While it's a good addition, I think you're probably right. A big issue here is that they can announce bands you like through the card and lower down, but if you aren't a fan of the actual main headliner that day or the smaller stage that still runs then you're leaving early and that heavily contributes to is the price worth it. Unless Bizkit were Saturday it wouldn't benefit me at all...but that's only me.

Looks like they're playing Margate on the Saturday

Hi all, long time lurker, first time poster. First time going to download, went on Thursday for the day after wanting to go for years and never having anyone liking the music enough to go. Went to reading 5/6 times between 2008 and 2014. Firstly I have to say the crowd/vibe At download was great - everyone enjoying themselves, looking after each other and no kids being stupid. Stages and arena seemed quite small for the number of people, but good number of bars and toilets. Wasn’t a fan of the urinals overflowing though!!!

Only major negative was the food - thought it was shockingly overpriced. Far more than any event I have ever been to before - £15 for a burrito and it was only really basic quality - the other vans near the burrito van at the back of the second stage seemed to be similar prices! Not sure if we were unlucky with where we were when hungry?

Hope you all enjoy the rest of your Weekend.

Been a really enjoyable weekend so far. One thing about the food I suppose is that overheads have gone up and vendors selling the same poor quality stuff but for a higher price. The paella place to the right of the second stage was decent quality.  One bonus is you can take in your own food if you want

  3. Below is a cut and paste from Mad Cool english speaking fans FB page. Seems to confirm new location but not sure if last sentence is from the reply from Mad Cool or the authors take.

After my mail regarding New Location and Hotels nearby I got this answer:

The location of the venue is in the Villaverde area, in Laguna Dalga street. As for the displacements/transportation, there are train and subway stops nearby, as well as several buses.
And as always we will have shuttles to the center of Madrid.
More detailed information will be published later.

I needed to add, that public transport doesn´t drive after the concerts and the organisations with the Taxis/ubers didn´t work either... I think, we´ll skip this year...

Probably you could know her as The Black Madonna (her previous stage name). You might like her if you listen to house music

Thanks. House music isn’t my thing so it’s fairly unlikely I’ll have come across her stuff

  5. Didn’t get much of a buzz from the announcement and to be honest, I haven’t heard of a lot of what’s been announced, particularly the smaller font bands. As an older attendee, it’s good to see younger folks on here buzzing for it. You people are the future of the festival, not the likes of me.

Do day tickets go on sale at the same time as the weekends? My head's telling me they go on slightly after but maybe I'm misremembering

Generally it’s a bit later. In fact it was 29 March this year before they went on sale

Machine Head have stated before that they feel great affinity for Metallica. They regularly do Metallica covers, in fact they opened their Scottish tour (and therefore their entire European tour) with a cover of Creeping Death. So if they are gonna play festivals next summer, and Metallica are doing two sets at Download, they are an obvious choice to sub one of them. And you've actually just pointed out that Trivium are doing the later fests - of which Bloodstock is one.

I'm going to see them tomorrow (MH) at the Lemon Tree in Aberdeen.  Still can't quite believe they're playing there.

Unpopular opinion: Arctic Monkeys were amazing the last time at Rock Werchter and the crowd was the one that sucked because they only wanted to hear Do I Wanna Know on repeat

I saw them at NoS a few weeks later and they were dire.  My son saw them at Leeds Festival last weekend and also thought they were pretty boring.  More suited to indoor venues these days.

The best festival I've ever been to (out of about a dozen including Werchter and Lollapalooza Chicago).

Special thanks also to all the Spanish people who attended. They proved to be very civilized and happy people. During the 4 days I didn't see any fights or misunderstandings whatsoever.

A few points to improve for next time: Fix cashless online top up which was unavailable after 1pm, announce transport info earlier and provide more wifi spots around the site.

    Agree with that. Lovely people

Sorry for the ramble here, but I’ve possible had one Mini Mahou too many and the sun Stoke is setting in, but…

For me, today stands up as one of the best days I’ve ever had in the whole of my time doing festivals for the last 10 years.

In total I managed to see Tom Grennan > Don Broco > The Struts > Gang Of Youths > Pixies > Kings of Leon > Editors > Royal Blood (not all full sets granted, eg, Pixies) and it was a brilliant mix of young bands hitting their prime and old school bands turning up and delivering.

Two key stand outs; Editors, one of my all time favourite bands just seeming to be very up for it and putting on a cracking show to sign off a tremendous weekend of live music. After 3 years of no festivals, this was absolutely what I was wanting from them.

Secondly, Gang of Youths; (at the risk of over sharing, sorry for anyone who finds this awkward) we lost my Mam back in March this year around the time that they released ‘angel in realtime.’ That album pulled me through some hard days, I don’t know how much people know about it but the lead singer wrote a lot of it about his own father passing. I resonated with it a lot and seeing some of those songs played live tonight in the sunset was just bliss. When you consider it’s been three years without festivals and live gigs for some of us, I think we all really needed this to deliver and it has for me.

If we were to go home tomorrow I’d still be calling this one of the best festivals I’ve ever been to. And there’s still a good few bands on tomorrow that we’ll get a lot out of.

I hope everyone has had an amazing festival and they got everything they needed from it. One thing I would say is that you focus on the good and take that with you when you’re stuck back behind that desk next week. We’ve had two horrific years to get through to get here. If Metallica rocked your world on Wednesday, focus on that. If the Boney M secret set in the disco tent last night was more your thing (yes, this genuinely happened) the tell everyone about how wonderful that was. I for one have my fingers crossed that Mad Cool have managed to get all of their ducks in a row ready for 2023. See you all there!

Great post. We had a brilliant time and it was fantastic being back watching loads of tremendous bands.  Music really does help you get through the more difficult times of life

Completely agree, with the sun setting and the atmosphere it all just synced up amazingly. They sounded so tight as well, probably the best I’ve ever seen them.

By contrast, Haim, who we were really excited for was one of the most cringey and underwhelming sets of the weekend. I don’t know if anyone seen it but the 5 minute “bit” Este done on the phone to ‘Federico’ that went nowhere was absolutely painful to watch.

Have to say I enjoyed Muse last night as well, haven’t really listened to them much since they started releasing albums about overthrowing dictators and robot soldiers but I forgot how good the songs off those first few albums are, especially live.

That Haim phone chat was a real cringe moment.  I have no idea what the purpose was but it failed miserably

Does anyone know how you can find out how much money you have spent / have left on your wristbands?

I’ve got some idea but did think that some of the prices I was being charged last night seemed incorrect

Log onto your account on the app and if it’s working correctly (it was earlier but not about 30mins ago) it shows individual transactions and balance. Any of top up points inside can give you balance
