That's really kind...but all those artists, as excellent as I am sure they are, are not really my thing!

I'm very much a techno/electro/breaks/glitchy person, but I also adore really good psytrance and I've had some phenomenal nights at the Glade Lounge and Dome!

But, hey, there is masses of stuff everywhere, and I won't go wanting. Just that The Glade has always had a prog/psych vibe to it and whilst evolution is excellent, I can't help but worry that the site overall will become to homogenised if it's not careful. I've seen that at many other festivals over the years.

Still, Block9, Arcadia, The Common and the revitalised Silver Hayes all still to come!

    🙌🏼

    Ben

No worries, totally understood! From what you've described it sounds like you and I might have similar taste 🙂 roll on Block9.

I agree there is a distinct lack of the acts you'd usually find on Glade this year. Is there a chance that they might put more of the traditional psytrance acts on one of the other stages? Spike Bar maybe? Can't recall now if they usually get their own line up.

Now you know that I'm not a negative Nora, but I've been through the entire Glade Dome line-up and it would appear that Glastonbury no longer wants to have any psytrance at the festival 😭. Originally on the Thursday night in Glade Lounge, and more recently Sunday night in the Dome, it is one of the things I look forward to the most. The crowds are invariably fantastic, as everyone has made a purposeful beeline to that specific genre.

I'm a little bit sad, team. There appears to be masses of DnB on the Glade Dome line-up, and isn't it represented in spades elsewhere around the festival? I really feel that there are genres that are neglected in a festival of this size. Of course, it will come down to popularity amongst the masses, I'm sure, but still...

Anyway, I won't sulk (I might for a little bit, but then I'll be ok!). For me, only really The Orb, Avery and Effy calling to me right now, but I'll do my customary obsessive homework and we'll see! Block9, I really need you to come through this year 🤪.

    Ben

It does definitely feel like they've shaken up their offering this year. On a personal level it's good for me as it's unlikely I'd go and see psytrance, however I completely understand where you're coming from. Feels like a bit of a progression of the Glade's identity perhaps?

I'm not sure what your go-to dance music would be, but I'd strongly recommend checking out Shy One for an incredibly eclectic vinyl collection, and for fun housey vibes on Dome there's Demi Requismo, Gene on Earth, Laidlaw and Yemz which might be worth a listen  🙂

See also Wodda for big wobbly 140 and baseline.

Best since i've been going! Also the implications for other stages like Daniel Avery's instagram post which is teasing me... are we getting my dream B2B with HAAi on Genosys...?

Completely agree! I don't often end up seeing much on Glade but there is a lot on there I'd be very tempted to go to.

Agree with others on here saying that this will hopefully pull crowds away from SEC, and will definitely be tempting for me as an alternative! The last few years we've ended up worshiping at the head (IICON) more than I'd have perhaps liked just because it's massive and you get lots of room.

  4. That's an absolute corker. Lots of big names but a lot of seriously great talent further down the bill. Love Remain will be amazing, as will Shy One and Logic1000. I could be spending a lot more time at the Glade this year than usual!

Interesting, wonder if there was any pressure to open a stage up to everyone to (slightly) ease up crowds in places?

Just wonder if Emily had any power to say, close it down or open it up?

My gut instinct is that it's probably due to the ongoing conversation about gender - maybe there were issues with 'proving' your gender identity if you present very masculine perhaps? Or perhaps it's also a move towards encouraging allyship? As you say though, it could also ease congestion and have logistical benefits too.

Sherelle set sounds brilliant but I’m a bloke so obvs can’t go. Fingers crossed she does another set over the weekend 🤞

It's open to all! 🙂 but I'm sure she will do another set anyway.

I'd do something which you can *only* do at Glastonbury - catch a huge, iconic performance on El Pointo.

Issue with the 2024 line up is that there aren't many obvious contenders. Dua, Shania maybe the best bets. Coldplay are too frequent a proposition to really qualify.

Throwing a pot, eating a halloumi cone, grooving to Mik Artistik, checking out the comedy stylings of the Steve Frost Impro Allstars - you can do elsewhere.

Excuse me, please, halloumi cone?! This will be my 6th Glasto and I’ve never seen them! Where do you get these from? I need one immediately 😂

I’d imagine so. I’d be surprised if the SE Corner doesn’t have a significant refresh this year, especially after all the ‘everything must go’ stuff last year.

Yes that's a good point and I think the area needs a re-think. I hope there's a return to some more of the micro venues. I'm not sure if it's just me but they've felt lacking in the last few years in favour of the bigger stages. Apparently the original Genosys stage arrangement is coming back but I can't remember where I heard that, might have been on one of Gideon's radio shows

Isn't the average age now 39? Pretty sure I read that somewhere.

Of our usual group of around 30+ people we have at least 6 who went this year but aren't trying for 2024 tickets for various reasons with a few more still to confirm. However, we already have 2 who haven't been involved since 2019 back in and a request to add a few more.

Ah yeah it might well be! I was only really mentioning it as we've got a big group of diehard festival goers and so far have had at least 7 drop out

  10. Anecdotally we've already had quite a few of our large group that go every year drop out this time due to the price. I totally understand of course but I think it's worth noting that we're all late 20s/early 30s no kids, so arguably the main demographic of glasto-goers these days?  Will be interesting to see if this is reflected in the wider ticket-trying population...

  11. Apologies if this has already been covered, but do we have any best guesses for where Skream's 'magic dinosaur' stage is? I'm stumped, maybe it's a new thing this year.

