I do the spare batteries thing too, it's so much easier than faffing about with gadgets and wasting time and money on things which don't work, or have limited effect.

i got tht alpkit one, tis good!

85 litres is quite a big pack, size wise. I'm 5'5" and quite, erm, chunky, and there's no way I could carry an 85l pack simply becuase it's too 'long' in the body, even with the hip straps in the right place. 70l is much better.

right im now the soon to be owner of a vango sigma 300+
and that vango contour 70l rucksack lol
went with that rucksack coz its prettier lol and ive seen 85l in the flesh and man they are huge!!!!!!!

Sowfpig..
Im in Liverpool but I have travelled all round the UK with work so was just thinking about how long it could take you. Even if you had a layin wednesday morning, you could still get down just after lunch..

For some confidence only comes with experience which is gained by driving about their own town and not all drivers have yet gained thet sort of confidence to drive long distances.
I never felt wary about driving anywhere from passing my test 6 months after my 17th birthday, but many friends felt the need to have lessons on the motorway before venturing on it.
Live and let live, we are all individuals.
-
Its a fairly easy run on the motorways you will be fine. If you don't have sat nav use Google Maps or AA Routefinder.

Then you can be a proper girl like me and not even attempt to read a map much to other halfs disgust.

Went to check I hadn't left a boiling hot pan on the kitchen counter in the middle of that post and by the time I finished writing it, you had your answer anyhoo!!!

I have driven there and back twice and on the way down its a real buzz...coming back i was soooo tired but that was cos we left very late sunday/early monday morning.
We tend to travel down on the tuesday and camp in Wells over night, that means we can just get up and go the half hour to Glasto next morning instead of travelling all the way from liverpool early in the morning and then having to haul our stuff across site.
Dont worry about driving though...where abouts south Yorkshire? Sheffield way?
-
Here's a lovely song to go with my recommendation.

I wouldn't buy cheap.
Picture the scene you've arrived at Glastonbury, your excited, you've gone through the ticket exchange and got your wristband, your walking to the campsite and your rucksack splits.
I know its unlikely and an extreme scenario, but it would be f**king horrible. Also if you want to go backpacking or traveling its worth getting one that will last. I spent £90 on mine, its big and comfy and almost certainly will not break.
My dad bought one for £100 and something pounds in the early 80's and he still uses the same one so its worth splashing out a bit.

il find a waay of lugging it to the site it its too heavy lol il find some kind fellow to carry it for me lol
-
Rule of thumb with rucksacks, it should be no taller than your torso.
If you pack it too heavy, use your rollmat as a liner, slip it into the empty rucksack and let it unfurl inside the bag to eat up space and shove things into the space inside the rollmat.

anyone bought one from argos? cheapooooo

Vango Alpha range is inner pitch first design, if you can afford it, the outer-pitch first Sigma range is better.
I've got the Vango Simga 300+ with two entrances, so that I can get a nice cross-flow of air to prevent tent-oven.
However, I've got my eyes on a Quechua tent. I just need to make the trip to Decathlon Canada Water, hopefully after my exams in May.
I did email Decathlon about mail-order, they replied that they have plans for a central warehouse, and when that is installed they hope to offer a mail-order service!
is this waterproof?
