  1. not enough women on the line up for wireless i'm afraid. 3 is piss poor. festivals need to make an active effort to book bands from all walks of life. people of colour, male, female, gay, straight, etc etc.

lets not argue over whether it's about the music or not, we all know half the demographic don't go to reading for that.

This has probably already been said, but it’s 303 pages to look back through...do we know the reason why reading and leeds are announcing acts so late this year? obviously we usually get an announcement early December and the wait i originally assumed was because of arctic monkeys, but if they’re not playing (which has been the main suggestion that it’d be foos instead) then what’s with the wait?

    new PR company

Edit: and no glastonbury maybe? i'm unsure why the wait but the new PR company is probably the reason.

What’s the likelihood of Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds doing R&L? He’s already booked for Neighbourhood and he’s got a tour during May.

doubt it. the boring brother wouldn't go down anywhere near as well as liam gallagher last year. (although i wasn't there for it personally so idk what the feel on the ground was)

Interesting how people on here think their stock has fallen that much- it was a massive deal when they played in 2010 and they headlined in 2015, not exactly that long ago! I guess the novelty has worn off. They would be a cracking NME headliner imo

they would absolutely smash an NME headline slot. That's the stuff dreams are made of.

A name that's not been mentioned at all really is alt-j. Looking at their tour dates they're definitely gonna be doing European festivals next summer, but so far they've not been announced anywhere in the UK. I know that before the release of Relaxer some people had them as potential coheadliners, but since the album flopped a bit they've dropped off of peoples predictions.

I personally think they might be headlining Parklife along with Gorillaz, but if not I can't think of many other UK fests they might play. Are they still a possibility for R&L? And if so, where would they play? Would they be a pretty underwhelming coheadline with Royal Blood? Would they sub? Don't think that's as likely as they subbed last time they played in 2015. Or as a result of Relaxer could they be NME headliners?

Personally, I don't think it's out of the question for them to be coheadliners with Royal Blood. Sort of shocking booking R&L would make that not many people could foresee. Also if the other headliners are Foos and Kendrick, it would make sense to have two British bands coheadline. Although that might just be looking into things too much.

    Thoughts?

could defo see them co-headline w/ RB. two v different set of headliners. not sure if they compliment eac other as well as bands like foals/disclosure or QOTSA/paramore. but think it is a definite possibility.

Don't think they'll two consecutive years but I do think they'll go straight to a high main spot in 2018 - possibly the borderline third/fourth down slot on a co headline day, enough to get a logo and enough to have us arguing about whether they were really third or fourth.

They clearly have a good relationship with LN/FR, which isn't in itself enough for them to waste a high spot on them but they wouldn't be completely out of place and LN/FR would rather take the risk on them than many other bands.

They got a huge crowd in the NME (at Leeds at least) in 2016 and not all of that crowd was there to see Twenty One Pilots.

I'm not flying a flag for them btw, just think it's inevitable.

they are absolutely destroying it with this resurgence at the moment. I am not entirely sure where it has come from considering we probably thought they were dead and buried back in 2014/2015.

It is quite cool to see it, and gives me faith that with a little help many decent bands can claw their way out of the impending doom that is the music industry.

They were playing above Wombats at festivals this year. If they're any lower than that I don't suppose they'd play at all. Why would they when they're enough of a name to get a better billing at smaller festivals?

they've played most smaller festivals over the past couple years. Wombat's played under them at a lot of festivals, i can definitely see where you're coming from but Franz Ferdinand are a big pull to smaller festivals, but aren't to larger ones, it's the complete opposite for Wombats.

Wombats were going that way but have seen a resurgence into the mainstream. Franz Ferdinand have not. They are a novelty act and therefore would probably headline the Festival Republic stage where many go if they dislike the headliner and nme headliner.

Edit: they would probably play against Kendrick.

    Maybe but so's Enter Shikari.

I am not entirely sure that is true.

who are people thinking? last year was definitely a scale increase.

Was my third year last year and I can say with certainty it has gone from a local festival to an arena festival. Was impressed.

Maybe it was the mud, but the whole festival felt utterly different to past years, however they still retained what made it good. the local congregation are the main suppliers of food, the various stalls of vintage gear was run excellently.

They definitely did struggle a little with the increase, especially on the arrival day. queued for up to 2 n half hours. I have no doubt they will be better prepared this year however.

It had a very good, strong line-up that catered towards their clientele and you'd hope they would come back this year even stronger. Saying that I really have absolutely no idea who is going to headline. Someone like Blossoms could definitely play. i think the booking team enjoy promoting bands who haven't headlined many festivals before but are on the up (e.g. CATB in 2016)

Could only see HAIM possibly getting there out of these lot. These are the type of acts that would be perfect to headline the NME tent but wouldn't go down too well being higher than 3rd main.

The disaster that was the release of their second album surely makes them obsolete from getting anywhere above 3rd down main I think.

All the bands that I have classed 'Don't count on it' are there because we are talking about headliners here. Not Sub, not NME, not FR. Straight headliners.

  10. I think you are all probably being a little too ... ambitious.

Dead certs - the 1975, Kendrick, Royal Blood

Probably - Tame, Chvrches, Bring me the Horizon, Florence, BBK/skepta, Stormzy (grime in general)

couple banger album's time - Catfish, Wolf Alice, Blossoms, ASAP ROCKY

Don't count on it - The Wombats, TDCC, Circa Waves, HAIM, Glass Animals

    no - The Hunna
