On FB now!! Didn't realise how weak the lower main stage lineup is until now.

Hi Guys, just to clear up a few things, if you arrive before dinnertime on friday there will still be plenty of camping space in all the areas. Obviously the noisy people tend to camp right at the arena enterance and it gets quieter as you go further back. We normally camp in the quiet camping (just to the left as you come down the hill on entering the site) and have been quite suprised by how quiet it is. If you dont want kids waking you up early doors I would suggest to not go too far towards the back as families will instinctively want to get away from the areana enterance. Obviously this all depends on if the layout is the same as previous years. I would say in general the camping areas are more spacious at KC than other festivals but that's just my opinion.

Bump. Worrying news :
Gandhi`s flip flop were not in their usual spot at T in the Park.........
I reckon they are based down the Lakes. Any locals have any news on them ? Are they still in Operation ? If not, are we all round to Lochlands for a ruby ?

I still haven't finished paying, think I have 1 more on the 12th.

I agree that there seemed to be a lot more of the younger crowd last year. I'm guessing like emandjay says it has a lot to do with the lineup, although I also get the feeling the youngsters around Cumbria use it as a cheap alternative to going abroad.
Personally I think the likes of v and Leeds have priced themselves out of the market with ticket prices. ATM a lot of people don't have a spare 500 quid plus for a weekend in a tent.
As far as kc is concerned I understand that the current cap is 20k and I think I also heard that we are currently only at around 15k which seems about right. I do worry that an extra couple of thousand could shift the balance between younger and older festival goers and we could end up with a mini v festival, which wouldn't appeal to me at all. Although all of this is purely speculation on my part.
I guess my point is the why fix what isn't broken.

Bump...
Don't know if jacko is around anymore but thought it might be fun to bring back the weather thread for another year.
Cumbrian weather is being as unpredictable as ever over the last few days, going from 20+ degree blue skies yesterday (my poor white, northern body is now a rosy red) to torrential rain/flooding today. Hopefully we can get the heavy rain out of the way early this year and kc will be awash with glorious Cumbrian sunshine.

With festival attendance figures dropping throughout the uk can anyone suggest why kc is bucking the trend. I know kc is a great festival, imo one of the best around, however it seems to be attracting more and more newbys where bigger festivals (Glastonbury excluded) seem to be failing. Also with tickets selling out in record time is anyone else worried the capacity for next year will again increase and the friendly, local feel of kc will be lost amongst corporate mediocrity. Just wanted to start a bit of discussion really as I'm bored of seeing the same old topics on here.

Paper tickets were available from selected shops so he could have bought some locally, I'd always ask for proof before payment tho, it's easy to send a pic these days.

Think it's a real mixed bag of indie and dance this year. Looking forward to it!

Anybody heard from Jacko?? Is he coming this year?? Wondered if he saw the lovely weather we had this weekend as being a good or bad sign??
-
Easy star allstars are touring the uk the same time as kc, playing reading on the Friday night but free on Saturday and Sunday. They would make a nice addition to the main stage in the afternoon.
-
If the Mondays aren't subbing on the main stage then that leaves a sub still to announce. I'm with you on embrace ram. Would be a good addition. Chvrches would have been good but I think they are on tour in America. Could see someone like reverend and the makers being added pretty cheaply. Madness would be good for a sing-a-long.

In case you haven't heard of augustines

I think for sheer energy and enthusiasm example could be a good booking. His songs are catchy and will please the younger generation but theres enough entertainment value to keep the older ones watching from afar. I saw him at creamfields 2 years ago and he drew a big crowd even though it was a rainy mid afternoon slot. The problem I have with the curent line-up is that there's no act that particularly thrills/excites me. Suede didnt really do it for me even when they were big and I can't see frank turner bashing out a set to remember but like a lot of others i'll be scouting the smaller areas for more interesting stuff.

Might not be a bad shout. Just checked and he is playing festivals the weekend before Kendal and the weekend after.
Don't think he'd sub though. Maybe 4th on the bill? (3rd at a push?).

Went to watch Disclosure last week and thought they were really good, nice chilled out dance. I would love to see them at KC but they seem to be in a stange phase of their career where they aren't big enough to headline but they seem to be too big to do anything else. Obviously the teens would love to see them as I was about the oldest guy there (I'm 30 btw) but I dont think they have enough mainstream material to keep the older ones attention. Any thoughts?

Suppose he could play a similar slot and set as Johnny marr last year, plenty of doves stuff plus a bit of his new. Think that'd go down a storm, not that I'm saying he's as good as Johnny marr! I always preferred doves stuff to elbow too but wonder if elbow headline he would sub?
-
Not new music but whatever happened to Doves?? A cracking back catalogue and some good "recent" stuff but never seem to be on at festivals. I remember seeing them supporting Oasis at the Ethiad and they were brilliant. I would say an ideal band for KC on a sunny saturday afternoon/evening.

Im expecting to see a big dance act looking at past years. Think the indie headliner has been taken up with Suede. I recon Fat Boy Slim, Chemical Brothers, Chase and Status someone like that.

We've missed out on getting the emperor field tickets and assuming we don't get any today, how bad is the standard camping? Are we talking T in the park bad or nothing like that?

Big Brothers watching!

I'd be well up for a bit of that. Annie Mac to sub anyone? That'd be a great start to the fest IMO.
-
Can anyone remember when the headliners got announced last year? I've got early Feb in my head but i'm not sure if it was a bit earlier last year?? January?? If we get some headliners it might give us a clue as to what level they are aiming for this year i.e. aiming for the stars or scraping the gutters!

I don't know about Alan but in Germany they shout Helga. The story is that a German couple were attending a festival and Helga went back to the tent "for a nap". When her bloke came back he couldn't find her so wandered around the campsite shouting her name. Apparently he ended up spotting her falling out of a strangers tent half naked and chased her around the site shouting obscenities. I'm sure that's just a urban legend though.
