  1. We always leave Monday afternoon. I recommend anyone who can afford the time to do the same. By staying till the end and seeing it through to the finish, it somehow helps deal with the fact it is all over for another year. There's plenty of food stalls open to keep you going too.

  2. I saw a girl struggling at Gate B with a granny trolley which had all but lost one wheel. She was trying desperately (with one hand and the other was loaded up too) to keep it running on its one good wheel. The wheel inevitably sheered off and some helpful person went chasing after her with it and tucked it under her arm (the only spare place she had). Not sure she was that pleased to see the wheel to be honest with you.

  3. Hi Leggins

First off, if you're on your todd, and you want to meet up for a pint, that'd be great. There's a few of us, bit we're pretty friendly.

So, the things I like about it are:

the site, beautiful place for a festival, amazing landscape and backdrop to a festival

facilities. Clean toilets, all weekend. Showers. I've been going to festivals for a long time, and it's the only one I ever have a shower at.

the size of it. It strikes a great balance between things to do, but small enough you can get to see pretty much everything you want to.

It's just got a really nice relaxed feel to it, very comfortable, very laid back. There's not that Glastonbury feeling of being overwhelmed by it all and paralysed by choice.

We've only been going for 4 or 5 years, but it's right there as a regular fixture on the calendar.

I think there's a facebook group for solo campers there. But I'm sure it won't be a problem. Everyone is very friendly, and polite.

Hit me up with a pm if I can help with anything else

Thanks very much for that Mardy. Appreciate that a lot.

  4. No map available but very simple, based on 2014 site layout:

On arrival at main 'wristband exchange' (basically a big gazebo) you are immediately in the Family camping field

For general camping you walk down and then up a hill, about 150 metres in total to the main campground entrance, a gap between two fields

At this point you can either turn left otwards the main (Woods) stage and camp there, or go right/forward away from the stage to one of the quieter areas.

Wherever you camp though is always close to the action - no epic treks a la Glastonbury etc.

It's a wonderful setting full of nice people, enjoy.

PS the path from car park to camping used to be fairly treacherous, they used a temporary hardcore that was too coarse a grade - probably great as the sub-structure of a motorway, absolutely terrible to walk on and not at all sympathetic to trolleys. This was MUCH improved for 2014, so hopefully same this year.

Car park is a really short walk to camp site, so many people make a couple of trips rather than trying to struggle on site with everything in one hit.

That's really helpful. Thanks for the reply.

  5. I speak for a few others too I reckon when I say I went to watch the football in 2010. It was my first Glastonbury and thats my excuse for such a piss poor decision. Walked miles across the site to a field out by the Dance Village only to be directed to another field (out by gate C) as that one was full. No water, no sun cream, no hat. 2010 sun beating down on me as if personnally punishing me for what I had done.

  6. End of the Road is great, but pretty much the exact opposite of Glastonbury. Not in any way comparable. I do love it mind, and at the moment, I do both. If I had to choose, I reckon, gulp, EOTR might just edge it.

Hi Mardy. I'm heading to EOTR for the first time this year. It will also be my first ever solo festival. I've only ever been to Glastonbury(5) and Bestival(once) before. Could you tell me what you like about EOTR and what differences to Glastonbury I should expect? Is it a good festival to fly solo at?

    Cheers.

  7. I encountered a chap outside the Bar opposite Williams Green on the Thursday? Who was obviously tripping badly. He was looking very worried and confused. He was on his own and dressed only in shots and TShirt. It was about 2am. I didn't want to leave him without checking he was ok so I went up to him and asked him if he needed any help. Unfortunately that was the worst thong I could have done because he thought I was Satan. He was petrified of me and was cowering behind people and signs and benches and anything he could find to get me out of sight. I had to leave him because I was making it worse but I did let security know so they could keep an eye on him.
