Manchester International Festival - Music Series 2009


Manchester International Festival takes place at venues all over the city and draws on the city's role in music, with the programme usually focusing particularly on new music. The festival also has concerts premiered during the event by established and emerging international musicians.

The festival programme for 2009 so far includes:
Laurie Anderson and Lou Reed, Music from Kraftwerk with composer Steve Reich, the Massachusetts based Young@Heart Chorus, De La Soul, Same Teens with Mystery Jets, Amadou & Mariam and The Beating Wing Orchestra, The Durutti Column, BBC Philharmonic with Carlos Acosta, Antony and the Johnsons, Elbow and The Hallé, Tim Burgess (DJ Set), Delphic, Karima Francis, The Beep Seals, Run Toto Run, Marina Abramović, and It Felt Like a Kiss with Punchdrunk, Adam Curtis, and Damon Albarn.

plus a play composed by Rufus Wainwright called Prima Donna showing on selected dates at the Palace Theatre.
A series of nine concerts, by three internationally acclaimed musicians – pianist Piotr Anderszewski, cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras and violinist Alina Ibragimova who will perform Bach's solo instrumental works. with creations showcased by Zaha Hadid Architects.
There's also a very special night out at the bingo running throughout the festival at the Royal Exchange Theatre.

Many of the Festival's productions and events often premiere in the city before touring to other international destinations, such as Paris, New York and Berlin.
