And why do you want Shawn Mendes at Pukkelpop? :D

Because just like Post Malone, Dua Lipa or Harry Styles he'd be a big get for the younger audience and some refreshing pop act. I mean in 2014 we had Ed Sheeran subbing?

Who do you think attracts bigger crowds in Belgium: Bazart + Oscar & The Wolf, or Lana Del Rey + Shawn Mendes? ?

After all, it is a festival in BELGIUM you know.

Well.. They've already given a prime spot to Charlotte De Witte in the Boiler, one to Goose in the Dancehall, Trixie Withley and Amenra get big spots in the Marquee and then I'm not mentioning Tamino, Bazart, Oscar & The Wolf, J. Bernardt or Tourist Lemc.. Most of these artists are already easy to see during the year in smaller clubs or concert halls and I'd rather see something like The War On Drugs, Lana Del Rey or Shawn Mendes sub then some overhyped Belgian band lol.

It comes very cheap over tbh, not only nationally but also in wider scheme of things.

Metallica said they will do a stadium tour. If they are going to perform at Werchter, it will be Werchter Boutique or Werchter Classic, not Rock Werchter, I guess.

Or ya know.. King Baudouin Stadium :p

Clearly a money saving exercise to me. The cynical part of me thinks that there was never any intention to book someone for that spot in the first place.

Pity as you say they've now wasted what could have been a good spot.

If you could've booked Lana Del Rey or Shawn Mendes (who are playing Sziget) or you can choose Bazart and Oscar & The Wolf for a way lower booking fee.. I'm not suggesting that they were on the watch list for PKP but I think we can all agree that certain bookings are just odd and could've been replaced by international names.. Idk what they were thinking this year after they've done so well last year tho.

Every single thing or change they've done compared to last year is to either save money or to gain extra money.

I was thinking of going for 1 day (Thursday) but honestly they deserve a shite year.

I am so glad I skipped AM and decided to see AIC instead. While there were major sound issues at the show (cause let's face it Koko stage was shit) both the performance AND the audience were so good that I forgot about the sound issues. Top notch performance.

Heard them while seeing James Holden which was kind of a bummer. Radio Station had a lot of soundbleed coming from KOKO tho (heard Real Estate while The White Buffalo was playing and you could see on Sampha's face that he was genuinely annoyed at something, idk what but it could've been the soundbleed coming from Jack White). Poorly placed imo.

No logic in this at all and The Barn looks too strong but just something I would love to see!

That Barn line up would look good in the UK but a bit wack in Belgium. Pendulum and C&S aren't that popular anymore. TOP is a likely sub candidate at this point and Biffy Clyro haven't really grown, could maybe fit in the Steven Wilson spot from this year.

  7. Soulwax got announced for a gig at Lokerse Feesten, I think they're pretty much out. In the previous years they used to announce some names right after or even during Rock Werchter, now that that's not happening I can't really imagine those last few names being of the bill of RW because they would've been announced by now right?

To the right of the Loop was a total mess. Worse than yer wine bar.

My friend queued 45 mins there lol. My worst ones were at the end of the KOKO and in the Thunderbitch/Mondosonoro. Like said above, they just worked at their own slow pace.

    - The English lads in the pit for Arctic Monkeys, chanting football chants in between songs is annoying but totally forgivable, however doing that and not singing a single Arctic Monkeys song and then urinating in their empty beer glasses and throwing them into the pit... what is wrong with these morons? Why can't they be pleasant, why can't they have a laugh?

Oh my god, I had the exact same experience and they were total asses during Nick Cave aswell when saying they should keep their mouth shut they started with some slurs.

Mad Cool Festival is going to have a Warm-Up Party on 11th July 20:30. MGMT will perform. They will have 500 tickets available today at 14:30 at this link https://shops.ticketmasterpartners.com/mad-cool-festival/

A warning though it is at the same time with Sweden/England vs Russia/Croatia semi final which starts at 20:00.

Kinda sad they announced it so late, watching MGMT in a 500 cap venue must be cool. We're arriving the 12th so yeah.

  11. I think they should give up on this easy and cheap selling strategy. It creates an audience that's only going there for a few names and not the whole thing/experience and will jump from the one hype to the next one which isn't vital at all. PKP used to be a place to discover new bands and rave in the Boiler till dawn, now it's a place to get hyped for Dua Lipa and the purely LN-marketed Belgian bands (Oscar & The Wolf and Bazart). Go out and ask a 100 people there why they're coming and I'm willing to bet you that most of them are just going to call out Imagine Dragons, Dua Lipa and other radio folks whilst the beauty of this always layed in the smaller alternative names. It's a giant snowball effect.

Just noticed that 2manyDJs are playing Pacha in Ibiza on the Saturday, pretty much rules them out for Despacio as they normally spread it over the whole weekends of festivals. Could happen I suppose with a private jet and an early finish on the Saturday for them or with some guest DJ's instead but can't see it tbh.

I don't think they have to be there all weekend I think. I think they played somewhere else aswell when they did DESPACIO at Sonar.

They have posted several public transportation options to the website and probably update them if the hours of operation changes: https://madcoolfestival.es/en/transports.php

Yeah, I know but none of them (other than their buses) run through the night. If I wanna leave at let's say 3 am, I got the option to walk back lol, to take a cab back or take a bus from them and that's it. You see? That tram 8 line runs from 6:30 am till 1:30 am, so not the whole day and night. Hopefully they will tho..

Sadly no. It seems that the former announcement was premature.

Well, would love to know if there are some more updates on possible transportation because if the only thing of transportation from their side is gonna be buses to the city center for 80k people than they're seriously lacking.

Anyone been to this before? Wondering if it is one that would be worth doing solo.

Never been to but heard some stories that it wasn't that wow as to how it looks on the poster. Set times are on the short side and the people seem to be very talkative which are two bummers for me atleast. The price seems fine and all but I'd rather see someone like Bon Iver in a nice theatre or arena with a dedicated crowd, but that's just me I guess. Sightseeing in Paris during the day and in the evening checking some bands out seems like a nice weekend nonetheless tho.

  16. So we're sure tram 8 is going all night right? Because they said in an article a few months ago that they'd do that but I think last week they said in another article that they're still working on that with the city?? So I'm pretty confused rn.

@arcuse - Just checked the website and Justice look like they are closing the Marquee which is only right. The order of the names on the website by stage have changed a couple of times but I'd be amazed if they were anything but closers. That's gonna be one of the sets of the weekend for me. Can possibly see a fairly big name before or after Roisin Murphy. Then there's the two normally back to back slots they have to close off the Castello which are normally very good names.

Yup, the names have been changed a lot on the website, these are still how they were placed on the website when the new names got announced (so two batches ago). The Vitalic-Justice conflict seems stupid aswell imo, seems only logical that they close the Marquee.

I've seen a lot of posters popping up. I don't know if we can expect a lot more tbh. Some names from RW that's for sure, but how big they're gonna be, that idk.

2016 still had Wablief? and Shelter as already mentioned. I'm curious if they're gonna change something next year because I feel like this year has been a big hell in sales for PKP.

  18. Anyone who has been there last year who can tell me how the crowds are? Can you get to the front really easy or are there a lot of people caming all the time? Last year, I went to NOS and it was fairly easy to get up front to the smaller stages. Speaking of, how big are the smaller stages/tents exactly? Around 2/5k capacity?
