  1. Can't imagine why you'd think that. (Would they be more a Musician Stage band?)

It's quite telling that we don't really have any idea about headliners, especially given the choices of the last couple of years - could be veterans, could be those caught on the way up. I've seen one very interesting band (one occasionally requested on here, in fact) who are in the UK around the SSW dates and currently list a day off on one of them, and there's a handful of well regarded American bands announcing festival dates in Europe around that weekend too, but as clues are on the way on Friday I'll save guesses and assumptions for another time.

  2. Wish list:

    Liars

    Warpaint

    Gonjasufi

    Gang of Four

    Beach House

    Girls

    The Twilight Sad

    Hypnotic Brass Ensemble

    Pulp

    Locrian

    Some decent hip-hop

    Decent lager

    Decent food

All the good stuff on one day

Don't care who the headliners are as long as they're cheap - haven't watched many in all the times I've been

    Unwishlist:

    Foster's

    Rickshaws

    Radio 1 autotune-type artists/Vickers/Lott/similar

    'Pop-rap'

Reformed bands who were pretty crap the first time round

  3. See other thread re. path to Rising Stage, size of comedy tent, information boards, etc.

Bars: I'm generally happy to bring my own beer but some better options in the bars would be good. I couldn't find any veggie-friendly beers in the outdoor bars, and only bottled Beck's indoors, which worked out at a rather expensive £6.70 a pint. (Better) vegan food options would also be nice - it's a pain having to traipse into town and miss bands.

  4. Favourite Act: Caribou, closely followed by The Fall. The Mercury didn't like The Fall, which is about as good a recommendation as you can get. The Besnard Lakes were also great.

Biggest let down: I caught some of Junip and thought they were pretty dull. Mumford & Sons' set was too quiet, with half the songs drowned out by the drunk 15 year olds behind me. Missing By The Rivers because I thought it was The Rivers that were playing.

Best find (band wise): Caribou (hadn't heard much of their stuff before - best drummer of the festival), Erland & the Carnival. Fionn Regan was a nice surprise too.

Best moment of SS'10? Seeing The Fall. Again. You can't have too much of The Fall.

The greater distance between stages worked well, but the path to the rising stage needs to be wider - several hundred people going both ways at the same time while those pointless rickshaws were trying to get down the same path was a bit crap - move the stalls back. And if you're going to book quality comedians like Milton Jones next year you'll need a bigger tent.

  5. miffed and added to fanfarlo site

'I have been self styled PR for you for the past two years and after 2 no shows at Leicester Summer Sundae your credibility has slumped-not even an acoustic token appearance before you jet off to Germany—-shame on you'

  6. Was anyone else a tad annoyed to discover the start time for Seasick Steve was wrong? (It stated 21.30 in the programme)

We got there at 9.20 to find him already onstage! Times are subject to change but it felt a bit harsh on people coming from other stages to discover they were missing a big part of the headliner's set...

Sorry to have a moan, everything else was great, but a 15 mins swing was enough for me to feel like I should mention it!

  7. Now everyone has had time to digest the line up.. what does everyone think..

i think it is great .. looking forard to Goldheart Assembly The Fall, Lissie, Low Anthem, The Futureheads, Steve Mason,.. even Diana Vickers to see what all the fuss is about!!

also Seasick Steve.. infact there is so much.. :P:P

    Rich

  8. Tinchy Stryder would be by no means my first choice for headliner but I can see the logic that he is likely to have more selling power than the go team at least. I've noticed however that he is on at the University of Leicester summer ball and he isn't even headliner for that! :P

That being said, i think the splits overall for the 3 days are pretty good, there are bands on each day which are worth seeing. Think the sunday in particular is very strong. Guess the proof will be in the pudding with how many tickets they shift this year.

  9. There was a hint in Rob's post that Mumford & Sons are Sunday's headliners or maybe it's the way I read it. I've already stated before that I think they're average and would liked to have seen a band with a bit more history and more songs people know headline rather than what could be a flash in the pan. However I am not debating they're not big enough to be in that slot and for all I know they could well end up being one of the performances of all time at SS. That's if they are headlining (or maybe I'll just watch futureheads!)
  10. Hmm, still no announcement of Sat/Sun headliners then, or did I miss it?

I could be wrong, but I suspect the formula for dealing with the perceived bugetary problems of recent years is to charge the same ticket price but spend less on the acts. Personally, I find the line-up this year to be disappointing, and I'm unlikely to go for the whole 3 days, but that's to some extent a reflection of my tastes and the organizers will ultimately be judged on whether they sell enough tickets this year, and whether people who do go are sufficiently impressed to want to go back the next year. If they do, fair enough.

Looking forward to the day-by-day breakdown and hoping that there are some other decent bands on whichever day The Fall are playing.
