I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.  I'm still confident Spidey is back but there's probably no need to keep banging the drum, on either side, at the moment.

It would be pretty cool it if was both. Don't know how that works exactly from a crowd flow perspective, but having two focal points in the field would be interesting.

  2. So the "sources" who had information about the crane being removed last week didn't end up being right. We've also seen a few close up photos of all the crane parts which have been delivered onto the site.

Really struggling to reconcile the information from "sources" and my own eyes here.

Odd … I’ve heard from 2 sources it’s going … happy to say I’m likely wrong if I am though … has it been delivered ? Or removed from storage would be my only question ? Ready for collection

Would be pretty strange to leave it standing for 3 years, only to remove it right before the next festival.

If they have got away without removing it this long, I really don't understand why they would rush to remove it now. One final outing at least, since it survived this long already. It makes sense.

It would be disappointing it goes only to be replaced by the spider. I loved that spider, but it is a bit old hat now. It's nowhere near big enough for the field/crowd size. And there are some pretty big acts rumoured this year.

The spider is great if you are directly under it, but rubbish for everyone else who can't get close. The crane might not be as exciting, but it's a pretty large visual beacon that can be seen by everyone. And I'm sure they have had some time to learn lessons, and improve the show.

Is it, whereabouts? Was just having random thought about the crane, obviously they’ve covert the thing in green paint to try and make it blend in and sneak it past the council planners, but the cab is also completely covered and last time there was a guy in their doing the operation. Presumably they’ve strayed it with something that’s easy to remove, but that must be a ballache?

It's near all the containers around PGA. It's a bit difficult to make out on the webcam, it depends on the light conditions if it's easy to make out or not. I only realised it was the crane, because someone already pointed out earlier in the thread that's what it was, rather than because of my own supervision or anything.

  5. Yes, the jib part of the crane has been visible on the webcam for at least a week now, and was even pointed out in this thread when it was delivered. Yet the "it's being removed" rumours persisted.

Funny how a rumour can take hold, when the facts are staring you in the face on the webcam.

  6. The only reasons I can fathom that people are speculating the spider is coming back to replace the crane, must be one of the following:

    • Wishful thinking from the "spider was better" crowd
    • Insider knowledge

Because actually, in a "matter of fact" sense, the crane is still there. And it's less than 10 weeks until the festival. It's pretty well secured in location as things stand, with no evidence of works beginning on it's removal thus far.

It seems bizarre that after knowing about the planning issues with the crane all this time, they would leave it until right before the festival to start removing it. And then install the spider there instead.

Surely if it's been left up this long, the plan will be to give it one last outing, before removing it after the festival. That makes a hell of a lot more sense than rushing to remove it in the run up to the festival.

Of course, I guess perhaps there is some inside knowledge. If not, it seems like wishful thinking to me.

    The only sensible reply.

Different footwear is suited to different ground conditions. One isn't superior to the other.

  9. Pangea was a refreshing update from the Arcadia spider.

The spider was designed for a much smaller space. Sure, it was great if you could get yourself immediately under or nearby, but the crowd was often too large for most people to enjoy.

Pangea is a far larger scale spectacle, suited the size of the field/crowd it's in.

  11. I have to say, the "one way conveyor belt" in the SE corner really does kill the vibe for me a bit. I hope they can put some more mainstream friendly music on the IICON stage this year, which should help soak up some crowds, away from the other areas.

It's great when you find the right spot to dance, but it's no fun to just "explore" when it's busy.

  12. You can actually buy a plastic bottles which are purpose made for peeing in. It comes with a handle, and secure lid. They sell them in female and male shaped varieties, and are designed to be easy to hold on to while you go.

I have had one of these for years now. It lives in the small "porch" area of the tent during festivals, many tents don't have a groundsheet in this area. You can use it facing into your tent porch, away from your sleeping bag/clothes, etc. I can't imagine having to traipse off to the toilet in the middle of the night anymore.

talking of Brighton and great vegan eats, i really want to see them put a Bundobust down here- It's excellent indian street food, all veggie and probs about half vegan menu - a food and craft beer place with about twenty beers on tap at their Leeds and Manchester branches. Its such good food and so well put through as a concept, they do a 'one of everything on the menu' for about £70 and between six of us, it was an absolutely incredible feed. It totally satisfies any meaty people, as well.

