Monster Magnet was left wanting more short set.

Metallica in 03, funny how everyone at download that year will say they saw them
-
I've been to every Download so seen a tonne of bands there, but best has to be seeing Tool in 2006 for the first time, they are my fave band and have been since around 2003 so it was really awesome!
Other than that there has been so many good bands and good performances! Machine Head in particular stick out, for 2004 and 2007, and Metallica in both 2003 (in the tent!) and 2006 was very special!
-
Seems odd that they are playing so late when they have said that they will be in Britain in February. Are these Finnish shows indoors?
-
So it's Metallica for friday or saturday then...
http://viihde.mtv3.fi/uutiset/musiikki.sht...29612?metallica
Roughly translated as: Metallica playing Finland on 14th and 15th June.
Download is the Friday 12th to Sunday 14th June.

<insert popular emosih band here>
<'' ''>
<'' ''>
Saturday
Rammstein
Marilyn Manson
Trivium
Lacuna Coil
Sunday
Metallica
Slipknot
Machine Head
Lamb Of God
Arch Enemy

Anyways thats probably miles off!

Smashing Pumpking/Nine Inch Nails last year was very good, as was Iron Maiden/Marilyn Manson back in 2005 and Metallica/System Of A Down in 2003. Pearl Jam/Placebo in 2006 would have been very good as well if Placebo hadn't of had those technical issues, but billing wise yes!
This year Metallica/Tenacious D worked well, and RATM/QOTSA would have if QOTSA hadn't have turned a bit rubbish since Nick Oliveri left.
-
what happened to this band thats already been signed for a £2m fee or did i just dream reading that? that could be AC/DC saying that it could also be trivium with the way download throws good money at bad bands

Rob Zombie, 2009 Dark Revelation potential album.

Nine Inch Nails do headliner festivals, both in Europe and the United States.
Slipknot have been healdining the Rockstar Mayhem tour in the US, and with 4 albums and big tours I think it's reached the time for them to move up to headliner, or if not then at least 2nd billing.
Rammstein hasn't happened before because Download's not fitted in their schedule. They've only toured the UK one year that Download has been going, and did their own tour (1 in Feb and then 1 in the summer) and as their doing a new album the timing should work out right this time round. Hopefully!
I don't really want the Smashing Pumpkins either as they were pretty poor in febuary.

I just don't see what kind of calibre of bands Download will be able to book. The event is now confirmed for the 12-14th at Donington Park happening in the same arena as last year. There were supposedly 46k campers last year and that arena seemed pretty full to me. THe amount of day tickets they sold was negligible, even for the Kiss day it was less than 5k. How many more people could you realistically have got in that mainstage? On that logic, even if they got 55k campers in I don't think they'll have the budget to book 3 huge headliners.
There were plenty of big names around this year but Download didn't get them. You say there's clearly a lot more bands touring next year, who?
There's talk of turning the mainstage round to face the other way but I've seen nothing concrete about this. I'd like to think Download was going to book some huge bands but I've seen nothing that makes me think it'll happen.
-
They'll be no huge headliners in 09, same as 08.
Expect one reasonably big band then two who would barely fill your local Apollo.
-
I'm doing Slipknot/Machine Head/Children Of Bodom at Cardiff 5th december.
Today just got tickets for...
London After Midnight (London, 25th october)
and
Lamb Of God/Dimmu Borgiour (Bristol, 11th febuary 2009)

Why not have Trivium headline one night, depending on the reception of Shogun I think they could be absolutely massive. I have a feeling Metallica won't play download until 2010 when they finish the touring cycle for Death Magnetice I think they might headline to give the album a send off before they take a break and start the next record.
Also I think AC/DC or Aerosmith will be the "Monsters of Rock" band for one night depending who Reading/Leeds get and the other headliner I'm not too sure on...Maybe Rammstein or Tool...or Green Day! That would be a nice balance:
AC/DC or Aerosmith...Green Day...Trivium
-
Gotta agree, don't think Deftones would headline either.
Plus Glassjaw that high up? Coheed And Cambria again? Avenged Sevenfold after the amount they've pissed off UK promoters? Muse who are on a 'break'? Weezer who wanted to do Reading this year so will most likely do it next? Can't really see that line up happening....
-
It will keep to the same structure though. One old "legend" band. One crowd pleaser. One band you thought were too small to headline a festival but are headlining Download
-
Lostprophets, Madina Lake, Jimmy Eat World...
They'll book them if there is no one else avaliable, Fall Out Boy were playing this year but pulled before getting announced anyway.
-
christ, if all the above played that would be the festival of the year!
-
Ok, now we know there will be a Download 2009 and because we are bored lets get a list of bands that we think will play, listing actual evidence/reasons for them.
And no, don't just list headliners of wild guesses! You have other threads for that
I'll get the ball rolling.....
Rammstein - New album being worked on, festival organisers talk of 'big band that hasn't played before', have been asked every year
Machine Head - Say they are touring all next year, mentioned 'summer festivals' http://www.metalhammer.co.uk/news/article/?id=48911
Nine Inch Nails - Touring new album with kinda new line up, doing America this year so likely to do Europe next year. On downside Trent not fond of festivals.
Metallica - obvious reasons
Slipknot - obvious reasons, though may do Reading/Leeds to make up for no show
Mariyn Manson - Working on new album so will likely tour it, have Twiggy back in the band etc
Arch Enemy - Touring new album, played 3 times before but not this year
Devildriver - Have basically said they want to play whenever they are allowed! Due a main stage after big sucess in the tent
Lacuna Coil - new album due before then
Lamb Of God - new album due before then
Added since:
Ashes Divide - New band from APC guitarist/songwriter Billy Howerdel, touring loads in US at moment
Deathstars - new album
Trivium - New album
-
I'd be happy with Metallica again, they kicked ass in 2006 and again at Reading on sunday just gone, i've seen 'em 5 times now and i'd happily see them more.
If they want the so called 120k people the they will need big headliners that will sell tickets... Prob something along the lines ofFriday = Muse
Saturday = Green day
Sunday = Old school band (i want AC/DC but i've been wanting them since 03) so no doubt Maiden/Metallica/ozzy?
Something along those lines unless bookings go tits up again.
-
Rammstein are very big (for a metal band)...kinda band that would draw people from abroad as well as the UK (as they only seem to tour selected places)...plus they have very wide appeal...aka lots of people would want to see them at a festival even if they wouldn't normally buy their cd's.
As for Metallica....yeah I expect they will be there!
Oh and as for this 120k thing...you can't just base it on headliners, the suporting bill and headliners on other stages would be a major factor as well....
-
The band annoucement of Trivium, Bullet and Prodigy .

I would have thought that any sniffer dogs would be there to look for the hard drugs that could endanger someone slife (e.g herois or what not), rather than just weed. I mean c'mon, every person would get busted if it were for weed....

Ok then Im going to HMV on Monday and have decided to buy some Pj albums ( no one say im not open to new things ). So what 3 PJ albums should I opt for. I dont want the greatest hits as thats the easy option, but I want the three most obscure, different PJ albums - in other words the three at completely different ends of the scale, to show all the different sides of the band.
Oh yeah and what material are the albums made of? are they all cardboard like the greatest hits, and are the sleevenotes good?
definitely no metallica for download?

Where the hell did that rumour come from?
My intial thoughts are that maybe it will be a big one day 'Metallica-fest' like Green Day and the Foo Fighters have done at places before.
