very surprised Chvrches haven't been to Kendal yet, although I think the last 2 years they've been touring America. I see Foals have come on leaps and bounds in the last 6 months, I can see them getting a headline spot if they carry on their ascent into next year. Either that or sub to someone like Noel Gallagher? Dance-wise would love to see Disclosure and/or Rudimental but can't see it happening as Disclosure will have a residency in Ibiza and Rudimental don't seem to venture north very often.

One possible solution is to pay people for their rubbish. At Rock Am Ring they dish out recycling bag (plastic, glass, general etc) then pay you in beer tokens if you manage to fill them and hand them in a designated areas..

This will be my first Kendal Calling, always fancied going but never got around to getting tickets. There are 8 of us coming, in 4 different tents and we'll be arriving Friday morning. Any advice as to what would be a good or bad time to arrive? And which field might be best for us to get camped relatively near together? Quiet(ish) camping would be preferable.
I've been to Glastonbury a fair few times and always arrive early on the first day so it'll be strange arriving at a festival that's already underway!
Thanks in advance
Hi, personally I normally turn up between 9-10.30 on friday and have walked straight in. One year I turned up around dinnertime (think it was about 12-12.30) and it was absolutely mobbed and took us nearly 2 hrs to get it. I would suggest either aim to get in early or come later on (it tends to get quiet again after 3ish).
I can only speak for the last few years but I can't see you having a problem camping together in quiet camping no matter what time you arrive. main camping tends to get busy by tea time friday but from what I saw quiet camping was; well, quiet, all weekend.

I've taken a gazebo for the last 5 years without a problem. I think the only issue would be if they are tight for space and said gazebo is taking a space that could fit a tent in it. As long as you aren't taking the pee space-wise I'm sure you'll be fine. Like Ram says you'd have to be pretty unlucky for security to ask to take yours down when there are another 50+ dotted about all round you.

There's no way I'm digging my own latrine.it's a prison camp?
I guess that's a new take on festivals, anyway.

Ive noticed that over the last year or 2 there has been a mini invasion of teenagers, however there's still a good mix of ages throughout. I'm in my 30's and tend to stay out of the camping by the arena enterance as it's full of kids that cant handle their drink. I've never seen any trouble tho, its generally quite chilled out and easy going. I also know a lot of families that go every year and the kids seem to love it.

They used to do Westons frozen cider on draft in a pub round my way which was 2/3 cider then 1/3 cider slush. Top notch for a beer garden session and found westons to be quite a good pint, quite sharp but tasty.

That be the Festival Gods telling you that Gazeboes are NOT allowed at Lowther Calling...
Haha, yeah I've heard the no gazebos rule for the last 5 years yet used one every year without an issue! Really glad I took one last year as everyone around us used it hence was handy for meeting new folk (until the snapping/blowing away incident on saturday night). Im with Ram on the weather situation, I'd take overcast any day of the week as long as theres little to no rain.
-
Im taking no chances after last year, I'm still a little bit scarred from my gazebo snapping in 2 and being blown into the next field so I've bought a massive tent! If it chucks it down you are all more than welcome to join me (bring beer!)

I find Bulmer’s to be a bit tastier than Magners or Strongbow but that’s not really that hard! If they are selling the full accompaniment then we are in for a treat as the more fruity ones are real hangover sorters, I’ll be a bit disappointed if its only apple or pear. Hopefully they will have learnt their lesson from the cider in the real ale tent last year and put a lot more on! I spent quite a bit of the day time in the Kopparberg hut last year, the elderflower and cloudberry Kopparberg were great imo, and the dj was playing some awesome tunes so I’m a little disappointed it won’t be returning. Ideally they will keep the hut and just change what they serve!

I've been to kendal for the last 5 years and from what I remember all the thefts have been on the first night as Ram says. My advice is just use common sense i.e. dont leave valuables lying around, dont keep everything in one bag (as it makes an ideal swag bag), keep valuables either in a secure place or actually on you (I sleep in shorts with pockets and keep my phone/wallet on me. A messy tent is a nightmare for theives as they dont want to be scrambling around searching through peoples underwear for valuables, they want to be in and out. On the whole in the past KC hasn't really been a big target for theives compared to bigger festivals, although that could change this year with the extra attendance.

