I think the missing names must be for next month, honestly the director of this festival likes to announce names late... he is the same director of the Vilar de Mouros Festival which is also in August and only has 1 name announced. It takes a long time to announce names.

Last year it was 19th June for Blur etc., so we might be waiting more than two months 😕

Think there's still some decent-sized acts to be announced for the final day? Admittedly not down with the kids I've only heard of Soulwax and Yard Act on the Saturday

Yves Tumor is worth checking out - hipster/pitchfork friendly, but heavily influenced by 90s indie shoegaze/US alternative.

I'd assume there's maybe another dozen bands across the three days, to match last year. You'd hope someone big and less poppy for that last day in particular.

Kalorama's director is the same as Vilar de Mouros and hiring Prodigy for both festivals probably had a special price.

I heard a director on a podcast saying that Dua Lipa was 1 million, two concerts 1 million and a half

I think things have been heading that way for a while. I think I saw something with Live Nation where they said they want to sign up artists for festival "tours". I imagine that's much cheaper - probably for both parties.

Don't the Kalorama people do BBK and Casa Mijas too? They've certainly have a lot of crossover and with BBK I wonder if they're able to do deals for one year's BBK at the same time as the following year's Kalorama.

Fred Again is also around and is doing Reading and Rock en Seine

Not at Primavera Porto though- although Prodigy were added late as a headline name last year and neither were they.

The theory is that Blur/Nick Cave were added the last two years after Primavera Porto - possibly because they had deals where they couldn't be announced at other Portuguese festivals till that one had gone ahead.

I dont know anything but i think it is clear that there is a headliner missing there. In the 2 editions of kalorama that have happened there was a headliner only announced in june that came from primavera

Interesting. I'd have thought that Sunday looks a more likely spot for a late announcement.

The spread of acts seems a bit off to me - I know a lot of festivals try to push day tickets with similar artists, but they were selling months of three day tickets on the back of a first poster, that is almost entirely made up of the first two days acts.

Lineup updated, looking really good. There is still a headliner missing on the 30th of august, probably only will be announced after primavera sound

    Screenshot_20240403_191514_Instagram.jpg

Is that a guess about the headliner for the 30th, or do you know something?

On the 30th? Seriously? I mean, LCD, The Smile, Jungle and TPS/DCFC are not headliners enough?

Yeah - If it's Justice, surely they would balance that poster out by appearing Sunday.

    Saturday seems like overkill.

Roughly, how many more acts are to be announced? About 20-30?

More, if it matches last year.

There were 63, so that's potentially another 45 left (assuming Death Cab and the Postal Service are counted separately).

16 of those were elecronic/dj acts on the Panorama stage, and not sure if anyone other than Overmono might fit that description from the 18 announced so far.

The biggest thing I’ve taken from that is that they’re listed as playing Cala Mijas, so I wonder if they’re planning on actually going ahead this year

I thought the Cala Mijas story was that they want to go ahead, but are having issues with the site/licensing/local politics?

Whatever is happening, they'd have to provisionally book bands, and I don't think The Smile are bothered enough to put at asterisk next to the date 🙂

Nick Cave performed at Primavera Porto in 2022 and in 2023, Blur did too, and both were announced in June at Kalorama.

The Prodigy were not at Primavera but could be a late booking.

That being said, there is no connection between the organizers of both festivals, so it's uncertain if this year will be the same.

I don't think the connection has to be with the organizers. If anything it would probably be part of the band's deal with Primavera Porto because they don't want to lose ticket sales to another festival.

If a band is playing Primavera in Porto and Barcelona it is likely a bigger deal, so they'd have more power to ask them not to announce other festivals that might compete for sales.

Usually, the June announcement is shared with other festivals such as Primavera Sound Porto (where Nick Cave and Blur both performed). Since I already have tickets for both, I guess it will be a bit underwhelming for me.

My favorite band, The National, doesn't visit Portugal that often, so I'd put my money on them (/irony).

Do you mean that the June announcement is for bands playing at Primavera Sound, so they have to wait till after it's happened?

Any rumours about new additions to this Festival?

They usually surprise fans with awesome late additions like Nick Cave in 2022 or Blur in 2023

Think at least 2 more big names are missed in an already nice lineup

I hope they bring something like PULP, WEEZER or MY MORNING JACKET to fill spots, but we,ll have to wait a pair months more to find out.

    May not be so long.

Last year they announced 9 names in late November, another 40 mid-March, and then the final names in June. The final one was Blur, Prodigy and more.

This time the first announcement was bigger (about 20), but I've got my fingers crossed for a March unveiling for most of the rest, like last year.

Some great names at EotR (wspecially further down the poster) the weekend after ReS, is there usually some decent crossover?

Would love to see Sprints, CMAT, Nation of Language and English Teacher added.

Nation of Language and English Teacher are playing Meo Kalorama around that time, so they're not just in the UK. Plenty of crossover already between that and ReS too.

Looks like loads of good undercard bands are playing late August.

Yes, there will be support acts. I read it earlier today.

Can I remember where I read it? No.*

Can I find it again? No.

Can I remember exactly what it said? No.

Did it state that support acts will be announced in due course? Yes.

*It was on a Ticketmaster social media post iirc but can't find it anywhere now!

The instagram post was reported in a few papers, and you remember correctly. She said, "And some of my favourite artists playing shows too? Why…YES!!" Which I assume means support, rather than standalone shows.

Any idea of who is doing what day?

LCD have the 30th on their site

Sam Smith lists the 29th on their site, as do Yard Act - but that's the first day of the festival, so I think it's more their website design.

The Kills on the 30th is the only other one I can see.

Suspect they won't be giving splits till day tickets go on sale.

Not with a soundsystem that would kill you if played at full volume lol

Seeing Soulwax tonight for the 7th time, I think. Cannot wait, they always deliver

But they won't ever turn it up that loud, so where's the fun?

Apparently I was at the very first night of Despacio, in the very same location you'll be tonight.

The show I most wanted to see this summer is Sowlwax. The festival's producer organized their shows in Spain, without a date in Portugal, so I think there's a great chance they'll play there.

And, why not, dream about a night of Despacio?

Soulwax I'd love (although that would be another act shared with Rock en Seine - if it's going to be a cut and paste, will Gossip play as well?).

Is Despacio anything special? I can listen to records at home 😉

fascinated to know what was the reason for the delay (which artist pulled out) and if it was The Killers or Maneskin called in as plan B

My bet would be The Killers, given than Maneskin are playing all over, and were already predicted.

The Killers played Mad Cool just two years ago and don't appear to be playing other festivals, but are (semi-)conveniently in the UK just before this date.

I went in 2018 but honestly thought 2022's line-up was awesome and deeply regret not going.

This year's doesn't wow me in quite the same way, sure.

2018 was great - I came away thinking there were almost too many good acts 🤣

But 2022 was probably up there with Primavera 2013 as my favourite festival ever music-wise.

Looking at this year, there are only a handful of bands that I would even be slightly bothered about. Curious as it's still a huge line up of bands across a lot of styles.
