  1. The monopolies are a massive barrier, but event the left leaning media (such as the Guardian) or the outlets providing the chance for opposition voices seemed to just say "we don't like this" without providing an alternative.

I would suggest (based on a hunch, nothing more) that the govt have positioned themselves so that if any of the big newspapers turn on them, they'll feed their rivals... At a time where every newspaper is in fear of falling circulation, they toe the line.

I'm also stumped by the psychology - if you come up with any theories I'm all ears!

  2. You have to admire the way they're getting away with it.

Elected on language of being the party of 'working people' and 'aspiration'... Executing a budget that gives to the working masses with one hand, and takes away twice as much with the other.

Tax breaks for the highest earners (corporation tax cut = bigger profits = greater share to those with the most investments and inheritance tax cuts blatantly aimed at the rich). Cuts to the aspirational that could use help - especially poor-background students.

Even things like the rise in Insurance Premium Tax will hit the poorest, as it is a higher proportion of their outgpings.

AND it is swallowed up, thanks to the mass media who are desperate to curry favour to help them stay afloat.

It is a fantastic example of doing one thing, and selling a different story, which is being accepted as the truth.

I'm not sure if the lack of opposition is because Labour are going through a leadership campaign, are struggling to get their voices heard, or if they aren't fighting hard enough. I certainly haven't seen anyone really calling out the government on their decisions, and certainly not a viable alternative.

Why not give businesses a corporation tax break IF they sign up to a real living wage?

Why not means test inheritance tax based on the wealth of the person receiving the gift?

Why no increase in minimum wage for u25s to help 'aspiration'??

Simple answers, none of the above help make mid-high income earners happier, and therefore put the 'in it for myself' vote at risk.

The Tories have been sly and clever with this budget, but the real frustration is the lack of voices challenging them.

  3. Mr Benthusiastic,

It was a pleasure to meet and camp with you, and share a couple of bands (centre of the stage, 15 rows back).

Such a great advert for intoxication in (at most) moderationmoderation - your mileage was off the chart.

I hope we have a repeat chance in 12 months time!

    I bloody love Hot Chip.

  4. I also thought the crowds this year were better than previous visits.

As Neil said, I recall a couple of occasions where the crowd moved in such a way that you were pretty much lifted off your feet and moving through a crowd swell - particularly when the ground is bad.

Waiting, and taking less obvious routes can help. We moved from JPT to Cabaret through the post-Kanye exodus, but took the long way round.

I will say that after a couple of visits to Shangri La, I have no desire to be part of that crowd - I know there's some great stuff there, but it's too packed for me.

  5. I'm relatively ambivalent about chairs...

    BUT

Leaving them sat empty when they fold away so easily is a real bug bear. I only clattered into one this year - I probably got tutted at, but my conscience is clear.

The Springsteen year I was wiped out by about 10 left in a line in the pitch black...

  6. I was in one of the Leftfield debates, and a chap came in late on and started shouting some anti-left rubbish, heckling the speakers but without any real comment (and declined his chance to take the mic when offered), came across as a Right-wing loud mouth...

Yesterday I saw the same lad shoving his way through a urinal queue, and when I got in there he was going up against the fence rather than the urinal.

Not sure he really got the Glastonbury ethos.

Oh, AND he dropped & left his empties in Leftfield for somwone else to clear up.

  7. I thought it was clear that Glastonbury employs Chemtrails to control the event.

The Chemtrails industry has a direct dotted line to the RAND Corporation which, in turn, is controlled by the Illuminati.

Any coincidence that The word Chemtrails shares a number of letters with Illuminati!?!

The Pyramid stage and 'V' at the centre of the Eavis name confirms their attachment to Illuminati (ever wonder why JayZ, Beyonce and Kanye get booked over Rammstein??) And, by clear association, Chemtrails.

And, just check out the opener and headliner on Other Stage on Sunday..

    CHEMical broTheRs

    rIvAl Sons.

(Minor letter rearrangement to throw truth finding software off the scent)

WE'RE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS HERE, PEOPLE.