Hi first time at KC. What's the camping situation like. Don't want 24 hour party land, but not needing the family field. Probably lean more to the quieter part. Any hints/tips on location.
And also what's the space like - is it rammed with tents right up to each other and no space at all or more relaxed with space to lie down outside tents in some comfort?
And is there a 'Rush hour' when arriving and if so how to avoid.
Much thanks in anticipation
Hi chuckles, you seem to be similar to myself in respect to partying. If the layout is similar to the last few years you will find that as you come into the main entrance down the hill the further left you go the quieter itll get (the arena entrance is about 400m right of the main entrance). At the end of the general camping there is a row of toilets and a road before you get into the family camping and campervan field. I tend to camp somewhere near these toilets and have never had a problem either partying or getting sleep.
As far as rush hour I cant tell you about Thursday but I would advise the earlier the better if you are turning up on the Friday. It seems that between 10-12 on the Friday morning is peak time although there wasnt much of a queue at any time last year. Turn up much later than dinnertime on the Friday and you may find general camping busy although its nowhere near as bad space-wise as other bigger festivals so youll always find somewhere to camp.

Keep up the good work ramragon
I dont care what other people say, I think he's a good egg.

Here's mine guys (obviously avoiding the inevitable hot pots, craig charles, riot jazz etc). I probably won't be there on Thursday so if I win im not expecting to claim a prize, however if you see a guy wandering around in a black and cream superdry jacket with brightly coloured fake raybans on feel free to come and say hello!

You follow them on social media ? WOW ! You actually admit that WOW !
Alan is that you ............... ALAN !
I can't believe they are there again ! It's unbelievable tbh ! It's not music it's not funny and now it's becoming an absolute travesty !
Ha, no Loch, I dont follow them, I hate them nearly as much as you do, however I do follow quite a few music venues in cumbria and one, which is supposed to be hosting the hotpots this year put up a link with said info attached. I'll see if i can find the link.

I dont want to upset anyone but im afraid they have more or less self confirmed already. I forget where it was now (think it was either their twitter account or their facebook account) but I read a reply to a post on whether they were playing in cumbria any time soon by saying they were hopeful of playing at KC again and talks were at an advanced stage.

Every festival i've been to (more than 10) has had rain (creamfields the year it got rained off was the highlight/lowlight) so I was quite prepared for that. What spoilt it for me was that my gazebo was flattened by the constant rain and the wind on saturday so it was either sit in the tent on my own or go home. We stuck around until sunday t time and then legged it, which I was a bit gutted about when I look back but sure it was the right choice at the time. Showers are one thing but constant driving rain for 2 days kinda deflates the soul. I think the best we can hope for at KC in general is mainly dry.
-
Does anyone know who the tickets will be available from? ticketmaster is blocked by my employers so if I want to get tickets I may need to "nip out" to try and get some.
-
No problem mate, thats good to know. I suppose if I managed to get an emperors ticket from somewhere it might still be viable though.

Hi guys, I've been to KC for the past 5 years now and have seen my fair share of good and bad weather. My firends and I normally just buy a cheap tent each and leave them there (normally due to them being water logged!) however this year we are contemplating chipping in to hire a transit (or equivalent), driving it into the camper field and kipping in the back. Has anyone had any experience of this in the past?? Or even if its allowed??

I've got Slipknot in liverpool and Jungle in Manchester booked. Really wanted to go to the Whiskey sessions but im travelling around Australia and Thailand next month (unfortunately ). They have started to get a good mix of older bands in venues near me recently (I live in Cumbria), went to see funeral for a friend a couple of weeks ago (who were great), also Tim Burgess and OCS have visited recently and I've heard that a venue is trying to book Reef for a gig amongst others over xmas.

I went to creamfields the year it got called off and that was pretty grim, I remember a river about a foot deep flowing through the campsite like a torrent carrying people on airbeds with it. The mud wasnt much worse than kendal though, the ground was relatively solid, it was just the sheer amount of rain water it couldnt handle.

From memory I think the lager was £4, kopperberg or spirit and a mixer was £4.50. If you go to the kopperberg tent they had all sorts of funky flavours, elderflower was my favourite hangover cure. Apparently they are selling strawberry cider in the real ale tent this year too.
Line up prediction game 2016........
