Manchester International Festival takes place at venues all over the city and draws on the city's role in music, with the programme usually focusing particularly on new music. The festival also has concerts premiered during the event by established and emerging international musicians. The festival runs from Thursday 4th until Sunday 21st July 2013.

Line-up

The xx, The Felonious Monks (Mike Hall and Deborah Rogers), Massive Attack vs film maker Adam Curtis, Neneh Cherry, RocketNumberNine, Jamal Edwards, SB.TV, Goldfrapp, Mogwai, Rob da Bank, M O N E Y, Delphic, Dave Haslam, James Murphy, 2ManyDJs, Martha Argerich, Gábor Takács-Nagy, Manchester Camerata, BBC Philharmonic, Abida Parveen, Romeo Castellucci, Teodor Currentzis and the Perm Opera.

A concert in celebration of the life and music of composer Steve Martland on Sunday 14 July at 9pm, in the Festival's Pavilion Theatre.

Actor Kenneth Branagh has also been announced and will perform and direct Macbeth, and the festival will also include The Biospheric Project an examination into how to create sustainable food supplies for an age of rising populations and growing urbanisation. An old industrial building in Salford will be converted to be part farm, part laboratory, and part research centre filled with experiments in sustainable food, technology and design.

Plus Inne Goris' 'Once Upon a Story', Josie Rourke will direct 'The Machine' by Matt Charman, Maxine Peake will perform in Sarah Frankcom's interpretation of Shelley's 'The Masque of Anarchy', plus Peter Sellars' production of 'Michelangelo Sonnets' performed by Eric Owens and Cameron Carpenter, Willem Dafoe shares a stage with Mikhail Baryshnikov in 'The Old Woman', Matthew Barney presents excerpts from his new film 'River of Fundament'made in collaboration with composer Jonathan Bepler.

Plus artists Tino Sehgal, Hans Ulrich Obrist, Asad Raza, Alex Poots, Tracey Emin, John Baldessari, Sarah Lucas, and Richard Wentworth.

Many of the Festival's productions and events often premiere in the city before touring to other international destinations, such as Paris, New York and Berlin.

Ticket prices vary depending upon event. £12 tickets are available for every show for Greater Manchester residents on a lower wage, available on a first come first served honesty basis. To buy tickets, click here.

This event does not have camping but there are a number of hotels, hostels and guest houses in the area.
