  1. This is the t-shirt I was on about. In my opinion and those of my mates several of whom ARE going this year far better strength in depth. For me, the same can be said for ‘09 ‘10 and ‘11 really.

  2. Maybe I’m getting old and I know it’s horses for courses, but overall, the Glasto line up really is so shite this year, I’m glad I’m not going.  Probably 2 or 3 must sees for me when it’s usually 20 or 30.

I recently dug out an old 2007 t-shirt- checking the back print that had a properly brilliant line up and I loved the fest, despite the site being like the Somme public baths that year.

I pulled out of my resale group as a result of the line up (they all got tickets) as I felt the cash outlay wasn’t quite worth it for the craic alone.

Hope you all have a good one  - it can be the best place on earth with the right ents to enjoy

    cheers all

I'm comparing it to my last visit in 2014 where NOS was absolutely rife on just about every stage, stone circle etc and pissing up hedges seemed to be a competitive sport. Chinese lanterns had pretty much disappeared before then at Michael's request. It does work, first you get a reduction then peer pressure kicks in.

Coincidentally saw loads more (badly rolled) spliffs. I got great amusement from one lad trying to smoke a particularly badly made joint that just wouldn't stay lit, I reckon he was getting more of a buzz off the lighter fumes than whatever was in his jazz cigarette!

There's no excuse for poor joint construction is there!

  4. Tough.

    I went in '93, '97' '99, '00, '02, '07, '09, '10, and '11.

    1) Radiohead, Pyramid '97. A real epiphany despite the conditions.

    2) REM, Pyramid '99. Stipe was like a man possessed.

    3) Coldplay, Pyramid '02 Launched my love of one of my favourite bands. Shame the quality of their output has, for me, been gradually dropping off since X&Y.

    4) Orbital, Jazzworld '99. Only fairly sure of the year- it was the time that carnival float came right through the Jazzworld field in the middle of their set. Bonkers! :D

    5) The Orb, the NME stage '93. Blew my mind. A very low pH that year ;)

Honourable mentions to David Bowie in 2000, early Elbow in 2002 (I think), Doves and Blur in 2009, Stevie Wonder and Thom and Jonny in 2010 and all of Radiohead in 2011.  :)

I'm pretty sure that it's 2019 they've scheduled as the next fallow year. All subject to change of course. I remember being gutted when Glasto 2001 was cancelled.

Sorry. That's utter bollocks. 2018 is a fallow year and they're talking about having the fest somewhere else.

£80?! Some of those tents cost alot more than £80, with £10 air beds, then £5 chairs.

Mental. 'Don't give a ****' attitude of some winds me up. Unfortunately it doesn't even appear to be a minority.

Yeah, but the £80 would be a rough figure they would lose each assuming they all chip in for the tent- the value of which they (disgracefully) probably intend to write-off from the outset.

It's indicative of the disposable, throwaway culture to which many festival goers clearly - and sadly - belong.

Good luck - sure the family will all love it!

Are we sure that it's deffo going ahead in 2018 or will it be a fallow year?

Do your research and ask loads of questions on here! Has she been to any festivals before?

My Wife's main concern was what kind of footwear to take - she ended up taking Docs and Wellies, which was an excellent choice. Just assure he she will have the time of her life at the best party in the world :)

Cheers. I've been doing that for years.

She been to a day or two at Leeds but like yourself, we would stay at worthy view or similar before if she liked it, we could stay on site the following year. I've done loads of Glastos over the years but she's never really been that up for it.

Tickets permitting, I think I'll do another one without her and then do 2018 with both her and my two daughters when the elder one has finished her GCSEs. It'll certainly be a different fest with the three of them in tow!

  9. Not really in the spirit of the festival but one way to reduce this could be the organisers issuing a warning that they will monitor who camps where and unless you abide by 'love the farm, leave no trace' ethos, your registration will be revoked for say, 5 years.

Of course, this wouldn't stop the 'do Glasto once to check the box' brigade who may make up a large proportion of the offenders, but the fear factor of a ban alone could have some effect on the post-fest state of the fields for very little cost.

  10. Great read. Very brave I think taking by the plunge back in after 19 years. Informative as I'm hoping to take the wife next year for her first Glasto. Any further tips you've got for me to pass on to a 40 something first timer wife?

Move the date of the festival further into the year. It used to be that Glastonbury was always the first festival to kick off the season, it no longer is so why not move it to August.

If this is your solution, you've obviously not holidayed in the UK in August, which we do most years! There's no more of a guarantee of good weather in August than at the end of June so changing the traditional end of June date would solve nothing.

I've seen some classic crowds come to Glastonbury, '99 and '10 being stand out years, but well done to everyone who came and made this a good year, you were one of the best, right up there with those 2 years for me.  You all brought the right attitude, you all kept the spirit and you made my year all the brighter, despite the mud.

Two of my 3 favourite years '99 and '10. So glad it was as good a crowd for you this year as those two years were for me, genuine 'time of my life' weeks.

After a bit of a shite fest in '11 (my best mate collapsed and left early) and some other serious issues in my life in the interim, I've had 5 years away from the fest.

I wasnt sure that in my mid forties the appetite for the mission that is Glastonbury would return but from watching the coverage live on the Iplayer and reading the stories on here and elsewhere I'm really looking forward to returning in '17 - tickets permitting!

An epic tale, I also did a spring - after Coldplay finished, I made it to Crow's Nest within 15 minutes for Mac Demarco. Somehow.

    (I am 26)

That's damn good going! Did Chris Martin lend you his helicopter? :D

First time not at Glastonbury since 2007 so watching from home on TV but it seems most of the flags at the Pyramid stage have disappeared this year - what's happened?

Well done sir. You managed to miss two of the muddiest Glastonbury's ever while taking in one of the sunniest -and my personal favourite - in 2010. I was there in '07 and I struggle to believe even the great Michael Eavis that this years mud is worse. Easy to say fromat home on my sofa though ;)

  15. Just watching beck and there seem to be as many as ever which I've confirmed by looking back at a few shots I took in '10 and '11. that said, earlier in the weekend they seemed to be much less abundant than usual.

'07 wasn't this muddy from the off. Conditions underfoot worse IMO.

The sun is nice but at this stage it becomes a mixed blessing - causes the ground to turn to clay a lot quicker, makes walking a lot more of a task than just walking through liquid mud and massively slows down foot traffic between stages as a result. Oh well, not like we can control any of this...

Sounds a nightmare. I read somewhere that its unusual to have such heavy rain in run up to Glasto which I guess has made it difficult going underfoot. Hope you make the best of it. Your calves must be killing

I think my brain has erased any memory of sun from 07. I was sure it just pissed down the whole time?!

Worse than '07 is a bold statement. Don't remember ANY good days that year either  just an hour or two.

Rumours circulating this campsite that it's going to properly piss down tomorrow from 1pm onwards.

Not currently forecast. Light rain maybe- 40-50% chance from about 4pm

Currently in the midst of what I can only describe as a biblical monsoon attacking my tent. Wish this weather would just make its fecking mind up!

The gutting thing is, a few miles either side of the site, it's not even raining.
