I'm a bit obsessed with winning tickets, but I'm going anyway. Is that weird?

No, although I might not be the best person to comment.  My family think I'm nuts, possibly reached a new low last night on way home from gym when I insisted we stop at an almost on the way home co-op for a fruitless search for Clipper Tea.  "We need milk" I said.  I was fooling no one.

Have any of the Avalon lot heard anything about when the training day will be in May?

Their Facebook group page "Avalon Bars & Events x Glastonbury volunteering" says an email will be sent out tomorrow.

I think I'm just being paranoid but anyway. For those that have won cases of cider in the Brothers competition and used the codes from those to enter again, have you managed to win anything?  I've won a few prizes with purchased cans, but nothing with the codes from prize cans.

I assume its just the luck of the draw and maybe more people are entering now making it harder, but I thought I'd ask.

I've won a further crate and a survival pack with "prize cans".

I volunteer each year and almost always on the train and swear by a 2 litre plastic water bottle of Aldi Brandy.  It's so ubiquitous and adaptable.

It can be drank warm or cold and with or without mixer. It's a win hands down. Take that and a decent sized hip flask and you can buy the cider / beer on site as and when and always have a shot (or two) in the day sack.

Think I've got some of that in the liquor cabinet, will give it a bash!

yeah, have you volunteered with avalon before? I really rated it! last year was my first and pleased to be going back with them this year. decent campsite with hot and cold showers, clean loos and ofc food and bevs! Location is alright too. Trek from gate A but doable if can keep weight down when you can get bags of cold cans on site.

As a punter i usually camp in Michaels' mead so was nice to be at the other side and see more of the circus areas etc!

No, I've volunteered once before stewarding with Oxfam (which was great).  Excited to be doing Avalon this year for the different experience.  Love the location of the campsite, right outside gate C.  Normally drive and take the kitchen sink to Paines Ground so already obsessing about slimming down the packing list for train/coach travel, unfortunately crates of beer and boxes of cider seem to be obvious ones to lose.  Off sales sounds like great replacement option.

They sold a few different tinnys, cider and beer as far as I remember from last year. think they were about £1.50 and cold. I only bought cider so not sure if there was anything else! Food was decent and plenty with the vouchers, however you could get additional meals for cheap too!

Thanks, sounds pretty decent,  will be trying to keep the weight down for that potential long walk from gate A on arrival!

  7. On the T&Cs it says the Avalon Bars staff campsite has subsidised off-sales.  Can anyone who has used before remember what they sold, prices and if it was cold etc?  Ta.

    Tears would be involved...

As I'm sure is the case for many on here, not going is not an option for me.  For some reason I'm fairly confident I would be able to bag an Oxfam place before the festival even if unsuccessful in the resale.  Massive gamble though so veering towards just accepting the place as its the only one that's actually real at the moment.

Having been a few times (14 with 1 x oxfam stewarding) thinking it would be interesting to do bar work inside the fence for the different perspective.  Also travelling light and coaching it could be a new challenge.  Would miss my cool box in the car though.  Someone said they sell cheapish booze at the avalon camp which would help.   Would then just take a bit of boxed cider and spirits.

I waited until after the resale to look into volunteering last year. After I didn't get a resale ticket I found it really hard and stressful to get a spot and I really wished i'd sorted it out before. Long story short, take the Avalon spot. If you're lucky enough to not need it it's a bonus.

Gone all in and signed up - I'm on my way!  Thanks for the advise and best of luck to those still trying, still plenty of time left.

How would you feel if you missed out in the resale and you had turned down this guaranteed place?

    I’d take the sure thing

  10. Just been offered an Avalon spot from the waitlist, desperate for a way in but its a really tough decision with the resale looming (post deposit deadline) and the travel restrictions compared to Oxfam (loved having the car next to the Oxfield when I stewarded with them).  Glad I've got a few days to think about it.  Even considering being prepared to lose the deposit if successful in the resale, probably need to have a word with myself!

Is it wrong to be more worried about the garden than Glastonbury at this stage ?

Yes it's wrong!  I should really of been trimming our laurel hedge this weekend as it needs to be done.  Fear of pre Glastonbury weekend power tool / back injuries has made me reconsider.

  12. Unpopular opinion; Brother Bar cider is rubbish.

In my early Glastonbury days going to west holts for that first pint of pear cider was something to look forward too.  Now I can barely stomach it.  Much prefer the cider bus cider or/and taking my own "bag in a box" farmhouse cider.

Not sure if I've just got more of a refined taste now or its just not up too much.  Shame as I used to really enjoy it.

    Confession over.

  13. I found disposables incredibly convenient for festivals and holidays, anywhere I didn't want to take my usual cloud buster to really.  Was going to do the same for Glastonbury but this has made me think about it and I've just bought a smaller kit for MTL.  Might still shove a disposable in my pocket for battery management failures though.  Well done Glastonbury for highlighting the issue, we all know they are bad.

https://www.mountainwarehouse.com/inca-extreme-80l-rucksack-p16258.aspx/brown/#tabArea - I'm after a larger rucksack, I have a 65l but want an 80l really - that would be the difference between getting my sleep mat AND sleeping bag in vs just one, leaving more room for carrying alcohol in bags in my hands.

This is looking good, just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for similar around the same price point?

Looks decent.  Worth also having a look on eBay for British army Bergen.  Pre-owned but massive and very strong.  Sworn by mine for festivals for years now.
