  1. Someone's already mentioned taking a collapsible water carrier, also take a collapsible kitchen sink Great for having a strip wash in the tent rather than queueing for the showers.

My top tip though is Dry Bags. Get a small brightly coloured one for keys, ipod, money, etc, and then check it in the Lock Up, not only does it stop everything inside it getting damp, if you get a brightly coloured one then it's easy to point to (small bags usually end up on the top shelves). Bigger dry bags for clothes.

Oh, another tip, camping towels, anti bacterial so they don't stink after a few days, small and light, and dries quickly.

One final one, if you plan on carrying a rucksack rather than using a trolley, then load it all up a few weeks before. Go up and down some stairs a few times, and if you think "f**k me that's heavy" then it will probably kill you on the walk in from the car parks. Unpack, see what you can leave behind, and repeat. If it is still too heavy, buy a trolley!

  2. And the best change from my perspective is this --> "Do not bring Chinese sky lanterns. They may look pretty, but they are banned from site as they litter the country side, have caused fatalities amongst cattle and fires when they land still alight"

Not only because of the environmental impact, but because one landed on a mates tent last year. Luckily it was Sunday night and we were knackered so were close by and were able to get it off before it cause damage.

  3. Cheers DVJJ - The Jerk Chicken stall in the market is fantastic :) Good idea about contacting the festival, I'll do that.

And thanks StoneCircle - Just had a look at their website and they look really good. Tea and toast in the morning - nice!

  4. did anybody go to the thai food stall just up from the cider bus on the way towards leftfield tower??? on the left.... think it may have won some award from the festival the previous year,.....

green curry spring rolls noodles rice and crackers..... ruddy lovely!

  5. Resurrecting this thread to see if anyone's got any fresh food ideas. I was diagnosed Coeliac last year, after Glasto, and am still adjusting to the change in lifestyle. On the plus side it will mean more cider and far fewer and more pleasant trips to the long drops, but the downside is the wonderful pizzas at the green fields, noodles, roo burgers, bacon butties, crumpets etc are all out.

Le Grande Bouffe is looking good and tasty, I'm hoping that jerk chicken seasoning is GF (anyone know if it's usually safe?), but I'm at a bit of a loss about breakfasts... Anyone got any suggestions (already thinking about taking some GF bread for the first couple of days)?

  6. Loved the veggie pizza place at the entrance to the green fields, but without a doubt the food I'm looking forward to the most is the jerk chicken place that is somewhere between the Chill n Charge and the meeting point... White tent, you know the one, near a crossroads, and a bar, definitely opposite a bar.

  7. I'm having a tent dilemma. Took my Vango Omega 350 last year, great tent and huge amount of space for little old me -->

But it weighs 5kg, and that walk in from the East car parks last year nearly killed me.

The other tent is one that I use for 1-2 night wild camps, a Wild Country Aspect 2 -->

Only weighs 2kg and packs small enough to fit inside my backpack.

Will probably take the small and light, but what if it rains!?! Gah!!!

  8. Hmmm, yeah, I suppose - I just find it incongruous to spend that amount of money, a quite obscene amount of money, to go to Glastonbury.

That said, I only got a ticket by the skin of my teeth this year, in fact a mate got mine as I never got through... if I hadn't I might have considered a cheaper MyHab type setup as a route to a hospitality ticket, but would still want to camp with my mates - Top Webbs Ash last year, fancy Row Mead if I can get there early enough this year :)

  9. Firstly - You're gonna have the time of your life!

Biggest tip I'd give is pack everything a month or so in advance. Pick it all up, put your pack on, and (assuming you have em) walk down the stairs and back up again. If you think "f**k me that's heavy" then you will really suffer when it comes to the walk to and from the car park to site. If you want or need to bring loads of stuff then think about a really robust sack barrow (B&Q - ones with inflatable wheels best). Depending on when you arrive you could be carrying all of this for a good hour, and as it is a dairy farm the ground isn't that even so even with a sack barrow / truck it can be hard work.

Try not to take too much "just in case", you'll probably be out and about most of the time. Clean socks, underwear, and T every day make you feel good, something fleecy for the evening, and something waterproof. And a daily trip to the tent spa (aka a wet wipe bath) will see you right for the day.

Combat shorts / trousers for carrying odds and sods and reducing trips back to the tent.

Get a wallet with a chain or failing that loop of cord / big zip and then use a carabiner to attach to the belt loops on your combats.

Lucozade powder stick and a resolve, followed by a good cup of coffee is a great start to the day. Lucozade glucose tabs as a bit of a boost whist out and about (keep em dry tho, store in a ziplock in your tent).

Dry bags are essential for keeping your clothes un-moist. Even a hot year like 2010 is damp in the morning.

Unless you are on a medical diet (and even those can quite often be catered for), or you particularly want to cook, only bring snacks... there's food from every corner of the world there.

If you're a drinker, spirits have a good weight to drunk ratio! Mixers (coke / lemonade etc) are easily bought on site. If you're a smoker, unless you aren't fussy about what you smoke then bring them with you. Last year on site prices were around £7 for 20.

And (nearly) finally, the toilets aren't half as bad as people make out. Even the portaloo style were OK despite the sun last year. All were cleaned regularly. The Long Drops were quite pleasant, use a wet wipe over the seat... just don't look down! If you are of a sensitive disposition you could always chuck a dab of tiger balm under your nose (but then be very careful where you stick your fingers).

And (really) finally, whatever you take in, plan to carry it out again - Love the farm, leave no trace :)

  10. Stand out album for 2010 IMHO:

    1) Jónsi - Go... Stunning. Saw the Go show 4 times, didn't get bored with the stage from 59 Productions (of War Horse fame), look on YouTube for Grow Till Tall and Kolniður, just goose-bumpingly brilliant. I think it is the multi-dimensional layering of the music, combined with the album telling a story when played live, that does it for me - just love it

And then I guess in some kind of order:

    2) Plan B - Defamation Of Strickland Banks... Talented geezer, love the soulful vibe, looking forward to seeing him in March (even at the O2 - Meh!)

    3) Gorillaz - Plastic Beach... I think I was one of the few who loved their set last year, prob 'cos I'd managed to get close to stage, this pic sums up the feeling for me

    4) British Sea Power - Zeus... OK, more of an EP than an album but Valhalla Dancehall wasn't released until January (I reckon that'll be my #1 this year). Brilliant live, roll on Feb 27th at the Forum

    5) Pet Shop Boys - Pandemonium... The album probably would have passed me by if it wasn't for their Other Stage set, and then seeing it again at the Big Noise Sessions just before Christmas. This is the album I play if I want to feel the Glasto 2010 emotion again (know what I mean?)

    6) Marina & The Diamonds - The Family Jewels... Great pair of lungs on this gal, chuffed to have seen her at some teeny venues before she started getting famous

    7) Vampire Weekend - Contra... Fantastic album, gutted I missed them last year - how I don't know, must have been drinking zoider

8)Kylie Minogue - Aphrodite... Camp cheesy pop from the pop princess herself, I will be shaking my stuff in April at the O2

    9) Two Door Cinema Club - Tourist History... Really like the album, they put on a good show at the Queens Head too

    10) Tunng - And Then We Saw Land... Great folksy sound, another band I'm gutted to have missed, but Sunday morning I seemed to have the absolute muvver of all hangovers
