Thank you for that and I hope your friends treatment will give her more good quality time. Things have changed, so they tell me. I beleive they do pre erected on that campsite also so that might be worth looking into. Where you able to use the short cuts with her?  Its just not a side to the festival Im used to but it sounds like it could work if I can somehow get my extra two friends in with their tents and me and three friends in an erected. It might be something the6 would allow if theres such a big space. Youve been very helpful and thank you for not giving me a mouthfull😀😀

Thank you! And you're welcome, just thought it might be helpful to hear firsthand experience. I didn't see any pre-erected tents there but that doesn't meant there weren't any as I wasn't looking out for them. My partner and I literally only had access to the campsite and nothing else. I don't think she asked for access to the shortcuts but I'm not sure - she didn't use them anyway. She basically just got access to the campsite, shuttle bus, viewing platforms and toilets. But I think you basically tell them what you need and they make an assessment.

It was all new to me this year too (my 10th year but first experience of any of the access stuff). But you have plenty of time to look into it and I believe they are very helpful if you email them with questions.

I was eligible last year but was put off by someone telling me its so far out. When you say four people can come with you do you mean with their four tents? . I dnt know how I will be next year as its a quite rare case Im dealing with. This year I was very tired and the weather didnt help. The accessibility team were a godsend. I was disappointed with the toilets around site though. Even the people manning them said they hardly so any cleaners this year. My ideal situation would be WV without  the hill. I dont just want to stop going its been my annual break since Travis headlined in the wet 90’s.

I suppose it depends by what you mean by far out. As I say, it was right next door to Woodsies this year (I believe it used to be somewhere else though; it's Spring Ground now). We could walk three minutes one way and be in Woodsies and three minutes the other and be at back of Pyramid. It's not close to SE Corner/Park, though.

So my friend has stage four cancer so a lot of aspects of the festival would have been difficult for her (and still were to a degree, including access to accessible toilets around the site) but we really found it helped. She was allowed three other people camping with her. One was her PA/husband and the other two were me and my partner. We got given wristbands that allowed us into the field that we had to show to get in and out. No limit on tents and there is so much space in the field compared to the others (they have to keep pathways etc for wheelchairs) that I don't think it would matter if all four of you brought a tent. We could have fit loads more around us.

On top of that it felt very secure and chilled at night, like a little oasis of calm to come back to when my friend was struggling with the heat/crowds/walking. We really rated it. And of course it's at no extra cost, which is a big bonus.

We didn't drive but I believe if you do and you have access parking it's very close by.

  3. Haven't posted here in ages but wanted to offer my two cents as @angelin sounds like you maybe have accessibility needs. My friend applied for access camping this year and it was a lifesaver for her. Loads of space, you can get a shuttle bus from the gate to the campsite, there are clean toilets and showers etc. She was allowed to have three people with her so we all camped there. Right by Woodsies but honestly just a stone's throw from Pyramid too. I'd really recommend it. Not sure what your issues are and if you'd be eligible but it's worth applying and seeing if they can help. Had a great experience camping there this year.

Was Nish a new show? WIP? If so, how was it? Loved his last two.

Currently got a Twickets alert for James Acaster at the Lowry. Sold out before I could confirm I could do it.

Nish was a WIP but it felt pretty complete. There was one bit in it I'd seen before but otherwise felt like a fairly new onslaught of rage and indignation. Loved it. Perfect thing before all the coronation bullshit.

We didn't bother with Acaster as I think it's a version of the same show we saw at Mach last year but that was great (and I'm sure it's changed a lot).

Had an ace weekend at this - got to see a nice mix of big acts (Kumar, Acaster) and plenty of smaller ones. Certainly felt busier this year though!

Glad you had a good one! I don't really post here any more but got a notification from this thread so thought I'd chip in.

We packed in so much stuff and agree it was good to get mix of both big and small. Nish, Felicity Ward and Delightful Sausage were highlights but also loved Anna Mann and Jon Osborne.

We will be back next year for sure. Dealt with the camping better this time around as wasn't so cold but we are thinking of staying at a nearby caravan site.

Even if I tried to explain to you it would go over your head, but it’s fine I saw this coming anyway.

It’s a huge shame Neil that you continue to piss on something that used to be great by saying completely careless things.

Message to any efest users here:
If anyone continues to be disappointed by what they read by Neil and would like a much nicer platform to discuss festival news. Feel free to DM me.

Yeah I think this might be the last straw for me tbh. Such a shame, used to love this place.

First year I went 2014, was Coach. Then we drove until last year where we decided to get the train. As none of us really wanted to drive.

I'm in Essex and it was a mess. The shuttle bus to the station took ages, as did waiting for a train, so I couldn't pre booked a certain timeslot to save money. Then having to get on the tube with all your stuff and then my train from London to home got cancelled so was stuck at Liverpool Street for another 30 minutes. Left the festival site at 10am, got home around 4pm.

We're doing the coach this year, the drop off/pick up point is a 10 minute walk from my house. 15 minute wait in London, takes about 4 hours-5 hours and you don't have to worry about transfers. Wondering through tube stations and standing around at Liverpool Street hung over and tired.

