To put it into perspective, here are the lineups from 2016, 2017 and 2018

My first FIB and also first foreign festival, ten years ago. Got a ticket for €70 or something like this (of course, showers, re-entrance and camping all were included). Kasabian on their peak, The Libs reunion... Inflation and all, but still...

Good memories, unfortunately, can't see our company coming back with their new marketing strategy.

The announcement seems to be as worse as the first wave of the 2017 lineup announcement. Back then Sziget came with these names: Bad Religion, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, DJ Shadow, GTA, GusGus, Kensington, Mac DeMarco, Major Lazer, Oh Wonder, Oliver Heldens, Tom Odell, Two Door Cinema Club, Vince Staples, W&W

Both were anniversary Sziget editions 😁

    TBH next waves saved it...

So The Strokes, Lana del Rey and Skrillex for the next announcement?

...so in theory they can save this anniversary too!

  3. Even looking back at 2022-2023 lineups, this is... I just don't know.

Headliner-wise it's probably a worst Sziget in a long time (at least for now). Martin Garrix is the only one which seems suitable - traditional EDM-headliner, and not the worst one. Stormzy is not a headliner material for such a huge festival outside of UK. Fred probably is a hot cake right now, but having two DJ headliners when festival only lasts for six days? No comments on Sam Smith, just don't want to discuss it.

Like them or not, but Imagine Dragons and Billie Eilish are huge artists, which should headline such festival. In 2022 they had two huge pop stars, one huge guitar-driven band and two just big enough. And just three editions before Twenty One Pilots played before Foo Fighters on the last festival day. Time...

They didn't have very big acts headliner-wise for their 25th anniversary edition, except P!nk and Kasabian:

IMO it was one of the best editions undercard-wise.
Something for everyone: indie-rock, punk-rock, alternative metal, hip hop, EDM...

    1. It is my impression that Sziget and Rock En Sien tend to share acts. Especially headliners. Do you share this impression?

This year they shared two headliners (Billie Eilish and Florence, who in the end didn't play Rock En Seine) and some undercard, four or five names maybe. Sziget nowadays is way more electronic and pop-oriented, so I can see they share Fred and Måneskin, but not Massive Attack or LCD Soundsystem.

Well, I guess the supply is quite weak for first part of June. I would say unusually weak. RaR/RiP and Download are prime examples. Novarock won a jackpot bringing all strong names together but some repeats are crazy...

TBH don't see much difference between RAR/RIP and Nova Rock. For me the trump card of Nova Rock is Jane's Addiction, and they'll probably clash with Green Day. BMTH played RAR/RIP last year, no reason to repeat so soon (although I wouldn't mind). Same with Sum 41. Other main differences are Avril and Alice Cooper, and that's probably all.

Then RAR/RIP have QOTSA and some interesting undercards like 311, L.S. Dunes. I would say both festivals have equally strong lineups and RFP as usual will try to take the best available from them.

IMO in the end Måneskin will be the third headliner as they have some connection with promoters (worked on Prague arena show and 2021 festival), fourth one is a pure guess, maybe Avenged Sevenfold, maybe The National (if The Offspring can why can't they), maybe even Fall Out Boy or Pantera from Download lineup...

Out of interest, in the search for female names, is Kylie Minogue a big enough name to headline? Or is she not particularly famous in mainland Europe?

    To headline A38 - sure.
Not an artist for Sziget's target audience, but her new album had some good reviews, so not impossible.

  8. The Offspring are hit or miss in terms of live shows, saw them several times, 2013-2018-2022. In 2018 Dexter was in a really bad form, both vocally and physically. 2022 show was way better, maybe it also won't be that bad next year. Still arguable headliner though.

My shortlist at the minute is Let It Roll, Sziget, Way Out West, Pukkelpop (again), Lowlands and Sun & Bass. Are there any others that I should be looking at / considering?

Cala Mijas / Kalorama have some good reviews on the forum.
Maybe Lollapalooza Berlin if its lineup is your thing.
Lowlands is awesome, but keep in mind that it normally sells out in an hour.

And a special 'hell, no' to Lana Del Rey who is one of the most boring live acts I've ever encountered (although I love her music, I barely lasted half her set before wandering off elsewhere).

Hit or miss, Sziget in 2018 was a snoozefest, while I enjoyed her show in Benicassim a year later.

Also Superbloom in Germany announced first names, shared Imagine Dragons, Sam Fender and Giant Rooks with Sziget this year.

Yes, on Firenze Rocks you have a PIT ticket. I went in 2022 to see Metallica and I paid PIT 97-98€ with commision, something like that, while regular standing was around 80€.

Check prices here, but next year it wil be probably more expensive

    https://www.musewiki.org/Florence_Visarno_Arena_2022_(gig)

Thanks! Funny thing is that 4-day pit ticket costed only €10 less than four day tickets separately 🙃
