I meant my statement about wishing I was at 2007 belonged in controversial.

I think I'm underestimated the weather impact.

Oh no, it was a bloody brilliant year. I wouldn't change being there in the slightest. Just the trenchfoot haha. It rained, without stopping, from like 9pm on the Thursday night until the day we left. Every so often there would be the tiniest break in the rain. For 10 minutes. You'd be like - ok we can do this. Then it rained again. Constantly. By Friday PM I was wearing a full waterproof bodysuit. Every morning you woke up, is it.... yes. It's raining. I can still feel the feeling in my feet as I put my wellies on when I think about it. Never had a Glastonbury before it or after it the same. So much has changed about drainage on the site I'd hope we won't.

Hmmm maybe I'm being naive then.

Or maybe that post belongs in the controversial opinions thread?

There is nothing less controversial that this. It would be more controversial to say Michael Eavis is a nice man. 2016 was a delight compared to 2007. The BBC ran an article shortly after about trench foot at the festival - something I remember due to getting trench foot. Won't be able to sleep now 😂

2000 was absolutely amazing, line up wise. Elliott Smith and Bowie stand out in my mind but I'm sure I saw a lot more that was brilliant. More people should be saying 2010 - by far my best Glastonbury for the atmosphere, the weather, the whole setup. It was sweet.

I would say 1995. That was the year I really knew Glastonbury existed and was absolutely agog about it. Surprised people aren't saying 1997. In my memory that was an absolutely epic year. That Radiohead set was world changing.

Left Field in it's new location doesn't have acts Thursday. The old location (approximately) has been taken by Williams Green which does and yeah as the biggest venue open tends to get packed.

It was Thursday, wandering over to see The Levellers (I think??) on Leftfield in 2007, after two glorious days of sunshine, that I uttered the immortal words, "you know, it could rain all weekend in from now and I'd still be happy".

I was not happy. 15 years. It's still brought up.

I used to take this approach too. I couldn't see the point of missing bands in the day in order to stay up dancing around to Queen at the wine bar with my mates. However, the night part of the festival has got so good now that I somewhat bizarrely take way more class As at the fest than I did 20-odd years ago.

I will hear nothing against the unbelievable night life of the festival, couldn't agree more. Spend your time there, see things, have fun THEN if you must see sunset from the stones, head up there in time. Sat on damp grass, nos going off every nanosecond? Not for me 😄

Well, the first 3 things I heard about him were 1. He whined about the pay at Glasto, 2. He broke his own pledge not to go back to Glasto just a few years later, and 3. He's popular in London. Ergo, prick.

Hard to argue with this 😄

From what I've heard, he's a bit of a prick.

That's a lot of research from not knowing who he was 6 hours ago. I suppose its a Bank Holiday 😄

I clicked on the blog expecting to eyeroll at it but tbh I thought it was even handed and fair. Seems a better deal has been found for this year!

I’ve also been berated for “not doing Glastonbury properly” when I dared to get a bit of shut eye on the Wednesday afternoon in the green futures field. A girl behind me said, loudly: “imagine coming to Glastonbury and just going to sleep”.

Imagine going to Glastonbury and shouting at somebody else for not doing Glastonbury in the way they think you should. Dickheads.

It's a week long, you have to sleep at some time!

  8. There's a certain hubris in telling the Head of Security of the most established festival in the world that they are wrong about drugs policy cause of your experience in a local Sainsbury's.

Really interesting insight into how the festival is approaching drugs management tho.

It's looking good! We're gonna eat at All The Vendors so no meal prep needed. Probably just gonna fill my backpack pockets with peperamis for those emergency snack moments, and then stop by your camp for some pizza... 😇

We have a food plan from Sunday - Weds, cause we're in early for working. After that ALL STALLS ALL THE TIME. But the workers deserve Pizza in those prep days, I say. I'll add eFests Pizza Party as another pro for the pizza oven.

I'll preface this by saying there are 7 of us, 3 of whom are flying in from America. So it's a whole three week affair with flights and car rentals and various family members to go visit.