Every now and again i tweet them and ask them to open up in Brighton, hopefully one of these days they'll do it just to shut me up 😆

Sounds great, get it down here!

Funny how all the Brightonians have congregated in the vegan thread. Typical.

Just realised that there's a What The Pitta in Brighton as well. Been to the one in Croydon Boxpark, definitely recommend the vegan gyros. Proper lovely. One of my workmates is what you'd class (and she classes) as a very traditional South African, very sceptical of any pretend meat, and even she admitted it was bloody lovely.

Yeah, What the Pitta is great. I find the portions to be unbelievably large, and so do I struggle with it a bit as someone who was brought up to "clear the plate", unless I have someone to share with.

  15. Amyl and the Sniffers are on the "Hella Mega Tour" in the UK on the Fri/Sat with Green Day, Weezer and Fall Out Boy, and they are already announced for Glastonbury as well.

Are another one of those bands able to make their way down to Worthy Farm as well? Maybe a bit of a stretch, but given that one band from that tour is able to make a Glastonbury stop off, it's not out of the realms of possibility.

I'll give them a look. Took my non-veggie mate to Halo Burger the other week and he was properly impressed, any other suggestions?

Trying to convince him to join me at the Hope for one of their dogs next...

I rate "Vegan Noms" operating in the Worlds End on London Road.

As well as the standard beyond meat/moving mountains style vegan burgers (they serve a "Big Mock"), they also have a "Crispy Coated Oyster Mushroom" burger as well a "Chick'n Royale with Cheeze".

"Gooder Kebab" operates a late night junk food style vegan takeaway. The kebabs and burgers are excellent. They are currently operating out of another vegan takeaway called "Really Happy Chicken", while there own shop is refitted.  They have a "Malaysian Burger", which is a beyond patty, peanut butter, chilli marmalade, and THIS isn't bacon. It's great.

I don't rate Really Happy Chicken as much, it is good, but the chicken seitan they make is too "heavy" for my preference and always leaves me feeling bloated afterwards.

You need to try the vegan kebabs at The Hope. I've been eating them since Beelzebab started out as a street food vendor. Superb food. They'd clean up at Glastonbury.

Again, a great choice. Really spoiled here in Brighton! Proper dirty junk food, definitely the one for after a couple of drinks.

oowee are coming to Brighton in the summer (they did have a pop up shop but don't think they do any more).

    https://ooweevegan.com/brighton/

Yeah, they had two locations here through most of the Pandemic lockdowns. They had a "delivery only" kitchen out in Hove, and also were running out of the kitchen at the Western Front pub in central Brighton.

Both are sadly gone now in preparation of them getting their own premise. Fortunately there is no shortage of other vegan burger takeaways in Brighton haha.

  18. I can't comment on accessibility features, but in terms of ease of "getting around" I would note the following. The festivals are actually far more similar in size than most people believe.

-Boomtown requires traversing a steep hill to get between the two halves of the festival. It is mostly possible to avoid large hills at Glastonbury, as there is very little towards the top of the hill.

-The distance between the two furthest stages at Boomtown is actually greater than at Glastonbury. Glastonbury has much more sprawl when you include campsites and car parks, but Boomtown has historically had it's main areas far more spread out than Glastonbury, with longer distances involved between areas. Glastonbury has much more "packed in" to it's central area, whereas Boomtown has hills and woodlands between main areas which create the large travelling distances.

-The area "inside the fence" at Glastonbury is about 10% bigger than Boomtown (based on 2019 layouts), so broadly they are actually comparable in size. But at Glastonbury there is less need to go to the outer fringes, at Boomtown there are often things to do near the outer perimeter. But Glastonbury has a habit of making you move around more due to the number of things to see/do, rather than strictly distance alone. So it's swings and roundabouts I guess.

I would say if you could manage Boomtown, you can manage Glastonbury. At least when it comes to to the physical endurance aspect, it's basically similar. As far as I know, both festivals cater very well to users with accessibility needs.