Yeah this all the stuff I want to avoid. Getting the tube at rush hour on my way home that first year was one of the worst travel experiences I've ever had. What I love about the coach (especially from Victoria) is once you're on it you don't need to faff about with anything until you're at the festival. We will likely cab to the station as well.

It doesn't always have party acts headlining. Thom Yorke was booked for 2020....

(And also James Blake, Bobby Womack, Jon Hopkins, etc)

Hopkins felt like a party to me!

  9. Was looking for a thread about travel and this seems as good as any! We booked our National Express coaches yesterday having seen that a few were already sold out for the Wednesday. Not sure I've seen that happen so early before (although they may add more). Cost us over £100 each return to London - ouch. Glad to get it sorted, though.

I've got the train once, my first year, and I found the whole waiting for the shuttle bus bit a bit of a pain. When I'm carrying so much stuff I'd always opt for minimising the stages as much as possible. Hate a slow shuffling queue. Also what I like about the coach is that you're guaranteed a seat and somewhere to put your stuff whereas train felt more of a scramble. It's years since I got the train though so could be different now. This was 2008. I think Glastonbury did a combined festival and train ticket then?

From 2009 to 2013 I got a lift to Bath and West and shuttle from there. 2014 to 2019 has been coach all the way, either via See or National Express.

It can be kind of frustrating. Resigned to not going this year, i think. I certainly can't afford the £340 at the moment.

It's definitely a different kind of festival. I'm playing at IoW for the first time this year and that has very much been "how many tickets do you need, let us get you a ferry pass, do you need any half-price friends tickets?" Even at my very, very low level.

It's much more important to control space and number of people at Glasto, I suppose. But the difference between my IoW experience and the Glastonbury situation of some people needing to buy a ticket in order to play is remarkable.

Edit: to clarify that i'm not frustrated by not getting to go. i don't feel entitled to it in any way and have been lucky to be consistently offered them. the frustration is on behalf of bands/artists who just have no other way in but to pay, and the system whereby I just don't know if i'm going and will feel like i'm letting down multiple people if i don't.

Yeah I can understand that. I can't think kg anywhere else I've heard of where performers need to buy tickets.

I'm currently booked on 4 stages for this year. 3 of them have no more Performer's Passes to give. A Performer's pass lasts all weekend, which is nice! The 4th stage, the one that usually gives me the pass to get in is a) under new management beginning this year, and b) has had their pass allowance cut too.

If it turns out that they can't give me a pass this year, all 4 stages lose a performer! Stages at that smaller level rely on sharing artists. The only way I started reliably getting a pass each year was by playing on any stage that would have me during the years that I had already bought a ticket.

There is also a Friends and Family ticketing system, where people close to a performer can get a ticket if they are referred by the performer and the field that is giving the performer their pass. It's a guaranteed ticket, provided your application is accepted, but is full price. I know some bands who have 4 members but only got 2 Performer's Passes and needed to buy 2 Friends and Family tickets to play their shows.

I'm a solo act, which means my free ticket footprint is small. When I see some of the 7-piece bands that play in the Green Fields, i marvel that any of them managed to get in at all! You'll often find that the drummer of a band playing on Toad Hall is the person who runs the sound at Small World or something. One stage fills their schedule by having about 6 bands that each have the same members in slightly different configurations. Kind of like a house band.

Thanks for sharing. Kind of mad how difficult it is for smaller performers! Especially when you hear about other types of wristband where people seem to be able to get their friends in relatively easily.

But watch when its only 1 cause something happened. Then Emily is going to have to explain all of that in another interview on how she was outbid or plans changed with female artist X and then its like The 1975 cause they were just knocking about.

Emily expressing disappointment is one thing when the desired result didnt pan out, but then lashing out because you got the rug pulled out from under you is another thing altogether. Maybe she has just had it with the big promoters who clearly have more resources and such just taking some of the talent away and its hit this sort of breaking point.

    Where has she lashed out?

Hope Lizzo plays this on the Pyramid, it goes off and ushers in Rammstein getting the headliner nod in the next few years:

I refuse to believe Pulp won't be there until I get there and they don't turn up.

I feel for Emily. She blinked at GnR and Lizzo was round the corner. I hope this means Lizzo gets an extended set.

I said to my mate yesterday that I'm not giving up on the Pulp dream until Monday 26th June. I think there'll be there.

I do feel for Emily, but I don't think this fourth headliner business serves anyone really. Definitely hoping for an extended set for Lizzo, though.

Having to do this has made me realise that although I like a lot of the acts on the initial poster, I actually struggled to pick five real standouts and that it’s more a lot of pretty good acts I’d like to see rather than absolute must sees. Hoping more of those come with the full lineup.

Yeah I had the same feeling. I know that will definitely change but actually I'm quite glad that I have lots of things I'd like to see and nothing I'm going to be hugely stressed about missing. I'd like to take a more chilled approach this year! Won't happen once I get my clashfinder going...

  16. I'm very likely going to be there as I fucking love them and delighted to have them back. The autumn show at Brixton was incredible and it just feels right for Friday night. But I am going to need to see who else is headlining just in case it's Aphex or something.
