I was lucky enough to snag a ticket in the resale on Sunday, and am now in obsessive planning mode and all round over excitement for my first Glastonbury in 10 years (hooray!).

It will be my 11th Glastonbury all told, so I feel like I know the set up pretty well, but after a decade away (young kids, ticket sale failures), there's probably quite a bit that's changed that might be worth knowing.  So, what should I know?

I assume that everywhere on site takes contactless payment, so less need to arrive with loads of cash??

Much as I'd love to be off grid for 5 days, I'll need to be reachable for parents doing childcare - are there still the odd charge points on site?

    Anything else worth knowing?

    Cheers!

Some smaller places prefer cash - or possibly are they still cash-only? Not 100% sure. I'd bring some,

  2. As I haven't got a Friday headliner, it looks likely I'll be delving into a genre I don't usually listen to. I typically never listen to dance, but maybe Jungle are gonna be my best bet. What albums or songs should I listen to, to know some of what they're likely to play? Plus, is it likely to be a live performance, or is it like a DJ set?

  3. Update on my journey discovering The National :

After enjoying Boxer, I've now been looping over High Violet. I prefer Boxer, but High Violet is still rather nice. I thought England was my favourite track, but that may be changing with more listens.

  4. While I wish I could say that the lineup is more important, the unfortunate truth is that the weather makes or breaks it for me. The mega muddy or hot years (2017 and 2019, was it?) were my worst years. 2022's dry and relatively cool was my best.

I went both nights too, two fantastic gigs. I was quite glad about the rain on the first night as it masked my tears when they did the Frightened Rabbit cover. Managed to hear a few songs I’d always wanted to hear them play over the two nights like Brainy, All the Wine and Green Gloves too.

Which Frightened Rabbit song did they play?

Yeah that was a little out of date, I've updated it now after all the new info we have. Taken The Smile out 😔

What have I missed? Are The Smile not likely?

So far Dua Lipa, Jungle and Gossip aren't a great set of headliners for me.

Need something for the chin-strokers on the Park or the Other stage saturday. The Smile on Park would've been perfect!

How do we know The Smile are not on The Park? I see you've returned them to Friday Woodsies on your clash finder?

  8. I'm happy to admit I really like some Coldplay stuff. Parachutes, Ghost Stories, some of Everyday Life. Yet some of their music I struggle with, particularly the latest album. I'm excited to see them again at Glastonbury, 2016 was amazing!

  9. As someone just getting in to The National (I love Boxer now, and am just moving into High Violet), I think the drummer really helps elevate these songs up a level. Dunno if thats common opinion.

I saw the first 30 mins of Elton then darted over just in time for the start of QOTSA. Seen them about 10 times and was by far my favourite time seeing them, best crowd I experienced all weekend and great energy for a festival closer. I like Elton but really didn't enjoy what I did see, felt a bit flat for me!

I did the opposite. After the phenomenal Alt-J set, I sprinted to catch the end of Elton. The atmosphere was dead on the edge of the crowd (though to be fair, maybe they were all non-Elton fans who had done the same as me! 😄 )

  11. During Elton, obviously it was packed, but the other stages were far from empty. Alt-J on The Park had a cracking crowd, it was one of my favourite Glastonbury experiences ever. And once they finished, I walked past The Other stage, and Queens Of The Stone Age looked bouncing too. Made me realise that seeing a band clash with a big headliner is a great way to get a brilliant crowd who are really into the artist.

  12. Is Olivia Rodrigo no longer being considered as headliner? (I only ask cos I'd heard of her name, but hadn't heard of SZA. Obviously I'm out of touch either way 😂).

Any reason why Olivia Rodrigo coming in moves Coldplay to Sunday? Maybe she can't do Sunday herself?

  14. I'm now checking out Olivia Rodrigo music for the first time ... it's reminding me a little of Holly Humberstone who I love! Is it all like this? This rumour may not be so bad for me!

Any recommendations for what National album(s) to start with, based on quality and what songs they're likely to play at Glastonbury, if they play?

In response to all who replied to my above message, I've been listening to Boxer. I like it (not super love it, but like it). My favourite songs are Slow Show and Ada.

I'll listen to High Violet soon. 🙂

  17. Dunno if this is a good example of what you want, but The Miniscule Of Sound, a nightclub that I reckon could have squeezed in about 8 people max (plus the DJ booth) was great fun.

Everiday Life is a rare recent joy too. But from MX era the band is so boring and so calculated

Agreed, I tried that recently and have been listening on repeat.
