Shoreditch Festival 2005


Throughout two weeks in August, parks, gardens, streets, historical buildings and extraordinary venues will open up to showcase the work of contemporary artists, performers and entertainers across Shoreditch and Hoxton.

Events include workshops for 11-21 year olds in visual and performing arts plus International Youth Day: Live Online! on 12th - 13th August all day in Hoxton Hall, Hoxton Street; Apples and Snakes Get Poeticized featuring rappers, MCs and poets; The Big Chill in Hoxton Gardens on 13th August from 11am - 4pm (free), with street entertainers and dancers, food demonstrations, visual arts, live performances, face painting, tai chi, boxing demos, DJing and juggling from Circus Space; the Bash Street Theatre in Frankenstein; a Big Read; and a Summer Sunday at the Geffrye Museum with activities for all ages from noon until 5pm on the 14th.

There will also be a forum for debate and discussion on 17th August at the Mother Bar in Old Street; The Clod Ensemble in Silver Swan on 18th August at St John’s Church, Pitfield St; the Tony Kofi Quartet at the Premises Studios, 209 Hackney Rd; and an Africa 05 day at Haggerston Park on 21st August with performances from the JJC and 419 Squad, Koko Kanyinda and Soukous Koumbele, plus poetry, food, workshops and stalls.
