  1. Finish work on the Tuesday, head home and try to sleep for a couple of hours (which is impossible). Load the car up around 9:30pm, meet everyone else in Glasgow around 10-ish and then cruise down the M74/M6/M5.
Depending on the amount of stops we have, we usually get into the car parks around 6ish and start queuing.
So long as everything goes smoothly at the gates, we can be in and set up by 10am, then sleep for a few hours (so long as its not scorching hot weather). We always feel pretty destroyed on the Wednesday, but its worth it once we've caught up on sleep!
  2. I stupidly entered the Great Scottish Run over the summer, without realising that the date clashed with Glastonbury tickets going on sale. Although I had 5 other mates trying to get tickets too, it only left me with a 45 min window to get tickets before I had to head into Glasgow for the start.
At 9:38 I got my first sniff of the booking form, by 9:42 I had 6 tickets in the bag and by 9:45 I was in the car heading to the start line. I don't think I've ever smiled as much during a half marathon (plus I smashed 7 mins of my PB... I'm putting that down to getting tickets!)
  3. Surely radio 1 big weekend will be at Bella?

I never even thought of that, but you're probably not far off after the London one to coincide with the Olympic Games and the Derry one to coincide with the City of Culture. Not sure if they'd go to Bella or Glasgow Green though (with it being easier to get to from the city centre, etc)?

  4. I don't think this event will take place again next year. I think the poor behaviour by some at Avicii will lead to the council not granting the license. Not to mention the amount of complaints neighbours have supposedly admitted.

That along with the Commenwealth Games taking place will probably screw any chance of gigs at Bella again next summer.

  5. I love how DF are claiming on Twitter that they have no stage times for tomorrow yet. They're promoting the bloody gigs but have no idea when it will start? I somehow doubt that.

Of course they have rough stage times, but thats the usual DF Concerts approach! They don't tell you at T so you'll buy their stage time guide and they don't tell you at gigs, so you'll turn up earlier and spend money at the bar.

  6. I'm down to run the Glasgow Half marathon at 11am on the first Sunday in October. I reckon that give me an hour to get tickets, before I have to head to the start line. I don't reckon there will be much point in trying beyond then, given how quickly they went last year.

I'm either going to be running the course with a huge smile on my face or stomping around really pissed off. Either way it should help me put in a decent time!

  7. Its a toss up between Block 9 (London Underground and NYC Downlow) and The Common (The Temple) for me. Its the first time I've proper embraced the after hours section and I think its one of the main reasons it was so hard to adjust to normality after the festival.
Friday/Saturday night was fun wandering around and exploring all the different nooks and crannies. If we noticed folk walking behind something, we followed and ended up in loads of tiny bars. However Sunday night was just phenomenal!!!
We randomly walked into The Temple of Sunday night to find Rudimental finishing up their set, followed by Sub Focus. I grabbed a quick video on my phone and it stands up to any clubbing scene from Blade, Human Traffic, 24hr Party People, etc. Watching it back instantly takes me back to a happy place regardless of what other stuff is happening in life.
We always seemed to end up in NYC Downlow until kicking out time. Some of the boys weren't too sure about it when they were in the queue, but after being told to leave any preconceptions at the front door, they were all dancing away without a care in the world.
I definitely want to spend more time in those areas next year, even if it means missing out a few bands.
  8. One of our cart wheels exploded with the combination of tyre pressure and heat from the sun on Wednesday afternoon. Rather than write it off, we went a walk down towards Gate A around Monday lunchtime, found an identical cart with a broken axel and recycled one of the wheels. Job done!
A one of the boys picked up a couple of small pop up tents that had been left (including the bags to pack them away in). That should keep his kids happy for playing in the garden over summer.
To be fair though, Hitchin Hill wasn't in too bad a state by the time we left around 3pm. Most people around us appear to have taken on board the Love the Farm message.
  9. hmmm .... given that every time I've been there's been people comatose on the ground by 12.15 on every day on every occasion, and that I've been one of the very first in via 'day entrance' each time (via the media entrance), and that these comatose people are people who have come from the campsite and so aren't on day tickets ....

Perhaps you should review the part of your idea that it's only those with little money that are responsible for this sort of thing...?

  10. That was the second time I've missed TITP in 17 years (as either a punter or working at it), but it was the first time I've not sat around at home wishing I was there. I'm partly putting that down to Glasto a couple of weeks ago and knowing that TITP could never match up that that experience. And partly down to the T4 in the Park style line up that they booked this year.
For all that TITP is a laugh with your mates, it can bring out the worst in Scottish culture. Folk use it as a 3 day bender and due to the whole campsite/arena setup, the Neds tend to get as hammered as possible before they go into the arena. The end result is by 3pm, you're stepping over folk who are lying comatosed, without a clue where they are.
The demographic has definitely shifted over the last 6 or 7 years. Call it a class thing if you want, but the biggest difference between Glasto and TITP is the availability of day tickets. In turn that lets the Neds save up their giro, buy their day ticket and get mad with it for the day. For the ones that don't end up comatosed, they'll think nothing of getting a little fighty for sh*ts and giggles!
The atmosphere has definitely got more fighty/stabby in the last 5-6 years.
I actually think the lineup this year was a conscious decision by Geoff Ellis to try and change the demographic again. I reckon the thinking behind it is, if they move it more towards the T4 on the Beach acts/crowd, they'll ditch the Neds in the process.
  11. T has suffered from sound bleed between the Main Stage/Radio1 Stage since they had to alter the arena layout a few years ago. There is an underground oil pipe line that always ran under the production area behind the old position of the King tuts tent. However the council Health and Safety dept got their knickers in a twist and insisted it was totally isolated.
As a result they've had to move pretty much every other stage/tent and slightly change the direction of the Main Stage. The end result is a lot of sound bleeding between the two biggest stages, but there isn't a lot they can do about it due to space constraints.
  12. Don't pay it!!! Its not the same as receiving a parking ticket from a traffic warden or council parking warden. The whole thing is one big shake down, with their business model based on enough people paying when they get the first letter.

Have a read through this forum and you'll see what I mean.

It takes balls to ignore the letters as the threats get more seriously. However, after three or four letter they just stop. I've had it happen 3 times now, all with the exact same result... i.e. nothing!

You're under no legal obligation to tell them who was driving your car at the time, so they won't pursue you via the courts.
