  1. So I was toying with going and then a 45 quid VIP ticket appeared online that I got yesterday morning. Went solo..

Is VIP worth it. For 45 quid, yes. The lineup pays for itself so the extra bit of comfort is nice but totally down to you if you will use it. The bar was dead, the food queues ting, lots of seating space , the bathrooms lovely but did have a queue now and again but I only needed the urinal. Viewing platform is nice but found the sound a bit iffy from there.

The thing is , the rest of the festival was absolutely blissful. Like the best run festival Ive been to in London.

The main stage , down by the right hand side was really easy to get to the front. I was almost on the rail for Young Fathers(shout out to the sign language peeps) For King Gizzard it was far busier but I am not the biggest fan so it wasn't a big deal.

The walk between main and and second was decent. The bar situation was again, amazing. Never waited for a beer and went to a few different spots. I think cans for most part also controlled my level of drunkenness.

The rough trade spots, meet and greets especially were a great idea. Met modeselektor very briefly. Got some merch from the rough trade store and went on my way. Speaking of the , only negative I have is the stage they were on had really low sound. I saw Helena Hauff and if wasn't great and the noise bleed from the red bull spot was pretty bad. Modeselektor later on also had pretty crap sound and I was stood right by the middle at the mixing desk.

Will certainly go again, may just do GA unless I can get VIP as cheaply as that. But for 50 quid , that line up, the logistics , the spot (Herne hill has some great spots. Off the cuff was amazing) it's a far more enjoyable fest than I expected

    Sets I saw

Top Dog - never heard of them. Unbelievable set. Now a big fan. Absolutely mental and bizarre

David Holmes - legend. Sinead O Connor mix was a moment.

Helena Hauff - bad sound. Couldn't get into it. So ended up at the red bull bar while some dnb DJ dropped some fun mixes. She was a great time.

Charlotte and Bolis - so much fun and great energy. Another recommendation from a friend. Really fun vibe.

Young Fathers - their reputation as one of the best live bands is true. Opening up with Queen is Dead was a pure blast of sound. Danced my arse off. Cried a bit. Was sad when it was over.

Alice Glass - I'm a bit crystal castles guy. I kinda like her solo stuff. I love HEALTH and I know Jupiter Keyes was touring with her at one point.

Worst set by far. Constantly complaining. It was almost a Grimes level melt down. Her attitude sucked. I saw how she treated the back stage from where I was standing. Really a shame

Slowdive - legends again. Second stage in general with sound and beer being right there , great spot.

Modeselektor - let down by the sound at that tent.

Left quickly and got the tube home.

    Fun night.

  2. My mates have been on about this festival for a while and this will be the first year I can get to it.

Fever Ray at Field Day was one of the best sets I have ever seen so I am very excited to get to it again over the summer. Wonder will it be altered in any way but regardless, it will be fantastic.

I was never really an Idles fan until I saw them live and that quickly changed my opinion of them. They put on a hell of a show.

I just hope Lankum doesn't clash with either.

  3. I managed to get a VIP/pit on resale Friday night for Field Day. I havent been since 2014 but the line up was pretty amazing.

I cant remember much from 2014 so its hard to compare but overall it was a fantastic day out.

The VIP for me was worth it. Being short and having quick access to the bar was nice. I spent most of my time at the main stage apart from seeing Jon Hopkins and Moderat.

Seeing other comments about talkers at festivals, it seems to be the norm now. The area around was mostly great Everyone was into it. There were some people who seemed to have comp passes who really didnt know much about what they were getting themselves into. Their faces turning from confused to smiles during Fever Ray and Arca was fun. The crowd at the mainstage for most part was really good and chilled. Only saw a few out of hand gurning teenagers during Jon Hopkins.

The sound was pretty decent where I was also. I did Coachella this year which may be as good as it gets sound wise at a festival but this did the job.

I got to see five artists I absolutely adore, for 80 quid and a nice view with easy access to the bar. Would absolutely do it again but Fever Ray > Hopkins > Arca > Moderat > Aphex might be the best on trot I have ever had at a festival.

Yup, that’s gonna be why we suddenly start seeing less and less of them at the top of the lineup - not because AM turned in a mediocre performance. After The 1975 have done it in the next couple of years, who else is there left to step up?

Are we considering Radiohead a guitar band. Whenever they have a new album, not a for long time, they will surely headline again.

Also curious where The Smile would fit into the lineup once they finally play

    I could see it.

If you had the likes of Dave and Dua Lipa, both British artists who are on the up so would be happy to take a "discount" for the publicity you'd presume, you'd probably have the money for a gigantic name like Beyoncé (or Swift - but as others have said she's unlikely).

She has another album coming out at some point in the new future, if the whole Act 1 format is followed. I cant see her doing another massive world tour so soon after this one so it would make sense for her to hit one or two festivals in the next few years. Maybe Glastonbury next year then Coachella the year after.

Someone took me to her show and London and it was unbelievable.

I thought so too before seeing tonight’s performance.

With the theatrical side to it, it already feels like a headline show

    I think the same.

She should be 100% headlining Coachella for example, just not sure about over here just yet.

  7. Not sure if there will be any takers but my crew are all dropping out. Whole thing is becoming a financial drain and they all live in the states.

So if anyone is interested in two vip week1&2 passes let me know and I can link you up with them..

  8. I was at The Smile Sunday and it was one of the best shows I have been to. They are onto something really amazing with this new music. There are songs in there that I think are some of the best they have ever written. Certainly the best work outside of Radiohead. Tom Skinner has brought a lot to this band that elevates them even further.

So I am hyped. Will try for a Roundhouse gig too but this is great news. Especially since most of my festival friends travel from Canada/Florida, introducing them to this band there will be delightful

I think Thom Yorke will be catching up on the shows he didn't do, ditto Ed and Jonny and as such I'd expect them back in 2023.

    Probably.

I was told touring and recording. But this was something I was told a while back and without knowing about this new band Jonny and Thom formed. Where that goes who knows

I’m a mixture of nervous and excited for Tuesday! Absolutely hoping that the main headliners I wanted from this year (Strokes, National, Tyler, Gorillaz) are there for one of the weekends. I think the only bands that could make me reconsider that all being together would be Radiohead and LCD, neither are particularly likely

Takes this as you will from a random dude on the internet but Radiohead did have plans to your next year. I haven't totally ruled them out at all and wouldn't be surprised if they pop up.
