  1. Unashamed 'plug' for the 2012 Wickham Festival in a beautiful rural setting just outside the historic village of Wickham in Hampshire:

Levellers; Jools Holland; K T Tunstall; The Proclaimers; Bellowhead; Oysterband; Show of Hands; Edward II; Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel and many more...

Music on 3 Stages inc. circus-style 'Big Top' (so you don't get wet if it rains) plus:

The 'Groovy Movie' solar-powered cinema; Digital Funfair; Full (non-animal) Circus; Street Theatre; Storytelling; Samba Bands; Dance Displays; Childrens Entertainers, Punch & Judy, Late Night Festival Club...

Traditional Crafts Fayre; Exotic Foods Festival; Ral Ale Festival; Tea Bus; Healing Area; Dance Displays and more!

Relaxed, safe and family-friendly (not a single theft, crime or incident of any kind last year)

Weekend, Day and Evening Only tickets available, with or without camping (free car parking)

  2. My earlier comment referred to the Trowbridge Village Pump Festival in mid-July and not the other Trowbridge Festival in early August. I must admit the fact there's now two Trowbridge Festivals confused me somewhat... and will probably confuse others as well. I assume Flounder's Trowbridge (the August one) is a replacement of sorts for Endorse It In Dorset which isn't happening this year. Anyway, I wish both events well. It's good to know Flounder (Mr. Stripey Jumper) is still organising festivals instead of putting his feet up with a bag of popcorn and watching the Olympics! :sarcastic:

  3. Unashamed plug... :girlhaha:

You could always try the Wickham Festival the same weekend as The Big Chill - Levellers, Bellowhead, Oysterband, Jools Holland, Edward II, Merry Hell and many more:

    www.wickhamfestival.co.uk

If you get in quick you can still book 4-day weekend season tickets by post for just £100 (adult), £50 (under-16s) - a saving of £35 on full-price adult season tickets.

Prices were due to rise last weekend but the cheap-rate 'earlybird' booking forms are still on the Wickham website and will remain valid for another week or so to allow anyone wishing to transfer from The Big Chill to benefit from the cheap rate 'earlybird' tickets at Wickham.

  4. It would be cheaper to park in Gosport on the other side of Portsmouth Harbour from Gunwharf and catch a cross-harbour ferry (a 5 minute trip, every 15 minutes from 5am to midnight). This takes you to the pontoon alongside Portsmouth Harbour station from where you can catch the fastcat to Ryde on the IoW.

Note you can park on the street in Gosport for free. There are plenty of on-street parking spaces within a 10-15 minute walk of the ferry that don't have a time limit on how long you can park. Use the roads off Stoke Road, Forton Road or Spring Garden Lane near the town centre.

There are no traffic wardens patrolling the on-street parking spaces in Gosport so as long as you don't park in the Council car parks or on yellow lines you can enjoy free on-street parking all weekend.

  5. Forums should indeed allow for the good and the bad... and the good comments about Wickham this year far outweigh the bad!

Obviously 'Witchypoo' (a new member who has never posted on efestivals before) has an axe to grind for some reason but it's a bit ripe to say Wickham wasn't child-friendly when the site is as safe as they come and had a host of child-friendly attractions including a cinema tent, EA Hub, digital funfair, Ticklish Allsorts, Puppet Theatre, Punch & Judy, storytelling, face-painting, Craftscene 'make 'n' take' marquee etc. etc. etc.

Many of the other comments from Witchypoo contradict one another.

Much better to read the unbiased 'efestivals' review of Wickham here:

  6. Glad to hear it Happy Chef.

Earlybird season tickets for Wickham 2012 are now on sale - please email Wickham Festival for a booking form.

Buy before the end of August and you save a whopping £45 on every adult ticket plus an extra £5 on every camping ticket! :D

The Wickham website is having some maintenance and an upgrade as I type on Sunday morning but should be up-and-running again soon.

  7. Good to see the positive comments on what was probably the best Wickham Festival yet.

Nice to also see artists using Twitter and social media to say how much they enjoyed appearing at Wickham and how great the audience was.

Particularly pleasing to report that there was not a single theft, crime or incident of any kind at Wickham this year.

How many other festivals can say they are completely crime-free?

  8. Just to make you all jealous I've been getting a fantastic suntan on the Wickham site today. Absolutely gorgeous (the site, not me) in something of a heatwave with more sun forecast for the rest of this week. Big Top already up. Bar Marquee also up. The Bar Manager has shed his ties with the big corporate brewers and is getting-in a great range of local real ales this year... and we'll need them if the weather stays this good. Will try to post some photos of the site in the next day or so. B)

  9. Thanks Marooned. I'm sure Michael Eavis has a big heart though I'd happily give him mine in return for his Festival budget which is much bigger than mine (though he can keep his mud).

Overheard in the Wickham Tea Rooms on Sunday afternoon. Two women of advanced age talking about the Festival saying they're "so looking forward to having those nice hippyish people back in the village"... "they're so polite and they smile at everybody".

Must have been you they were talking about Marooned. Or could it have been Mr. Blue or Mad Manx?

  10. O.K. I know Cornbury has received some bad publicity after losing loads of money in previous years and being labelled "Poshstock' (and worse)... but having just returned from this year's Cornbury Festival in its new location at Great Tew I have to say I enjoyed a fantastic weekend on a gorgeous site with some great music and a host of other entertainment. The organisation was excellent. Plenty of friendly stewards and car park marshals. Good facilities including clean loos. Even the sun shone!

Perhaps worth noting given some of the other comments on this thread is that there were a variety of local stalls including a quite superb Tea Tent where the profits were going to local schools and charities.

Having read all the adverse comments before attending I just felt I had to say this was a seriously top-class festival that ticked all the right boxes this year. Well done.

  11. Now other plans for this weekend have fallen through I'm struggling to resist this one! A few years ago it would have been literally just round the corner, now it will mean driving down from The Far North. Hmmmm......
