People at work often use plastic gloves .... aren’t they supposed to be used in clinical settings when people move between patients and are pretty ineffective elsewhere .... washing hands and sanitising is far better ... just don’t put your hands near your nose /mouth in the meantime ...

The use of gloves in some situations drives me crazy. I made a complaint to the local Morrison's (which unsurprisingly fell on deaf ears) that the checkout operators were wearing disposable gloves, but never changing them. So they would handle the person in front of me's cash, touch their mask or scratch their face, and then grab my fresh produce straight after. Not wearing gloves and using hand sanitiser between customers would be much safer (or changing gloves between customers but that would be wasteful at scale). For some reason people think wearing gloves magically makes their hands safe. It's another example of hygiene theatre.

And we had no choice but to go to the checkout because we had a trolley, which aren't allowed in self-checkout at Morrison's (even when the store is empty at 7am in the morning). Now we just fill up two baskets to the brim and go to self-checkout for our weekly shop.

Sorry for the rant, but incorrect disposable glove usage does my head in.

  2. If the Monkeys do a set as good as TRNSMT 2018 (with the addition of a few Glastonbury specials such as Fluorescent Adolescent, When the Sun Goes Down, or (god willing) A Certain Romance), I don't understand how anyone could not have at least somewhat of a good time.

  3. @Toilet Duck I hope you don't mind me asking, but are you able to provide a quick outline of your job and expertise? I am sure it has been answered somewhere in the first 200 pages, but I joined this thread a bit late and while I do read your posts with great interest and place a lot of weight on what you say, I think it would be helpful if I (and I imagine some others) had an idea of how you know all that you do.

This is not an attempt to discredit you, I am just genuinely interested in your background as you are so knowledgable (and seem to know all of the well-known figures in the science community).

It would also help when I try to reiterate things you have said on here to my girlfriend, and when she asks me where I got that information all I have at the moment is "some guy on the eFestivals thread who seems to know his stuff"!

    Thanks a lot :)

  4. Idles and Fontaines DC are my second and third favourite bands at the moment.

I was at Glastonbury this year and hadn't heard of them nor did I see them. It is one of my biggest regrets, but has taught me a valuable lesson to do more due diligence on the line up before attending (this was my first Glastonbury). I've only just started to open my musical world up.

I've seen them both in London over the past couple weeks to atone for missing them at Glastonbury, and both absolutely blew me away. Idles at Ally Pally, while a divergence from the size and nature of their typical gig, was an amazing and cathartic experience. I hope theyre headlining a stage next year.

Yeah, youre missing names as mentioned before. And where is Yusuf Islam ( cat stevens ) , david gray and camila cabello. Youre also billing halsey much too low. Its as if she hasnt changed her stature in 3 years. Wilco would feel like a park stage act than other, same as phoebe bridgers. Is the other stage going to be ultra folk indie for one day or something?

Has Cat Stevens been mentioned as possible? This would make my life. Nothing I can Google brings up any rumours for this year though.

Interesting - thank you for the tip! If you don't mind me asking, how long were you sat refreshing the page? Or did you just happen to get lucky and check at a time when tickets happened to have been uploaded?

Both times I got through I just randomly decided to load the page and got lucky. But in saying that, the two days leading up to it I was sat at my desk reloading on my phone every 5 minutes while "working".

Tickets only got sent out last week so there will be a lot more listings over the next couple of weeks and the week before the gig. I remember last year I was successful with this strategy to get O2 Arctic Monkeys tickets a week before the gig, and there was a new listing every 10 minutes it felt like.

  7. As someone who has been successful at purchasing two Idles tickets on Twickets (in two separate transactions), my number one tip is not to rely on any form of notification. I recommend regularly loading the Ally Pally ticket page on Twickets and hoping that you time it that someone lists them at the same time. The notifications are too delayed and someone always snaps them up within 30 seconds of listing. Both times I had completed payment and contacted the seller before the notification even came through (and I am fairly certain I am not a bot).

Good luck to all and fingers crossed they return to the Farm next year.

    I thought I'd heard this.

I believe the one person who is in our 6 who will likely be in another group will tell me straight away if she's sorted. I couldn't handle getting through and then having to start from scratch.

    To clarify, it's:

Coach Sale - max of 4

General Sale - max of 6

Coach Resale - max of 2

General Resale - max of 4

Has the Coach sale numbers gotten smaller since last year?

    From the website for 2019:

"To book a combined Coach + Festival ticket package you will need the registration number and registered postcode for each person (up to 6 per transaction) for whom you are booking."

  9. All reasonable responses. I may have misinterpreted the overall feelings towards AM and was intrigued by the hostility.

I agree that the bands attitude towards performing live and also their attitude towards playing the crowd pleasers does not necessarily lend itself to being a great headliner, but they do turn it up for the big occasions I think (e.g. TRNSMT 2018).

So long as we get one of FM, Reg, The Kinks or AM I will be over the moon.

  10. Long time lurker, but first post.

It has been very interesting reading the discussions regarding headliners. Lots of thoughtful posts and different opinions. However, one thing that did stand out seems to be a fairly consistent dislike or apathy towards the idea or the Arctic Monkeys headlining, and I was wondering if someone could take a shot at explaining this position.

To me, the Monkeys are currently the biggest band still active in the UK and have been pretty consistently reliable since 2007, even though there style has changed regularly. Their headlining slot in 2013 is accepted by most fans as being their one of their best, if not their best, performance, however it seems a lot of reviews on here from people who were there were not impressed. Why is this?

Since their last headlining slot, they have released 2 albums, one of which was a worldwide success and the most recent being a significant deviation, but shows a more mature side and has some absolutely amazing live songs (four out of five, ultracheese, one point perspective). Plus their usual bangers from earlier years and considering the impact they have had on most British people who would now be in their 20s and 30s, it seems like it would be appropriate to have a proper British band like them to headline on one of the nights of the 50th.

What are the arguments against? Too recent since their last slot? Too mainstream? Not good enough?

I'll just be happy to have tickets next year, but I would have thought AM would have been preferred to a band such as The 1975, so interested to hear peoples thoughts.
