I think so too. @eFestivals could this happen? Seems to be more active than many of the festivals that have their own section. All Points East probably too.

Where you around in the old Titp forums? It was like the wild west and we weren't trusted to have a dedicated forum any more.

Think we don't have a trnsmt forum by association.

    Not even remotely true.

Let's look at the TITP 2011 lineup.

Below you'll see indie acts in green, rock in blue, pop in yellow and dance/electronic in red. This is just the acts who I can remember their genre of the top of my head. I'm ignoring the Slam Tent because it's own beast and has always been there regardless of wider trends in bookings.

    Indie: 34
    Rock: 24
    Pop: 18
    Dance: 8

At the time, the T bill was still full of "real bands", while responding to the growing demand from young people (aged 16-25, which was always T's demographic) for electronic acts. It had balance.

Interesting link. Seems so odd that they ended up going for Strathallan with was 12 out of 14?

The 1st choice sounds much more ideal, anyone know why they didn't go for that?

The list only shows sites within the area which may be suitable, it doesn't mean the land owners of those sites would be willing to allow the festival to be held on their land. If deals couldn't be agreed with land owners of the most preferable sites and/or Strathallan offered DF a better deal than other land owners then that might be why we find the festival at Strathallan as opposed to any of the more desirable locations.

    Likely:

Guetta/Alesso/Tiesto, The Killers, Coldplay, Kasabian, Florence... take your pick

    What titp needs:

    Radiohead/Gorillaz/Blur/Pulp/Foals/Muse/Tame Impala/KoL/Arcade Fire

Whether you like it or not most of those acts in the top line would get bigger crowds at T than most of the ones you claim TITP needs.

What TITP needs is diversity, mix your Tiesto in with your Arcade Fire and make sure there is something for everyone. They also need to stop the insane booking of having similar acts clashing with one another like Biffy clashing with the Pixies.

  5. I heard a while back, can't remember who from, that the real reason they moved away from Balado was because it was a prime location for fracking. I've absolutely no idea if this is true or not just thought I would mention it.

I don't really by the Health and Safety party line as to reason the festival was moved from Balado. The pipeline had been there long before the festival and was never a reason for moving. Definitely other reasons behind it I think.

Got in just before lunchtime on Friday and my band number is 36059. It may be slightly more than 30,000 but it's not far off it.

The number on the bands would only represent the campers. Add on day tickets and there will be many more.

If I was to take a stab at what I reckon the attendance was realistically I'd say

    Friday & Sunday: 50 - 55,000

    Saturday: 65 - 70,000

Obviously these figures are still very disappointing for the festival. The 'official' attendance last year was recorded as

    Friday 73,000

    Saturday 84,000

    Sunday 80,000

If the numbers from last year had dropped to as low as 30,000 that would be truly astonishing.

I read someone say they got told by a member of staff there that they averaged around 30,000 ticket sales for each day. Don't know if its true though.

I find 30,000 very hard to believe. No doubt it is down alot on previous years and I've heard from a friend that Friday and Sunday were the quietest he had ever seen T, he did mention Saturday was busy as well as the campsite.

If it was down as much as 30,000 the fest might not even have went ahead such would the losses that DF would make.

He has already said The 1975 are headlining it though. It looks all over the place to me at the minute. These potential EDM names confuse things even more. Saturday night is a total cock up for me. The 1975 and Travis would have accepted a lower position. Then if you look at the Friday and Sunday and see the possibility that Disclosure, Faithless, Chase & Status might be playing in daylight, it just doesn't make sense to me. I just can't get my head around the thought of Tiesto in King Tuts. How big will Calvin's crowd be on Saturday? Pretty massive, and surely 75% of them would be more interested in Tiesto than RHCP and LCD.

Calvin's crowd will be huge. Whether people like it or not he will have the biggest crowd of the weekend, it's why he is continually booked to play.

If the headliners do end up being...

    • Stone Roses//INSERT RADIO 1 POP-EDM HEADLINER//Jamie XX
    • Calvin Harris//The 1975//Travis
    • Chillis//LCD Soundsytem//New Order

It seems like they'll have got their audience split very wrong. Chillis/LCD/NO & then Calvin/The 1975 will both be competing for the same crowd.

Also Saturday in general looks dreadfully weak

1975 will get absolutely nothing up against calvin harris and travis

Yeah man Chem bros will be that other radio on....... I give up.

At least that's positively ruled me going out Saturday because those headliners are absolutely shocking

The only thing the will make me buy a ticket would be the chemical brothers

  11. Show proof of them being right in the past.

I'm not searching through thousands of threads to find instances on when he was right just to please you haha.

I'm just passing it on I'm not saying it's true. He claims that his friend is working with muse on their world tour and the itinerary has Glastonbury Saturday night on it.

You don't need to believe it I just thought it may be of interest.

  12. This was taken from another forum, non music related (football actually), from a source who is almost 100% spot on when it comes to gigs etc. He says muse are heading the Saturday night. Make of it what you will.

  13. Doesn't matter who they book, strathallan is shite sound turned down,**** all to do after 12,titp is a 2nd rate festival at best now.

Have a look at other festivals with entertainment in the camp sites and the main arenas to go along with the music, what has titp got a ******* hike to get in to see a band with zip entertainment it's actually a joke how bad they've fallen behind other festivals now.

Don't get me started on the ******* fairground.

I can't believe they got rid of the afterburner. Was the best thing to happen to the campsite.

  14. that of course would be dependent on there being another better site available to them.

Which, it seems likely, there wasn't when they decided to use this new site.

And a new site would have all of the same new learning curve, starting from zero - and so there'd be a decent chance of similar cock-ups to this year.

If it was all as easy as you make it sound they'd already be doing it.

Of course new sites would have the same learning curve but this site is simply not up to it. It's fundamentally flawed in so many areas such as size, infrastructure, topography, and those fucking birds.

There are too many constraints with the site and I think DF has put the biggest one of all on itself with its insistence to hold the festival in the Perth and Kinross region. I understand why they do it due to its central location between the major population centres but Scotland has got plenty of space around the country where I'm sure they could hold a festival, and hold it within reach of some more appropriate infrastructure.

  15. Ignoring the lack of park and ride facilities, they are quite different audiences however.

One of the reasons I can possibly see is that it would be DF's expense to hire and put on all the shuttle buses from the P&R sites to the venue and I don't think thats a cost they fancy baring.

Yup, I think DF would sooner move site than do park and rides.
