The weather on Thursday looks woeful. Huge rain storm passing through.

Anyone else from Ireland heading over?

????? Where are you getting this from? Both the BBC  and the Met Office are showing light showers between 2.00 pm and 5.00 pm, but otherwise sunny and 25°C.

You're not The Nal in disguise are you?

Have they announced what time the gates open yet? Wouldn't mind getting their early on Thursday to exchange tickets for wristband

We've got VIP tickets and they have told us we can pick our wristbands up from 3.00 pm on Thursday. I assume it would be similar for standard tickets. I don't know whether the gates open at the same time. We will probably turn up somewhere between 4.00 pm and 5.00 pm.

It's great to be going to a festival where you don't have to check the weather forecast every 5 minutes!

  3. I have no idea why I haven't got to see The Flaming Lips in the past, but it hasn't happened for one reason or another. Over the years I've read a lot of posters on Efestivals extolling their virtues, so when they were announced to headline The Park it seemed like the perfect opportunity.

My wife and 2 adult daughters arrived at the end of Sleaford Mods and took up a position in the centre and back a bit from the stage. We were almost immediately moved by security as they brought in a van and started constructing the platform that Wayne walked (balled?) across to during Space Oddity. We managed to stand just in front of the barrier around the platform and this proved to be an excellent position as we got to see all the crazy things happening on stage along with the wonderful light show.

We all loved it. What an amazingly uplifting, happy, emotional, joyous experience. It's almost operatic.
I can die a happy guy knowing that I've seen a man riding an illuminated unicorn whist wearing rainbow angel wings.

Anyone been listening to the mad cool spotify playlist? Been using it to listen to bands I've never heard of. Quite liking benjamin booker, think there may be a few clashes I wasn't anticipating

I've been listening to Benjamin Booker as well. I really like it, but he clashes with Green Day, as do Cage The Elephant. Friday is the worst for me for clashes as I'll have to miss Spoon to see Rancid as well.

Last year, these were the prices. (1 MAD = 1€)

For 3€ you could get 0.5 lit. of fresh beer. It wasn't an expensive festival.

    (agua=water; refresco=coca cola/fanta; cerveza=beer; kalimotxo=wine+coca cola; combinado=spirits, gin tonic, rum coke, whisky...; Mini = 1 liter glass)

    Mad_Cool_Precios_Bebida.jpg

Thanks for that, it's really interesting.
I guess something is lost in translation when a 'Cerveza' is 3 Euro, but a 'Mini Cerveza' is 9 Euro!
I'm happy at 3 Euro for a beer.

Only issue is with it being so bastard hot in Madrid, that a litre of beer gets warm and flat real quick unless you finish it sharpish.

I'm going with my wife and two daughters (both adults). I quite like drinking small glasses of lager for exactly the reason you say - it doesn't get warm and flat. I guess I'll have to ask for a litre of beer and 4 straws!

And yep, he got a lot of young people's attention, but again, 'why?' needs to be considered. Some of it is very likely to be about free uni, but free uni was on offer before without creating anything like the same turnout (in fact, there was a bigger youth turnout for the no-free-uni of Miliband than there was for the free-uni of Clegg). Then again, there was a bigger free-uni offer from Corbyn than Clegg.

It's entirely possible that the 'bribe' of free uni was a factor, but wasn't Corbyn energising young people before the manifesto came out? As far as I can make out from my admittedly limited knowledge, younger voters make up a large demographic of people that have attended his rallies and speeches over the last few years. And should we not view this as a very good thing?

Labour did a LOT better with the middle group. than i thought.

Christ! What happens on your 55th birthday? Does the Blue Fairy come in the night and sprinkle you with Tory dust?
    Luckily I'm in the 23%.
Still, gives you some optimism for the future.