I'm still fairly new to using Notion but I think I've done well. There are two databases, events and expenses, which can be linked together to keep track of costs.

The map uses the coords from the Google Maps link to plot our adventures on an interactive map.

I'm a little obsessed with it.... looool.

    OMG I LOVE THIS.

Ours is coming together - less expenses needed and more a long elaborate ploy to convince my travel buddy to buy a pizza oven currently...

Nonsense. It’s much better to be high on a lot of things other than life and chewing the ear off a new friend through to sunrise than it is to get a good night’s kip.

I take this as conceded freezing your tits off is unenjoyable 😄. I mean, the way i've written it, bring on 4am in 10 weeks time I say!!

If you're up for sunrise that's what 6/7am? What are you doing until music starts up again?

Surely waking up a few hours later then sunrise would give you more energy and you'd still have time for breakfast, walk around etc. Before the music starts at 11am, midday or whenever it is.

I told you it was controversial 😄

I love wandering round the site at 7am. It's so quiet, but theres still pockets of something going on. You can see almost everyone is taking a couple of hours sleep before watching the site wake up again. It's definitely worth trying at least once!

Set up a Notion area so we can start planning our trip. Tickets are paid up, flights are booked, now the fun part of actually mentally accepting it's happening this time.

omg please send a screenshot - am literally sat here setting up our notion when i read this during a break. The only thing more fun than a festival is planning for it...

See won't sanction or support a transfer of any type - your only options here are:
    a. Take the Wednesday coach
    b. Cancel the ticket and hope you can purchase a new one
    c. Miss the coach, make your own way to site, and hope that you can collect the ticket at the Gate A enquiries office.

Options A and B are the "official" line - but obviously Option B would be a substantial and unacceptable risk to take.

Option C goes against the published policy but has worked in at least the last 10 years - however it's never confirmed in advance so there's always a (small) risk that this year is the one something changes. The main disadvantage of doing it has been that tickets aren't available until after the coach has arrived and the driver has completed their admin work so you can never "beat the coach" - however in your case that doesn't matter so much.

If you're in Bristol and not travelling all the way there specifically for the coach, you could also get the coach, get your ticket and get sorted then leave the festival again, returning the next day. You can get a shuttle to Castle Cary, or head to Bath and West and navigate a way back.

  15. My most controversial take is its better to go to bed early, fall asleep to the blissful sound of late night festival, and get up for sunrise at the Stone Circle. Much much better than fighting sleep, freezing your tits off having your ear chewed off by a random new friend high on a lot of things other than life and trudging back to your tent to then wake up an hour later cause its too warm to sleep.

I held this opinion also at 18, I just lacked the confidence to live my truth 😄

University of Birmingham - formerly Birmingham Polytechnic in Perry Barr, Birmingham.

That's Birmingham City Uni - BCU. UoB has been around since 1900. They'd be ever so sniffy if they saw this 😄

No left luggage facilities at Castle Cary for a start… 😂

That sealed it for me! Can't see you making it to Castle Cary by 11 from the first train from Brussels or Paris either! I can't think of a former poly that offers PPE either... lovely story mind.

Done a few little jobs on my van - snagging and decor really.

We did the conversation ourselves but they’re a never-ending project really (in a good way)

Ours was converted for us but by now I think I've replaced everything and redone it all! Repainted our chalkboard bonnet and boot this weekend. Did a deep clean and washed all the fabrics. Going through the van tomorrow looking for any internal jobs, and touch wood (well MDF) that bit will be ready!.

i tried getting in my campervan and getting myself onto the bed properly (good enough for sleeping) and into the passenger seat thru the passenger door, both difficult with my limited mobility, but i did it.:)

Great news! They're awkward moves in the lithest of times. Confident a bit of festival spirit will spur you on even more come June.

I bought a reduced Rumpl blanket that I have been eyeing up for months because I absolutely need it as a priority, and am just making a playlist of announced bands ready for some clashfinder times in a few weeks.
