  1. Pretty disappointing lineup all round for me this year. There's a good few bands I'll happily watch but not one I'm particularly excited about.

Outbreak seem to have nicked a lot of the names I was hoping for (e.g. Basement, Touche Amore, TWIABP, Nothing etc.)

  2. I got a last minute code too, and managed to get through the queue but only 'platinum' charity tickets were left.

I was reluctantly willing to drop £400 to take the family, but not £900.

  3. I would have liked to have seen Aaron West in the Forest but it's Narrow Head for me at that time.

The only other decision for me on Thursday is between Skindred and ASIWYFA, but I'll see which way the wind takes me on the day.

Greg Puciato playing a festival in Europe late June... Download more likely but an outside hope of Trees.

    Yep, just added to Download.

I thought the same about Gaslight Anthem when I saw those US dates announced. A European festival run seems likely and they seem a good fit for a Trees headliner.

  5. Yep, not blown away, but I think enough there for me to get a ticket.

Hundred Reasons, Rival Schools, Wonder Years, Pitchshifter, ASIWYFA, Joyce Manor, Microwave, Big Spring, and I'm sure there will be more.

Anyone know when campervan tickets go on sale? With the next batch?

  6. Are there ever big queues for the lockups?

I'm camping up in the campervan field so it's a real trek (and waste of time) to go back during the day. I'm therefore thinking I'll make use of the lockups more this year.  I'll probably take my old Eastpak Pakr and carry it round during the day with a few beers etc, and drop it off at the lockup near Gate C when I've had enough of carrying it or I want to go into the crowd for a band.

Which one did you go for? I'm still tossing up between a mat and an airbed - I think I'd probably prefer the firmer mat but I kinda want to take a double and those seem bulky asf (or really expensive)

After deliberating for ages, I went for this one... https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/self-inflating-camping-mattress-comfort-65-cm-1-person/_/R-p-142436

It's pretty thin, but I reckon I'll still prefer it to an airbed.  I'm sure thicker ones would be better, but they get pretty expensive, even more so if you want a double.  This one is pretty small and light when packed away.

  8. I've spent the last week or two making lists, so thought I'd better start acting on it. Received a Decathlon order this morning including self inflating mat, welly insoles (won't need those), and lantern.

I also had an Amazon voucher burning a hole in my virtual pocket, so just ordered a sleep mask, rehydration tablets and a portable urinal (a pot to piss in).

Also got a bottle of Red Leg to decant at a later date.

A good amount of teenagers still love the gallaghers, Liam headlined Reading last year for instance.

I think a lot of that is down to how music is consumed these days. In 1998, unless your parents had Led Zeppelin records in the house, teenagers weren't listening to them. Anyone can listen to Oasis if they want these days, and have never really left the mainstream.

  10. This thread has certainly been interesting.

I am a drinker, but have cut down a lot in recent months - partly in an attempt to shift a couple of stone, and partly due to my wife's health meaning she has virtually stopped.

I had a boozy night out on Friday at a gig and the hangover just doesn't seem worth it any more. I'm going to Desertfest in Camden for a couple of days this weekend and I know that Saturday will be a struggle if I don't take it easy on Friday.

I'm certainly going to try and pace myself at Glasto this year, maybe not drinking in the daytime as much/at all, as I don't think I'll enjoy it otherwise.

I'm also looking forward to driving to 2000 Trees for a day in July with my daughter where I've already started planning what AF beers I'll be taking with me.  They've been something of a revolution for me, often enjoying them more than the boozy equivalent.  A good friend has stopped drinking since December, who came out on Friday whilst everyone else was drinking, and I quite enjoy sharing notes on the AF beers he's drinking.

  11. I'll have to go pretty old school, although my memory is failing me...

    1.       Biffy Clyro (2013) - I made the claim at the time that it was the best Reading headline set I'd ever seen and I'll stick to it.

    2.       Rage Against The Machine (2008) - great but I've seen them better elsewhere including 2000 but not headlining

    3.       Beastie Boys (1998) - my first weekend. Prodigy before them were probably better though.

    4.       Foo Fighters (2002)

    5.       Red Hot Chili Peppers (1999) - wouldn't go near them now, but just after Californication, I can still hear Scar Tissue being sung around the campsite.

    6.       Pearl Jam (2006)

    7.       Smashing Pumpkins (2007)

    8.       Metallica (1997) - my first day trip to Reading

  12. I think I'll probably be getting the train there on Thursday morning (although they seemed to have ditched most of the direct trains from Newbury and bumped the price grrr).

What's the deal with the shuttle bus?  How busy or long is the queue likely to be at 9am on Thursday?

  13. I arrived on an early coach on Thursday in 2015 in a similar position. Arrived with a veteran who showed me some of the sights whilst things were very quiet on the way to find our camp which the rest of our group had kindly set up. Turning up with a small rucksack on Thursday is great. You can get stuck straight in.

I'll be doing similar this year but general admission due to childcare related stuff.