We're in Tetbury and that's pretty much the exact route we take. Last year's debacle excepted, it works pretty well.

only bad thing is i will have to deicide shall i watch whole set of Manics or whole set of Dinosaur Jr. i'd give them 8/10 for that timetable

thursday - Warpaint - bored (might watch Foals) - Foos - Kurt Vile

friday - Deap Vally - Rancid - Ryan Adams - Green Day - Slowdive - perfect day, but i'd like to see a bit of Cage of Elephant

    saturday - Xavier Rudd - Wilco - Manics - Dinosaur Jr - Kings Of Leon - M.I.A

Funnily enough that's almost the same as my plan. Swap Warpaint for The Lumineers and MIA for Foster The People and we're there!

I would also like to have seen Benjamin Booker and Cage The Elephant, but you can't have everything.
Looking forward to an amazing festival in glorious weather. I'll probably just about have dried out from Glastonbury by then!

I don't think anyone's gonna claim them as a capital Important act, but for a bit of fun early in the day I can think of worse ways to wake up - they made a sustained enough impact on the charts to have soundtracked my younger years to a certain extent, down the school disco and in Smash Hits.

I guess I'm one of the few people to see the original Bananarama line up. I went to see The Jam at the Michael Sobell Sports Centre in Islington (they did strange things like that in those days!) and 3 young girls skipped on stage with a tape machine, pressed play and started to sing. I thought 'There's no way these girls are ever getting a career in music'. Shows what I know.

  12. I don't know if anybody has mentioned this before, but I recently made a batch of banana bourbon. Just chuck in a load of ripe banana and leave for two weeks. I was surprised at how good it was.

Some infusions you really have to drink cold, but this was fine at room temperature.

  13. To prove Quark's point - not my favourite line up. Just goes to show that it's all subjective. Mind you, by the time I've listened to loads of people I've never heard of from the line up, there will probably be lots I want to see.

You mean Rupert and Cressida Mandeville-Smythe.

    This is glastonbury after all.

Rupert and Cressida got married? I didn't know that.
Still, they'll be able to watch Ed Sheeran together this year.

I wonder - could it be the WOMAD site or is that too close...

I'm not really sure that it's big enough for a full size Glastonbury replacement. A smaller festival, sure.

How about the Badminton estate? Absolutely big enough and they are already used to the logistics of moving large numbers of people around the local road system.

The only slight complaint would be are the Foo's worthy of closing the festival? I would imagine they're there by default because The Radioheads asked to do the Friday so they could enjoy the rest of the weekend on the farm.

Worthy of closing the festival? I guess that depends on whether you like them or not, but I don't see too much of a problem with them drawing a big crowd who will undoubtedly have a good time.

  17. 1 hour ago, Maurice Mecca said:

Isn't that the same for any artist?

Yeah, it tends to be. Headliners don't often turn up at Glastonbury for a 'one off'. I don't get why the Foo Fighters get stick for doing a number of dates around Glastonbury, but Radiohead less so. They have a similar number of festival dates lined up.

Meh. I've just accepted that we now live in world where the majority opinion is to be frightened, angry, selfish, inward-looking, nationalistic, judgmental and indifferent to others.

    It just makes me sad.

    Yep.
In my younger days I was an optimistic idealist. I used to go on CND and anti-racist marches and campaigned against the poll tax. I still retain a little of that spirit, but I honestly think that the human race is hellbent on destruction.

Nothing that has happened this year has helped to sway me from this view.
Christ, we need something good to happen for once.

That's simply not true. Someone suffered a hideous burn, the equivalent of being spat at while frying an egg.

Hang on, hang on! I did the frying of the eggs for breakfast at Glastonbury and got splashed a few times. It damn well hurts a lot!

Disclaimer: I am a bit of a girly.

This view has been justified  by no-one suffering any injuries.

Well, I don't have a really strong view on this subject, but I can't entirely agree with this statement. Just because nobody has been seriously injured by one doesn't mean they never will be. I've never had a really serious car accident, but I know the possibility exists.
