  1. You would have paid your coach tickets in full in October.... The balance payment is only for the fest ticket. See tickets will deliver your coach tickets and pick up point / time details around April or May I think. No need to book the coach if you ordered a coach & ticket package. Tickets are handed out on the coach.

    • Fleetwood Mac - Greatest Hits (blues era stuff)
      Bluesy.
    • Booker T - Some sort of compilation.
      Groovy & scratchy
    • U2 - Unforgettable Fire.
      As expected.
    • ZZ Top - Fandango.
Side B is a thing of bluesy joy. Side A could be any of a whole host of bar bands
    • Guy Garvey - Courting The Squall
Love it, love it, love it.
    • Otis Redding - Otis Blue.
      Joyous.
    • Elbow - Seldom Seen Kid
Double vinyl (45 rpm) version which sounds twice as good as the old dodgy download version I have.
    • Ramones - Ramones. 1, 2, 3, 4sy!
    • Jesse Malin - Outsiders.
Excellent stuff from an old, under appreciated favourite of mine. Currently on tour and I can't go (sob)
    • St Paul & The Broken Bones - Half The City.
Another one I previously only owned on dodgy download but love so much I had to buy it on vinyl as pay back.

I listened to a bit of St Paul & The Broken Bones when they appeared as TBC last year (I hadn't previously heard of them) - but then they never played(?) Never got round to buying the album - I take it you strongly recommend it? Couple of their You Tube clips are excellent. Any idea why they were no shows at the festival?

One of the joys of being at a festival is that you can divorce yourself from the outside world.  So why not switch your phone off.  Maybe just put it on a couple of times a day to check all is OK at home or to fix a meet up with mates.  That way pretty well any battery will last the fest.

See both sides of this particular argument, but my views are probably best expressed by my user name.

  4. Foxes - All I need (going to see next month - Love to see at Glastonbury)

Van Morrison - His Band & Street Choir (Charity Shop, gap in collection)

Sia - This is Acting (Please, please play this year. You're heading to Europe anyway)

    Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers

Of Monsters & Men - Beneath the Skin (hoping will also play this year)

New Order - Music Complete (Anticipation of Other Stage Headlining)

Joe Strummer & the Mescaleros - Streetcore (Fab album)

Last Shadow Puppets - (tickets for Usher Hall, and on Glastonbury wish list - Preorder Everything You Come to Expect)

Acoustic Cafe - Compilation album, quite good

Joni Mitchell - Court & Spark (another charity shop gap in collection)

My first time was 2011 and my second time will be this year, and I am (on a daily basis) fricking on the ceiling with pure joy at the prospect of going. Here's my tuppence:

