Does anyone know if the showers are unisex? They weren't separated as ladies and men's last night that's all.

Self-policed this morning. Womens on the left and mens on the right.

Very odd set up all round with the showers, but there was no queue at 8/9.

An extra couple of notes on this:

Sunset on Thursday (and maybe Friday too) might be fairly spectacular. There's likely to be a moderate amount of aerosol (from forest fires) high in our atmosphere to the west, which should give us a redder than usual sunset as it will scatter more of the shorter-wavelength blue light away.

If you've got kids (or are just interested yourself), make the most of the dark skies by spotting the International Space Station. It always travels east to west and will be visible to the naked eye for 3-6 minutes. Approx. times:

    • Thursday: 22:51
    • Friday: 22:04, 23:51
    • Saturday: 22:53
    • Sunday: 22:06

Jeez, West to East!!! Can't edit.

  3. Real tough one tomorrow between Dry Cleaning, Wolf Alice and Hot Chip! I've seen all three before, but in an ideal world I'd see them all again this weekend.

I think I'll end up at Wolf Alice, wearing my Dry Cleaning t-shirt! Pretty gutted that Dry Cleaning are so late and give the three-way clash but they're the cheapest of the three to see elsewhere. Hot Chip bottom of the three currently, but that could all change if I'm in a real party mood!

Right, I promised a proper weather forecast a couple of days ago. I've not got a green screen, or the looks for TV, so here goes!

Thursday and Friday look glorious, with slightly more cloud cover and a stronger breeze keeping temperatures a couple of degrees lower on Friday. Maximum temperature on Thursday will be 21-23 C, with 19-21 C likely on Friday. Don't forget to pack the sun cream! Any breeze on Thursday, Friday and Saturday should be easterly, encouraged by the vicinity to the coast and the on-shore breeze. Pitching your tent facing east will keep your tent cooler!

Overnight minimum temperatures are likely to be around 13 C on Thursday night. Late night partiers on Thursday or early risers on Friday could get damp feet as temperatures will fall close to the dew point, possibly exacerbated by the presence of the lake. Temperatures should be kept slightly warmer on Friday night, by the same cloud which will keep it slightly cooler during the day, at around 15 C.

Saturday morning is likely to start cloudy, with the risk of some light showers. A bit of a stronger breeze and the lack of direct sunshine make this a good morning to sleep off a hangover in the tent after that first proper night of partying since before anyone had heard of r numbers. Top temperatures should be 20-22 C, depending on how much the cloud breaks. There is a risk of heavier showers later in the afternoon and evening. These are more likely to form slightly further inland, but that's not to say they won't form or move over the festival. Definitely a day to carry your waterproofs! (not an umbrella though, unless you want to be hated by everybody stood behind you at Rudimental).

Saturday night should be dry once any lingering storms clear and temperatures should be a warm 16 C.

Sunday morning will feel different as the wind will have veered to the south, portending what looks to be the most unsettled weather of the weekend. If you camped facing, east your tent entrance should provide some shelter from the elements at this point. Before heading down early to catch Bill Bailey, make sure everything is well pegged down as storms could cause strong gusts from any direction and with little warning. It might also be a boots on day, with waterproofs close at hand. There is a fair likelihood of heavy, thundery downpours on Sunday morning and into the afternoon, but these are likely to weaken and clear later in the day, hopefully in plenty of time for one big party with the Sunday headliners. Top temperatures on Sunday should be 19-20 C. Fortunately, the worst weather happening towards the end of the festival should keep any mud to a minimum.

Overnight temperatures on Sunday will likely be around 13-14 C, again with a strong likelihood of dew and dampness underfoot. Monday morning may also be a little damp to begin with, so tents might have to be dried out in the living room!

See you in the fields tomorrow!!!

  6. Does anyone think there might be a slightly extended program on the Thursday this year?

Green Man seem to have slightly more acts on Thursday this time (although stage times tbc) and with the earlier opening it seems possible for EotR to do similar.

Its actually a new area, I think it's replacing the TV and Film arena but is essentially showing the same sort of thing

The lineup poster has ASG specified to be a DJ set so I’m assuming the others are live.

    Cheers both.

There don't appear to be any gaps between the three, so that would suggest and Ash Kenazi is likely DJ/pre-recorded stuff, Pozi live in the middle (surely there wouldn't be any value in getting such an act to DJ rather than play live?) and then ASG DJ as the brave man said!

Either way, there's not a lot else on at that time by the look of it s I'll probably be there regardless!

  8. Can any regulars enlighten me to what the Ballroom stage is, please?

The Friday line-up after midnight in particular looks decent - Ash Kenazi > Pozi > Art School Girlfriend. Is this just going to be DJ sets/videos or are the acts going to be playing?!

  9. My must sees are always people I've never seen or haven't seen in ages, rather than my absolute favourites who I tend to have tickets for anyway.

Based on that, this festival doesn't have many! I'll go with Willie J Healey, Tim Burgess and Joe Armon-Jones/Arlo Parks (*clash*).

My favourite acts on the bill, who I'll also try to catch most of are probably: PVA, Squid, Dry Cleaning, Sinead O'Brien, Anna Meredith, Just Mustard, bdrrm and Sons of Kemet.

blimey I didnt know we knew so many times already. Time for someone to start a clashfinder me thinks....

