  1. Yes no queues.  Only really busy for the headliners/later bands but still plenty of room at both stages.

Never queued for more than a couple of minutes at the bar either....though whether that was down to it being well staffed or low quality I am not sure

@ciderbus did you go in the end?

We went for the first time this year and it was brilliant.  Slightly poorly attended throughout the day though which was a bit embarrassing for some bands I imagine but did seem to pick up for the later bands and headliners.

Do agree with the vibe that there seemed to be some people there just because it was an adult weekend, and not because they like the bands, but we're going to go back next year.

@rpfranks Yes cheers. Had a great weekend and definitely going back. Weirdly a few stags and hens on the first night that I never really noticed again.

I'd agree about the daytime. We watched more bands than we missed but still had time for swimming, crazy golf and a sit on the beach!

Highlights for me....Suede, Blanck Mass, Clinic, Bill Ryder-Jones, Cats Eyes with honourable mentions for St Etienne, Kagoule and Killing Joke.

  3. Right. Finally just about stopped sulking.

Been to all but a couple since 1980something. 14 of us trying on sunday and not a sniff.

I thought it was luck when we were getting them and guess its luck now that we haven't.

Still, maybe just time for someone else to get some that haven't been before or missed out in the past.

Will be nervous for the resale but still hope to be there. If not will be festivaling elsewhere.

Has it ever happened with a headline band where the whole set hasn't been shown? I know The Stones had the first 4 songs or so chopped but I struggle to believe Glastonbury would let someone do that with the whole set.

Leonard Cohen....although he was on in the afternoon he was headliner in my mind.

I'm thinking I need to get a Nick Cave CD for the car as I'm seriously missing something here - where do I start though?

Hi. I know its a bit obvious but there was a Best Of released years back that is still widely available.

He has done plenty of great stuff since but that is a useful primer as has some of the lovely, emotional and also rackety stuff on there.

I loved it how when it got to 7 in the evening there was no act of sneaking. It became every man and his dog virtually taking crates in.

Where was that? It was hardly super strict V style but I saw loads of people being refused entry with booze.  Especially if it was obvious.

I'd say that some of the people that you find on these weekends genuinely don't know what sort of bands are playing - the majority of these will be staying on the caravan site and will be taking advantage of whatever entertainment happens to be happening on site that weekend.

Cheers both. Sounds interesting. I like the idea of people stumbling across The Membranes or Joana Gruesome by mistake :D

  8. Not sure. Seemed like they might have overstretched at times, stewards didn't know where anything was, shortage of clean toilets unless you paid extra for the privelege and some really crowded moments. Seemed lots further from parking to camping too.

But- I really liked the single arena set up, the food stalls had increased and improved significantly, it was mostly friendly and I saw a stack of excellent bands.  Particular highlights were discovering new stuff like cabbage, white room and queen kwong, and sets from deap vally, eagulls and a big Peter Hook singalong.

Hi can we just camp where we like if going early entry ? Wanna try get in rock n roll camping X

    Yes you'll be fine.

Bit of a reference to the campsites and other info from the local paper.

The Clashfinder site have updated their times today too. I fond this a bit easier than the planner on the YNot site myself.

  10. Really?  No-one?   I thought this would be getting a bit of love given the mix of old and new bands on offer.

Suede, Saint Etienne, Killing Joke, We are Scientists, Kagoule, Wire, Wedding Present, Lee Scratch Perry, Luna, Cats Eyes, Eagulls, Jah Wobble, Membranes, Bill Ryder-Jones, Blanck Mass, Jane Weaver, Damo Suzuki, yuck, Joanna Gruesome, Clinic, Gang, Man made, TVAM, Multibird, FEWS, Desert Mountain Tribe, Black Honey, Eliza Shaddad,

A full day of Suede stuff and a full day of Killing Joke stuff also available.

I’m intrigued by the film “Where you’re meant to be” with Aidan Moffat live.

Chris Geddes and don Letts DJ sets.

And there is still plenty more time for announcements.

I'm not involved in this by the way, just loking ahead. Would be interested to know if it is as good as it looks.

Did ATP at Butlins so hoping this is similar atmosphere, if not music.

Going on last year, the allotment and main stage are in the same field so you can be listening to a band on the main stage then turn round and go into the tent. From the allotment to the giant squid its roughly 2 minutes and from the Allotment to the quarry its about 5-10 depending on how many beers you've had.

Looks like allotment moved to make way for VIP area and wall of death! Still not more than a couple of minutes away though,

I've been impressed by the lack of sound leaking between stages so hopefully that will continue.

    Have a great weekend all.

So, are there different entrances like towards different stages? Any tips for sneaking cans in? Obviously if you don't want to tip off the security DM me haha.

Hi it looks like the layout has changed a fair bit. The arenas were split by a path with only one way into the main arena.

Looks like three now so will be interesting to see the set up.

I tend to go with layers for clothes, can always take a layer off if you too warm, wouldn't go with big jumpers etc, couple of fleecies and remove as you get warm.  something Warm to kip in too, Kendal got really nippy at night.  Waterproofs, ponchos or a good coat.

Agreed. Y Not is proper countryside so it can get a bit chilly late on. Bring a warming spirit but not in glass:)

Does anyone know if there will be much in the way of decent camping spots left just after 1pm on Friday, that's about the earliest I can get there? Cheers!

As you'll have gathered it is a bit unknown because of a bigger crowd. However last year Thursday was just for the early birds and most people arrived on the Friday. I wasn't looking but never noticed anyone looking like they were struggling too much to find somewhere to pitch. Its not a glastonbury style rush. The first couple of bands on Friday lunchtime didnt have huge crowds as most people were still arriving/setting up.

Hi Alland can u take your own booze in arena?

Officially not. Last time they seemed a bit less concerned about people having their own booze around the other stages but were checking more as you went into the main arena.

Is it possible to buy camping chairs on site?  If so how much do they cost, roughly?

From memory there was definitely at least one camping stall last year, maybe two.

No idea of prices I'm afraid.

I'm not far way and driving. If you are desperate let me know your price range/limit and I'll try to pick one up for you and bring it along. Not many great shops near me though but could definitely get something that would last the weekend.

Would have to arrange beforehand though as the phone reception there is non existent. Otherwise...its been dry for two whole days so you could always sit on the floor.:)

Recommendations for the Allotment stage, anyone?

    http://www.efestivals.co.uk/news/16/160718a.shtml

I definitely want to see Black Honey and Asylums, who I haven't seen before; and The Vryll Society, who I have seen a couple of times and would strongly recommend.  Also having just got back from Latitude and seen Broken Witt Rebels there, I now need to make sure I'm at Y Not early on the Thursday to kick the music off with them at 13:30.

Black Honey definitely worth a watch.

You have me intrigued about Broken Witt Rebels. I know that it should be all about the music but I am instantly turned off a band being "broken" as a PR/branding experiment.

Interesting to hear they are good. If I get there early enough I shall try and leave my prejudice at the gate!
