  1. For me it will depend what is on at the same time as the footie. Watched the Germany game in 2010, although I would have liked to have seen Slash, but watched Springsteen in 2012 at the Isle of Wight Festival rather than watch England v Italy.

Glastonbury catered very well for those wanting to watch the football at the last World Cup and I can't see it being any different this time.

  2. I have no problem if an individual buys a ticket fair and square on the open market and then can't go and decides to sell it to someone who can. If that seller wants to make a profit and the buyer is willing to pay then that's up to them.

I have a problem if a company is set up with the express intention of using nefarious means (under-the-tabe deals with promoters, flooding ticket releases with an army of employees with company credit cards) to purchase as many tickets as possible (at the same time denying those tickets to people whop genuinely want to go) so that they can then sell those tickets on to the same people they denied the opportunity to purchase in the original sale at an increased price.

The problem is where do you draw the line, how you define a private/individual sale for the 'right' reasons from what viagogo and the like do. Obviously these aer businessess are set up to offer a front that it's individuals trying to re-sell tickets they can no longer use, and some of the time it is, but that's also a convenient thing to hide behind while practicing the far more profitable business of mass ticket purchase/mark-up that has nothing to do with an individual trying to sell on an unwanted ticket.

You also have to be comfortable in categorising the 'old-fashioned' street touts or the bedroom touts who use their savings to buy four extra tickets for Reading of V and use the profits from a modest mark-up as their beer money for the weekend (though that was more prevalant back in the days when these festivals instantly sold out). Are these people as bad as viagogo? Should any kind of re-selling be banned, and thus shaft the person who bought four tickets and had a mate pull out and jut wants to get back what he paid?

The option to re-sell a gig/concert/festival ticket should not be made illegal, but there should be a limit to any mark up (say 10%). This would be difficult to police rearding bedroom or street touts but would address what it hink is the biggest problem, the online touts/re-sellers and their horrendous fees and mark-ups.

  3. I think he went down like a lead balloon! :)

Cropredy is such a weird crowd, there are people in camping chairs all the way down the front and people with head-torches on reading and knitting during the bands! No one seems to dance much or even move their heads. Me and my mates went mental though.

  4. I love Pearl Jam, but have to agree, I don't think they've got enough that people know to make them a good Pyramid headliner. There just aren't enough hits to keep those who go and just see the headliners happy. It's not the bands fault, it's just the way it is. Spin The Black Circle is their only top 10 single, only 6 others even made the top 20.

  5. surely...and I hope his her/her sake...Elias was taking the piss in the Artic Monkeys vs. Pearl Jam comparison. Do Artic Monkeys sell records outside of the UK? they'll never be more than a club band in the US. They're biggest gig (prestige wise) there was/and will always be, a support slot at Madison Square Garden to Black Keys

  6. I bought the first two Pearl Jam albums and then just faded away from them. Well, I faded away from music in general for a few years - family came along, no money etc. so no gigs - less music bought. This was long before the days of computers when you could only listen to the radio or go out and actually buy CD's. I don't suppose youngsters today now how lucky they are to be able to turn on their computer and listen to anything by any artist in the world - for free!

Anyway, back to the point. I think I saw the Pearl Jam documentary on TV and realised there was a lot more to them than I had given them credit for, so I went a bought the double 'Greatest Hits' CD. Wow! What a revelation. Some of the slow tracks are sensational, especially Off He Goes and Yellow Ledbetter.

Bought Backspacer (again, Just Breathe became an instant entry into my top 100 tracks) and saw them at Isle of Wight festival. Is there a better voice in rock than Eddie Vedder's?

Nowadays we are a little more affluent and our festival and gig attendance has now become a family affair with our two adult daughters often accompanying us. We are all hoping that Pearl Jam will tour next year to promote the new album and we will definitely be there if they do. Glastonbury would be the icing on the cake.

  7. Certainly did it well enough for our group. My daughters didn't think they'd know many of the songs, but I told them before that I thought they might be surprised and they surely were.

Many highlights for me including 'Happy', 'Sympathy For The Devil' and the first notes of 'Satisfaction' causing a massive cheer and the whole place jumping up and down.

The only downside for me was a group of youngsters (girls and lads) who came in just before the start (about two thirds of the way back from the stage on the right hand side). I'm sure you've all seen the type before - ooohhh let's take lots of photos of ourselves before putting the girls on our shoulders and bumping into all those around as often as possible. My wife was closest to them and it was spoiling her evening, so I changed places with her. I suppose they were just having fun in their own way, but have a little regard for other people for Christ's sake.

  8. I was using the back to back urinals thing and the gentleman the other side was a bit too inaccurate with his aim causing splashing on our side.

A 6 foot plus bare chested chap came and stood alongside me and received a bit of sprinkling at which point he shouted in a broad Irish accent 'Oh fer Christ's sake piss on the tin ya fuckin' donkey'. Kept me giggling to myself for ages.

  9. If something isn't broken then why fix it? Their music is their music - could you see Iron Maiden changing to disco as their second album? Can you see Bruce Springsteen changing the style of his next album from boring American rock to reggae?

  10. Yup, the guy played about 15 sets around the festival. Im sure he could have just used the early afternoon sun to play a few songs on the pyramid instead of spending 5 minutes inbetween each song moaning about the police and other things.

Were all entitled to an opinion, his was to moan on the main stage, mine was for him to be quiet.

  11. I'm doing both Kilkenny shows, yes mate. Doubt he'll depart from the "hits" those two nights - so no chance of something as cerebral and demanding as The River.

    /thread hijack.

Not sure about that. Springsteen has a habit of doing the unexpected. Most people expected a 'hits' set at Wembley, or at least a full album BITUSA. We got Darkness.

Apologies for talking about Bruce in this thread. I'm actually looking forward to The Stones too.

  12. It does seem a bit strange.

The bit that seemed odd to me is that they claim your friends can camp next to you in their own tent for an extra £25. How would they work out how much space they would need in total without knowing well in advance how many people would take advantage of this?

  13. It's actually quite difficult to set up a verified world record for anything.

We took part in a world record air guitar attempt at Womad a few years ago. My wife was keen on the idea and I took a bit of persuading, but it was a glorious sunny morning and turned out to be good fun.

Anyway, it took a heck of a lot of organisation with many stewards forming thousands of people into rows so they could be accurately counted. As someones has already said, you need officials from Guinness World Records to be present.

I have to say, I was pretty damn hot on the air guitar.

    Good luck Emsie