Definitely! I thought about starting one on Saturday, but realised that I had no idea what I was doing! 😂

Just as a heads up: The BBC weather forecast for Blythburgh (the nearby village) is showing 'Thundery Showers' from Saturday evening through most of Sunday. https://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2655312

    Make sure you pack appropriately.

I wouldn't trust a location-based forecast this far out (if at all), but taking having decent waterproofs and boots is always good advice!

Regarding the weather, I'll probably end up doing a forecast in the next couple of days (I trained as a meteorologist), so will no doubt end up sharing here just in case anybody is interested in that.

Black Country, New Road really hope there on the garden stage , what you guys think

Garden stage is an interesting call! Definitely possible, but I think I'd edge towards Big Top.

Love BC,NR. Probably my favourite live band in the world (maybe tied by Porridge Radio) over the past 2/3 years, so at long as they're there somewhere I'll be happy!

Oh of course, couldn't give a fiddlers fart if if someone feels the need. Folk were talking mandated mask wearing tho

Yeah, that was me thinking out loud about the options festivals might be considering. I'd prefer if they didn't make them mandatory in tents (likely to cause resentments and arguments anyway when people invariably don't) and don't think they will, but it wouldn't stop me attending if they did.

I do, however, agree with you on tests specifically on entry to site being a non-starter given travel, but again I don't think they'd take that specific option either. Again, because it leaves too much potential for wasted time, money and effort and therefore resentment/confrontation which they'll want to avoid on site. Any tests would surely be pre-travel (again though, that's still late in the day to find out you can't go and why I'd be in favour of a double vax option too).

I hope we get more info from them soon, so we can all get back to talking about the bands we're excited about, but clearly this is important to a fair few people for different reasons.

  14. I think that nicely sums up the array of views festivals will have to balance.

Total freedom (what most of traditionally seek in a festival) vs peace of mind (a lot more important to many now for a variety of reasons). Wherever each event ends up on that spectrum, they'll frustrate some people.

It seems as if they're all being left to plan their own measures (for now), so we could see big differences between events (which makes sense to some degree as crowds are different). Intrigued to see what GM say today as that might have some bearing on EotR.

If you test positive before the event you should be more pleased you didn’t get to infect a tonne of people, than pissed off you don’t get in.

Being vaccinated is a risk reducer and being tested is as well. I think it’s perfectly understandable if they ask for both given the situation.

Of course on point 1. Not sure if you're replying to me there, but that goes without saying (At least I thought it did!). My point was around the uncertainties of booking time off / paying for trains and of course the anticipation building up to the event, which is a huge part of it for a lot of people. Knowing it could all be called off the day before is going to make the build up an incredibly stressful period, rather than an enjoyable one. Right now, that extra apprehension makes other options more appealing from a mental health perspective.

Intrigued as to which way various events go. Maybe this is something we'll have to get used to for the long haul.

  16. I think I'm more apprehensive about the possibility of bring turned away for testing positive than I am about catching the virus at the festival. I'm not saying they shouldn't test, but two vaccinations should be an alternative (I know you can have two vaccinations and get covid, but you can also pass a test and have/develop it). I got double vaxxed before the Latitude 'test event' for that reason, so that it wasn't a worry. My anxiety is through the roof with the uncertainties currently and plans having to change constantly and the thought of being turned away from one of my favourite places is almost enough to consider not even trying to go.

On the other hand, if they implemented compulsory masks in tented stages then I wouldn't have a problem with that at all.

I think everyone who goes is acknowledging there's a risk, and probably a higher one than we'd like, but the positives clearly outweigh this for the majority of us. Tough decisions to be made all round really as it's affected/ing everybody differently and people will be uncomfortable for different reasons.

  17. Has anyone ever cycled to the festival? Considering that as an option, probably after getting the train to Halesworth on the way, and then exploring the coast afterwards on the way back to Ipswich or beyond. Done that train/bike combo to Dutch festivals before, but that's obviously much easier/safer over there.

The roads around site look quite treacherous and the 'not suitable for walking' on the website is a little offputting. Any first hand experience would be post welcome. Also, what's the bike storage like?

Can anyone recommend acts for a dance; Lynks, Hot Chip, Chems, anything else?

Not really my area of knowledge, but PVA would definitely be one. Slightly different, but Sons of Kemet and Anna Meredith are both great live for getting moving too.

Quick Spotify playlist of the BBC Introducing lineup:

Not got the time (or the inclination) to investigate these acts, this is just their 5 most popular tracks (with the odd tweak to remove remixes etc).

Cheers for this! Had a listen through this afternoon.

Highlights for me are Ishmael Ensemble, Joseph Lawrence, Bleach Lab and Before Breakfast, with a maybe on BEKA, Hemai, Strawberry Lace and TAAHLIAH.

Looks like Covid passports for businesses and large events might be back on the cards, according to Javid's announcement to MP's just now. The difference is that this is now an advisory rather than a legal requirement. I kind of hope EOTR do choose to use it as an extra precaution, it could reduce some anxiety for people.

Personally I don't mind either way as long as being vaccinated definitely counts (I got my second after 30 days to avoid this with the Latitude test event). Having to get a negative test such a short period before would throw me into panic to the point where I'm not sure the whole thing would be worth it. I'm also more anxious about being in crowds of people again than if they have the virus.

EotR did ask for T&T details a few weeks back, so they might already be prepared for this.