    1. First and foremost, read this: http://www.glastoearth.com/the-faq - it will answer 99% of your queries (and also tell you stuff you didn't realise you needed to know)
    2. The earlier you arrive, the better. Fact.
    3. Don't bother taking massive crates of beers/ciders, its soooo heavy and will turn into body temperature piss within hours. Spirits/red wine bags or buying booze onsite is the way to go.
    4. Prepare for torrential rain and scorching sun (both of which I experienced in 2011), so take sunglasses, suncream, hat and also waterproof trousers and a waterproof bag cover - no more soggy loo roll, water-logged phone/camera or unuseable Rizlas.
    5. If your limbs feel like they might fall off from exhaustation, take yourself to the Green Fields and get a massage for a tenner. It is the best money I spent all festival.
    6. Take ear plugs. I had the misfortune to camp next to some laughing gas afficionados, who liked to partake at 5 in the morning.
    7. Bring a chair or buy a chair. Have a sit down once in a while, your legs and feet will thank you. And take it home with you.
    8. Go off on your own. I went up to the Stone Circle on Saturday afternoon, sparked up a doob, and a nice young man came and shared it with me whilst we sat in the shade of a massive tree. Was nice to share in a complete stranger's feelings of euphoria. Felt like a dream.
    9. Put your phone away. Enjoy the moment. Your memory is the only camera you'll need. (And also, you won't have to stand in the 3 hour queue at EE to get your phone charged mid-festival!)
    10. I second taking an empty Lenor bottle
    11. I second taking lip balm (massively!!!)
    12. I second listening to Spotify playlists beforehand of everyone on the line-up.
    13. Girls: make friends with the She-Pee. In all, I must have saved at least 3 hours in queuing time by going straight to the She-Pee urinals. And it is the most surreal experience in the world thrusting your hips forward, and holding your cardboard phallus with your right hand, and then looking around to see 30 other women doing the very same thing.
    14. I didn't need to, but my pals swear by dropping a couple of Imodium at the start of the festival.
    15. Don't bother taking camping stoves, its just unneccessary bulk and the food onsite is delicious.
    16. Eat something healthy at least once a day (veggie stew, brown rice, some fruit). Come Sunday, all that smoking/drinking/eating will really take its toll on your insides (and your "excretions").
    17. If you're not having fun, go in search of the opposite experience (e.g. feeling too crowded, go somewhere more quiet. Feeling tired, go sleep.) even if it means going off alone. You'll resent your friends if you stay and don't enjoy it.
    18. Prepare to be amazed. I still maintain that Glastonbury has been the single best experience of my life. Its a spectacle, its inspiring, its Utopia, its a real feat of teamwork, imagination and creativity.
    19. Take the following Monday and Tuesday off work.
    20. DO NOT URINATE IN THE RIVERS!!! The water is monitored by the Environment Agency, and it is seriously bad for the riverlife if urine enters the water.

And props to the tips on here that I'll be taking away: hanging bag off hook in long drops, taking soap in a hand gel bottle, etc.

    Numbers 3, 9, 11, 18 & 20..... true dat.

  6. Here's my tuppence worth.... (many already listed)

    Walking Boots, not Wellies

    Compost loos, not long drops

    Lip Balm

    Sealskinz

    Baby wipes

If you can afford it (it's not unreasonable) buy drink there - saves a ton of weight, it's cold, you'll drink less, and you leave less trace.

Its a marathon, not a sprint.

Use Wed & Thu to get your bearings

Make friends (that bit is easy)

You'll experience some low points - it is very much a test of endurance at times - but the rewards are immeasurable

It is by far, the nicest, most relaxed, happiest, craziest and friendliest place I've ever been to in my lifetime. When I return home - I felt like I had left home. If that makes any sense at all.

Regret nothing. (There's a song there)

Try to be in the Stonebridge when I am the Resurrection plays.

Visit as many different stages as you can. Don't get hung up on The Pyramid too much - but as a first timer, make sure you see a few there.

Spend time in The Healing Fields.

You will make rookie mistakes. Laugh them off.

    More lip balm.

    Just let go.

    Be more Glastonbury.

    Return.

Take less stuff (except lip balm)

Don't drop litter or pee in the hedges.

Take everything home with you - Love the Farm, Leave no Trace.

    Have a blast.

    welcome...

while not a huge fan, my little boys liked the Monsters & Men album years back, and I saw their set in '13 and came away very impressed, a very pleasant afternoon session on the other, one of the top 6 or 7 sets or so that year i thought and i think they were getting a lot of mention on here too in the usual week-after 'best' lists. they're doing a lot of festivals this year it seems at least in the US, so i would say they're in for a chance again at Glastonbury

great thing about EFests is that to get a rumour there has to be some true substance behind it, a verifiable source, not just "likely" or "hopeful" because they're touring nearby & nearish the dates.

Thanks for reply tevaburger - I'll keep watching the rumours board in hope......

  8. OK - my first post, so be kind.... was a newbie last year, and am going again this year, taking my daughter. I think both Sia, and Of Monster & Men are touring this year, yet can't find mention of either on this thread - and neither are even rumoured on the A-Z.... is there any hope? There's not a whole load of acts we both really like...but both have a real penchant for the Peckish Peacock Vegan Curry, and chilling above the Park, so won't be at a loss.... ;)
