I'm not expecting any more blinding announcements, and even if there is, they'll probably clash with someone I'm already planning on seeing.
-
If it pans out like that, it works out how I imagined - Unearth, Lawnmower, TCV, AC/DC - plus Year Long Disaster! So that would be a win for me. Although its slightly depressing to see so much space in my schedule

Yeah, April has definitely flown - I've personally had a busy month though with gigs, birthdays, wedding planning and the like. Managed to get my coach travel sorted the other day though, so that's one less worry. Just need a new tent and that's the main bulk of things sorted! Looking forward to the festival more as the line-up gets padded out.

Yeah that would suck, but I really wouldn't mind if they showed Metallica's 2006 Master of Puppets set - I'd love to see that!
-
Back at Leeds/Reading 2002, they were 3rd, under The Strokes and Pulp. I wouldn't say their status has risen since then, and in terms of the audience they'd face at Download, I'd say they'd fit neatly between Megadeth and Lamb of God. Then again, it makes more sense to me that they could just be at the RATM free show, given where Download's budget appears to have gone this year.

Kerrang have accidentally announced that Evile are playing, but they weren't announced yesterday: f**k up, or genuine leak? It's not on their website, and there were supposed to be 15 bands announced, but only 14 were given last night, so maybe negotiations aren't complete?
-
Metal Hammer say that T-34 feature, amongst their line-up, Al Murray, The Pub Landlord. Can anyone confirm this?! If true, they could be pretty good/shit, depending on your perspective.
-
Good to see they didn't splurge every single band out. I'm wondering if they can snare Trash Talk for the next announcement - I hear they put on a mental performance every time, would be perfect for some 3rd stage/4th stage anarchy.
-
Nooooooooooo!!!!!!!
Suicidal Tendencies vs Aerosmith - I guess its going to be Aerosmith seeing as though I got 25 minutes of ST in 2007. Still, I'm truly gutted. They are a stellar addition to the line-up.
Good to see Skin back, Genitorturers I didn't expect at all! Would much rather have David Vincent at Download with Morbid Angel though. Don't really care for the rest but will check them out.
Never expected an announcement today, so pleasantly surprised, although the only benefit I can see so far is that Sybreed have been bumped up, so I no longer have a choice to make between them and the Cancer Bats. For now, I'll simply lament ST's inclusion as a headliner
-
I've got a wedding to plan for in the run-up to Download as well this year, so that's making preparation extra tricky! Can't wait though - hoping for a few more improvements to the line-up, though I'm sure once I'm there it will rock as always!

why not have "band of the day"? leak another name every weekday till the festie?

Noticed on Andy Copping's Twitter last night that he has said there'll be one last announcement in two weeks. So I guess that'll be it then. Not sure its worth expecting any more big names - this announcement will be whole of 4th stage, maybe one or two main/2nd acts, a few third stage acts. Opinions?
Copied from Twitter via Google Cache (as otherwise its blocked at work)
# @05rileyj Probably one last announcement to come in about two weeks

I imagine if nobody can get into the country we'd have lawnmower deth and saxon just all weekend.
Haha
...Best not to tempt fate.

I reckon they should compensate in some way by putting on a few bands on the Thursday in the campsite area, a bit like the Download Boardie BBQ. Doesn't have to be anyone overly huge, maybe just a few lower-level bands, the main of which could be expected to fill a tent/small stage. Its been done before so I don't see why they couldn't now.
Honestly, I can't believe they've bent over backwards like this for AC/DC. As much as I like AC/DC, their demands are simply staggering. Its a good job I've an open mind otherwise my day would feel pretty empty. At the end of the day, the main bulk of the ticket fee, for me, is about the bands - doesn't matter if you're as small a name as Revoker or if you're as huge as AC/DC. If I don't think I've seen enough bands for my money it makes me think twice about coming next year. 2008 was an example of this and despite some cracking performances from Kiss, The Wildhearts, etc., I really had doubts about going in 2009 because the overall quality of the festival wasn't up to previous years for my liking. Thankfully they proved me wrong.
I'm hoping this year they'll pad out the second and third stages a bit more yet to give us a bit more choice and variety, and of course bang for our buck. But no way are they going to top this next year, and I don't reckon the ticket price will drop either. Hope it doesn't become a 2 1/2 day fest a la Sonisphere.

I'd like to think they're playing, but I've a horrible feeling AC has missed out on them. Furthermore, where would they place on the line-up? Presumably somewhere near the top of second stage, perhaps above The Used. But I've a nagging feeling this is another top band we're gonna miss out on. I hope I'm wrong.
-
I'm looking forward to them. I mean, its got to be better than Fall Out Boy for starters, which is a good thing. I think between them there's enough musical chops to ensure this rocks, even if it doesn't set the world alight.
-
Its still the Main Stage all the way for me, despite the addition of Michael Monroe. Just feel I can't miss out on any of the main stage headliners; I probably won't regret missing Michael Monroe too much.

Having had time to calm down and rationalise, here's my weekend so far:
Friday: AC/DC, Them Crooked Vultures, Lawnmower Deth, Unearth, Breed 77
Saturday: RATM, Deftones, Megadeth, Lamb of God, Cancer Bats/Sybreed, Rock Sugar/Holy Grail
Sunday: Aerosmith, STP/Airbourne, Motorhead/Steel Panther, Billy Idol, The Dillinger Escape Plan, The Damned Things, Saxon, Ratt.
Hmm, maybe it doesn't look too bad after all. But still, can't help but think its lacking some firepower.
-
I agree. Breed 77's position really doesn't make sense. They did play 3rd stage in 2007 but were much higher up.
As I Lay Dying must at least be an early main stage band by now. Then again, looks like Download really have caved in to AC/DC's demands. Even as an AC/DC fan, I'm extremely disappointed if this is the case.

is it just me or did anyone else hope halestorm what just a misspelled alestorm?
-
30?! I sure hope there's a few crackers in there, though to be honest I'll go nuts if Andrew W.K. gets announced!
Hoping overall there's more to surprise me than the last announcement. There wasn't too much I didn't expect to see in the last announcement, so let's hope there's one or two eye-openers (in a good way!)

Slash
Mastodon
Senser
Flyleaf
Zebrahead
The Get Up Kids
Blessed By A Broken Heart
Moneen
Oh, Sleeper
The Damned Things

Crime In Stereo
Bleeding Through
The Acacia Strain

The Instigators
All Shall Perish
Throwdown
Every Time I Die
Cancer Bats

I reckon the bands will look something like:
MAIN STAGE:
Andrew W.K
Slash
Flyleaf
Zebrahead
Cypress Hill
3 other 'nobody' bands
SECOND STAGE:
7 or 8 pretty awful bands
THIRD STAGE:
Alexisonfire
Alestorm?
AFI
AFI and Alexisonfire on 3rd stage? Are you mental? I reckond ETID could be there thsi year. Where has all this Andrew WK stuff come from?
-
I'm sure they won't have such problems. They are professionals after all.
Should I sell my Soni Tickets and get Download tickets instead?

Based on the last announcement, Sonisphere now looks shit hot - really wishing Download had some of those bands rather than the generic metalcore/deathcore stuff. But its all personal taste in the end. If those bands (+ Tim Minchin) doesn't float your boat, you might want to go through with selling them.
