The plain truth is that there is an overwhelming majority of males in rock bands compared to females in rock bands. The reasons why that is the case don't matter. because there's clearly more men in rock bands therefore there's always going to be a lot more males than females at r+l.

Simple conclusion : if there's a higher percentage of men in rock overall , there will be higher percentage of male acts at r+l.

There are some good female artists as many of you have listed but there also many more good male artists because there are more male artists involved on the whole . Irrespective of everything and any stereotypes or reasons why there are more men, the probability of booking a male artist is considerably higher . It doesn't matter whether theyre male or female as long as they're good when FR are booking them.

Why have I run out of up votes. Completely agree the thing is though if it was the other way round and the line-ups were female dominant you wouldn't get a single person complaining.

but why would a guy want to be drummer more than a girl? that's the point. Remove all stereotypes and encouragement and there's no reason why one gender should want to be a drummer more than the other.

Agree it is down to stereotypes you should be confident to do what you want no matter what gender you are. I personally don't care if a band has female members or not. If they make good music then that's all that matters. Leeds 2015 one of the best acts I saw that weekend was Baby Metal (3 female members). I saw Good Charlotte in rock city and Against The Current supported them (female fronted) and they were great.

I highly doubt that's the case. I reckon your typical 30 year old parents with a young child would still be more likely to encourage a son to take up drumming than a daughter.

That's because there's a perception that big rockstars are men. Major festivals such as R&L are in one of the best positions to try to begin to address that balance.

If nobody tries to do anything then nothing's going to change. In 50 years there'll still only be one or two suitable R&L headliners with female members and we'll still have awful all-male acts near the top of lineups, whilst supremely talented female rock musicians will have been wasted by not being given encouragement to pursue their dream of being a rockstar or given opportunities to showcase that talent.

I think it would more likely be down to a guy wanting to be a drummer more than a girl not down to encouragement of parents. There is loads of decent female fronted bands and bands with female members out there but I feel this whole situation has been blown completely out of proportion.

Just come up with this pretty quickly.

Friday: Paramore, Chvrches, Wolf Alice, Babymetal, PVRIS, Tonight Alive, Gogol Bordello, The Big Moon, Milk Teeth
Saturday: Arcade Fire, The xx, Lorde, HAIM, Metronomy, Creeper, Alvvays, Pale Waves, YONAKA
Sunday: Florence & the Machine, Dua Lipa, Faithless, M.I.A., Warpaint, Marmozets, Fickle Friends, Black Honey, Anteros

Haven't checked that all of those are definitely touring around R&L, but I'm pretty sure most of them would be available. I know that's only the main stage but I could go on. They could easily fill the lineup with more female acts if they wanted - IMO a main stage like that would be better than anything we're likely to get. Yes it's probably lacking in certain genres but really it could be a lot more representative than it has been in recent years. It's nothing to do with ticking boxes.

Don't forget the secret set from Lily Allen

I really like feeder but their uk tour doesn't look to be selling too well - but I reckon it could work if they headline a smaller stage against Kendrick/Royal blood And whoever they coheadline with. Some of the rock fans - myself included - would probably go and see them over Kendrick.

I’m seeing them at Rock City and that sold out pretty quick. They’re not as big as they once were but agreed if they went up against the likes of Kendrick then they’d get a pretty decent crowd me being one of them

New album coming this year as well. I know they played last year but I'd be surprised if they didn't play again.

They won't be there this year they're over in Mexico over the weekend but could see them in 2019 high up the NME or even headline the FR tent.

  7. Against the current would be a band to look out for. Not this year as they’re over in America but I saw them when they supported Good Charlotte last year and they were pretty good plus they are supporting FOB this year (if that can be considered a good thing) and they are female fronted so it will keep all the haters quiet.

Maybe. Would be sly as hell. “We’ve signed up three headliners and need to fit another one in but we can’t make any coheadliners. I know...”

I know it would by sly just was wondering. Make the two coheadliners headline the second stage outright and make space for Arctics.

  9. Hi everyone, finally decided to make an account after reading these forums for years but never posting anything. If the two stages rumour is correct and so is Arctic Monkeys could they both be connected? Maybe they had the headliners already booked but then AM returning and Festival Republic knowing that Glastonbury would get them next year they decided on a second main stage. Therefore keeping the current headliners happy but also getting AM. I'm probably overthinking it but just an idea.
