  1. Following a conversation with friends last night, the topic of camping areas has come up. Especially as we are so close and all! Anyways, traditionally, we camp on the West Side, Pennards, Dairy or the like. As a result, I know the West side access on the first day, know what to (roughly) expect, and where to drive.

Now, however, we've decided to try something on the opposite side. Looking at the excellent GoogleEarth map (as detailed below) I see that we'd need to follow the Blue route, and enter via Pedestrian Gate B. Now, if you were going in via Gate D I could tell you that you will not get into W26 to park your car (last year, it was full of vans, utes etc that were segregated). The best we could do for a first thing arrival was W24, and a small walk up the hill.

What I'd like to know is peoples experiences of the East site. Arriving first thing, doe you get put into the close parks (ie E1, E2 etc) or do they do some sort of random thing where you end up miles away?

Any little stories would be of interest!

    Ta.

  2. And heres me thinking world poverty needed more than a few million to solve. And its Geldof who asks people to give money, i dont think I've heard Bono mention it outside the charity shows many artists are a part off. His beef is with wiping world debt and AIDs, and I think he got George Bush to clear 5 Billion of it, and sadly we live in a world where politicians listen more to celebrities than the public so like him or hate him its the world we have created. And how often have you personally heard Bono preaching? sure could count on your hands. And you could get ticket to the most recent tour of u2 for £25, there was an auction for the best seats but the proceeds went to the Charity 'Red'...and some other money of the recent tour is also being donated, I think I heard 9mill, and seeing as this is shaping up to be the most profitable tour of all time thats alot of money
  3. Hi, for my siblings birthday I want to get her some memorabilia from her first Glastonbury.

This is 1989, and if anybody has posters, tickets, programs etc I would be willing to pay for anything from this year.

Really having difficulty finding anything from this year.

Also would happily buy anyone a drink at this years festival if they can help me out.

    Cheers!

  5. Im not a big fan of either U2 or Bono but FFS the stages of glasto have been graced with Egotistical twats in many shapes and sizes over the years, they are rock/pop/rap/whatever f**king genre you like Stars!, Being an egotistical twat goes with the territory and a lot of the time its those massive egos that have proved themselves to be a great success up there on the stage,

At various stages in their careers both Clapton and Bowie have come out with totally racist nasty bullshit but they are forgiven or its forgotton because its "The Drugs talking" or some other shit excuse and folks beg for them to appear at Glasto because they are "Stars", Doherty/Winehouse are nothing short of a Heroin/crack promotion ad on legs... but hey its entertainment cos they are rebels and make a good noise when on stage dont they??? and they dont preach! so apprently they are cool. ......Its a Rock band and its a festival! and the only folks that are politicising the gig right now is some of the ticket holders !.

  6. Who is saying Bono never says anything political at his gigs? I think the point being made was that most people who were giving out about his views and ramblings actually never went to a U2 gig, and so many have the impression that people enter into Bonobating without any experience of Bonos ramblings..........they simply base it on rubbish they read or hear from others giving out about him...........
  7. Fantastic mate. Superb.

Massive Attack, Manic's, Billy Bragg etc never afraid to let political / social issues come through with their performance. Specially at Glastonbury.

People knockin' Bono here just stepping in time with anti-Irish media bias in the UK.

  8. Wow! A whole 30 seconds of a political statement! What a bastard! Id want my money back! Nearly as bad as a Massive Attack gig or and Manic Street Preachers gig............f**king cheek!

I would never go to a gig and have an artist make a point on anything! They should all just shut the f**k up and sing, play and dance like the the little monkies I pay them to be!!

    :P:P

And if anyone made a political statement at Glasto!!!..............well that would be the end of that! I would never go again if I thought that carry on was going down...........Not at Glasto! No Way! :P:(

  9. I was going to highlight the parts that sounded like a bitter, miss-informed bore down the pub who has taken small anecdotal 'facts' and turned them into a cliche rant about someone he knows nothing truly about, when I suddenly realized it was all of it..

Not a huge fan of U2 - but know it's a fantastic booking. The man just said he's not going to rant and let the music do the talking. How can he win? Now lets all shut up, listen and enjoy..

  10. Because he's an egomaniac self-serving nobber.

Let's be honest, anyone who doesn't think that a multi-millionaire tax exile preaching to his audience (who paid God-knows-what for a ticket) about poverty isn't a bit trite is either gullible or deluded.

His media quotes and appearances are also so cleverly timed and scripted to deceive the simple that it's crystal clear to anyone with a modicum of deductive reasoning that's it's all PR spin, almost worthy of Tony Bliar.

  11. only if you think 130,000 people want to sit in a car park all night doing nothing.

Whether it happens or not, it would very definitely decrease the impact of the traffic that arrives.

  12. Glastonbury is a shed in a cow field - rather stick pins in my eyes!

Above is quote from the U2 thread. It was my favourite and made me laugh a hell of a lot! So much so I had to hang up on a client!!

Thought I would show it to you all.

    xx :P xx

  13. I was looking on the £9.00 Travelodge sale site earlier, and out of curiosity, had a look for the area around Glastonbury. As expected, the closest two hotels have no rooms on the Tuesday before-hand. No surprise there - loads of people go down earlier. What caught my eye was how there are no rooms on the either the Friday or the Saturday. Note the costs of the other nights as well, as compared to a"normal" week. Seems like more people than I thought are staying in a hotel. It's especially interesting that the weekend is booked up - I wonder if people are indeed going to attend just for say, U2, or the Saturday event, then go back. Personally, I couldn't imagine anything worse - the atmosphere in the campsites is part of the draw for me (that, and no beer! I bet a taxi would cost an arm and a leg to get back to town!).

Compare the above with a "normal" week.

Ah, idle speculation. How these 8 months will drag on. :P

  14. That is to say U2 - because the forum is full of threads about them!

My question is though, not specific to just them.

I wonder what are the chances of die-hard fans of large acts announced before the next round of ticket sales, trying to buy tickets just to see their band. For example, take U2. Imagine you are a die-hard fan. For the price of a Glasto ticket, you get the chance to see your band in an unregulated seating environment, where the only limit to how close you can get is not ticket price, but simple pushing?

Could we not see people buying Glasto tickets, coming on say Friday night, pushing to the front, seeing said band, and then going home? After all, I suspect that there would be fans who've paid more for seats in worse spots that you could get at Glasto.

It'd be a shame if that happened, as it would deny festival fans from getting the chance to stay for the weekend.

Same applies to any other large bands they might announce before next sales.

  15. For those that only started going on in their 30's and above...what made you start going to them then? Most people I know (of all ages) got into them in their teens/early 20's..and carried it on from there.

Were you put off them in the past or just didn't fancy it?