Also, see you guys at the secret Friday rave!

We move on to the 12Z. Can we recover from the shock of the last run?

    GATES OPENING

Still quite a lot of rain on Sunday, which is definitely becoming a theme as the timeframe gets more reliable.

On this run there is more rain in the early hours of Tuesday, and some very light stuff during the day. Again, a consistent theme.

But Monday temps of 22 will clear up the Sunday rain, with decent temps of 19 on Tuesday.

For Wednesday at 9am, it's dry (having been since early evening the night before) and really quite warm at 18.

    image.thumb.png.e2b45c17fd88fe5d42e9b9a87354adbd.png

We had a troublesome green pocked of low pressure in the last run (left) and while it is present on this run (right) it's much further north before it's pushed away.

    image.thumb.png.201dc8427a5e4d3485b274c81d247190.png

It means Wednesday is essentially dry - the rain showing on this chart is nothing. Highs of 20.

    image.thumb.png.17dfb87e2614c117866c9f683690764c.png

    THURSDAY

Completely dry with highs of 22.

    image.thumb.png.48707d0c6ef219739538257092264cdc.png

    FRIDAY

There's a very small amount of rain around in the early hours of Friday, with the day itself completely dry with highs of 24.

    image.thumb.png.dfde88b46fc0724f7b7b964077f12dfd.png

    SATURDAY

Another completely dry day, with highs of 21.

    image.thumb.png.e7dc04197db5aaaaf8e262b02ec486b9.png

    SUNDAY

Another completely dry day, with highs of 21.

    SUMMARY

We are back to an exceptional run to recover from the last horror.

Any rain in this run for the festival days would be completely insignificant, with warm temperatures throughout.

    COME ON!

But there remains uncertainty about what exactly will happen from Thursday onwards. We don't have it in the can yet.....

    Oh god...stick!!

Where is the progressive house and breaks in all this???? Severely lacking unless there are some DJs I'm not familar with. Pretty Girl and Ben Bohmer aside on the house side I suppose.

Loads of people playing breaks at the moment so even if an artist isn't necessarily known for playing breaks and garage there's a high chance they'll play that kind of thing because it's popular at the moment. You'll defo find breaks on that line up though, check out the label EC2A - they're doing a takeover on firmly rooted

I'll admit that when SH drops I know roughly one name - Fatboy Slim. Who is ace btw, saw him headline Sziget back in 2009. But the rest is always a bit overwhelming, not sure where to start etc.

Is YouTube a better medium for listening because you get whole sets? Or Spotify and just listen to random songs?

I've just added about a hundred songs to my queue on Spotters from mentions in this thread, really liking Ben Bohmer so far.

I'm really glad for fans of the music SH puts on that the line-up seems to be so positively received this year as opposed the last few years - I've been on these boards for a while and SH always came up as an area needing a revamp, despite it only being a decade old anyway.

As someone else said Soundcloud is great for listening to full sets 🙂 Because not all DJs are producers they won't always have their own music or songs to listen to so Spotify likely not your best bet. A lot of DJs will have radio shows though which is a good place to start, and those will be posted on soundcloud. Not sure what kind of thing you're after but the Hessle Audio trio (Ben UFO, Pangaea and Pearson Sound) will all have loads of sets on Soundcloud for example. Amaliah has a really good radio show on Rinse Fm.

If you let me know the kind of thing you like (house, techno, garage etc.) I'd be more than happy to suggest some things off the line up that you might like!

  15. There are so many acts I want to see on that lineup that I am in danger of spending my entire weekend in SH which would be a first. Really hope they revamp the area somwhat - anyone have any inside info on Levels?

  16. 1 minute ago, stuie said:

If you think SH is poor then you don’t follow those genres.  Avalon was always going to be lower key after the problems of previous years and the council warning.

I was gonna say, I think Silver Hayes is stellar this year! I think they've paid attention to names on the up in the industry and a good diverse range of acts. But I digress! Not a huge amount on Avalon for me but there often isn't...band recs welcome for listening this rainy Friday!

I’ve done the see coaches a few times and the problem is from the O2 you will just get stuck in traffic for the first hour especially at that time. I just checked and in 2019 we were on the 6am Wednesday and the first photo I have which is post tent set up first beer in hand by the tent (as always) was 13.51. Obviously on the Thursday you will have no queue to get in and minimal traffic around the site

Agh thanks for the info...this is what I was afraid of. There's literally nothing we can do about it I suppose, will just have to hope someone sets our tent up for us and then hit the ground running when we get to the fest. Leaving at 5am might mean that we miss some of the london rush hour I guess.

God I can almost taste that first beer... bliss!

Were the coaches fairly well organized when you got them last time? E.g. was it prompt to leave etc?

Yeah exactly - that first paragraph is what I want! I don't drive mind you haha.

Been lucky to get 8am london wednesday coach both years, think i'd be a lot less happy if i was on one that arrives later!

Ooh can I ask what time you arrived on site with an 8am coach from London? Got a 5am coach from London on Thursday but am pranging out about missing a whole 1.5 days of the festival (not that there's anything I can do about it and it could have been much much worse!)

Have you tried contacting the individual areas/stages directly via social media? Whilst not DJs, that's how my mates' band have got gigs in the past.

Yes thanks, have been sending out a few feelers so will see if anything comes back 🙂 I think the smaller venues don't always have their own socials but have pinged a message to the bigger ones just in case! Gotta be in it to win it I guess haha
