I had the incredible chance to find a job in the music industry in Montreal 2 weeks before lockdown back in march. I didn't work for two months then came back full time to the office on June 1st and didn't stop since. I am assistant coordinator for Constantinople, a very musical ensemble based in Montreal, whose artistic director is setar player Kiya Tabassian.
I know it's self promotion but I take pride to talk about Kiya. Not only he is a incredible human being, he is also a musical genius. Constantinople has released 19 albums and has performed more than 50 creations since 1998. It's also literally a geographical journey, with collaborations with traditional artists from numerous countries. I could post them all but I will limit myself with three of my favorites:
- Breathings. Inspired by sounds of nature. Among numerous performers, we notably have Tuvan throat singer Mongun-ool Ondar.
- Another one of my favorite is Under the Persian Musical Sky. A setar duo with his teacher Kayhan Kalhor. Fascinating how they dialogue.
- Last one, Crossings, a collaboration with Senegalese kora player Ablaye Cissoko.
I would love some feedback! :) thanks!

Did Primavera always have "non-attendance insurance"? It's 8e more expensive but I think a lot of people would take it.

My friends from Lebanon just released their first EP. French chanson/ rap
the first 3 songs are really accessible. I'd very much like an opinion of a non-speaker. and someone who is not biaised haha!

I really like this. I haven’t been able to find them on Spotify, though.
They are not on there yet. Probably along with the 2nd single, or the EP

Childish would headline Sziget though, and he would smash it!

Some friends saw him at Les Ardentes last year and said that he was a really fun act, so I'd take any thing in the same vein. (I'd love salut c'est cool but I have no idea how'd they fit though here haha !)
I'd take Salut C'est Cool anytime to close a tent stage! Saw them last year, craaaazy! But I guess not for everyone

Maybe it's the thing we needed for people to keep their mouth shut during the shows.

Great line-up, there are 15 acts I'd definitely see!

New Caribou record is top class. Delighted. One of my must see acts for sure.
I'll listen now!! I'm seeing him in less than a month, very excited!

Having a 7 days festival is a disadvantage line-up wise.
Having a lot of non-musical activities is a disadvantage line-up wise.
Being held in August is a disadvantage line-up wise.
a few of the reasons why Sziget doesn't have the artists that Werchter and Mad Cool have... but nobody who actually goes there comes back complaining! I'm sure there will be more gems added, including Main Stage, A38, Colosseum and Europe Stage.

It goes against the hint, but they might play at NOS and not MC?

Some history to change the mood, if you like Broken Social Scene: in a discussion with Wavelength Music Series artistic director (from Toronto), he recalls the very first time that BSS performed on stage 🙂
