  1. For more techie info on T-Swift’s wristbands:

    https://www.pixmob.com/projects/detail/taylor-swift-reputation-stadium-tour

Basically from what I can determine, each wristband acts as a pixel like in your TV or monitor, and the moving projector on or behind the stage activates each pixel as required by beaming stuff over the stadium.

Coldplay’s Xylobands operate by (I believe) blindly sending out a signal over a frequency that is different for each colour. That’s why they might start acting up near airports or the like.

I haven’t checked, but I imagine conspiracists would say they’re both more dangerous than 5G.

I retract my previous statement :).

Either way, it all looks very impressive - we took our various Xylobands from Manchester Etihad a few weeks earlier and were fully decked out for Coldplay at Glastonbury - they all still worked. We were very much glowing in the dark. Sorry, Coldplay lyric reference, I’ll leave now

Taylor Swift used them at her Reputation shows.

We got ours whilst watching ELO.

Taylor Swift didn’t use Xylobands - it was a different technology using some kind of invisible projection (im not an expert), unlike xylobands which use radio.

That’s how Taylor Swift’s bands could have patterns and waves broadcast across the stadium, whereas Coldplay’s just turned on or off based on their colour.

The video quality on the Arcade Fire set was awful for me. Might have been my connection, but not a problem for any of the others so far...

Worst by far for me as well, including sets from previous years on smaller stages.

Manchester Ritz seems to have cancelled everything so Confidence Man ain't happening.

Have they announced a closure? I have The Lottery Winners there in a few weeks, haven't seen anything from them since their initial "all going ahead as planned" post.

(I'd be keen to hear about anyone else who went out in the past week tbh, be it Soup Kitchen or Printworks or wherever. I loved some of the doofs at Bang Face but overall felt very odd about it!)

Went to Jon Hopkins at Bridgewater Hall on Friday, and Secret Garden Rave at Gorilla on Saturday - both seemed pretty full. The atmosphere at Jon Hopkins was truly apocalyptic, genuinely felt like the end of the world with everyone dancing like zombies in a beautiful concert hall.

Secret Garden Rave was pretty standard, everyone seemed to be having a good time and the venue was beautiful.  I don't know if they opened the second room as planned, but the main room was packed at points.  Lots of dancing, lots of smiles and happiness.  It was like nothing was any different.

Some guy told me I look like Fatboy Slim and wanted to shake my hand, but other than that, business as usual there. (Ignore my profile pic, I look much different now so he probably had a point)

I think there is minimal risk to the event itself being held. *However* my assumption is there may be a major impact on the build up and its hard to know what impact there will be on the supply chain.

Others may know more than I on this!

Based on this, is it possible that Glastonbury could have a "limited" build this year?  Less structures, (technically) bigger capacity for the stages that remain, more open areas, less smaller acts, etc.?

I'm sure those people who pay their ticket balance would be quite happy with that kind of compromise.  I'm not understating the importance of advance planning and I'm sure there is much already in play for the site build, but cutting it back somewhat would allow for staff shortages and sicknesses, and material supplies, a little.

  8. Was discussing this last night after the intimate Manchester album launch gig - Park was, and will remain, perfect for them. I don't even see them ever headlining a main stage - I think they, and their fans, would be more than happy for a sunset Park gig again.  That's my hope, anyway.

  9. Hot Chip - Melody of Love, from the appropriately-titled album "A Bath Full of Ecstasy". We had abandoned Chemical Brothers and got to Hot Chip for this song.  Was a very special moment.

Then the following morning, everything by Eyre Llew.  Perfect end to a perfect night.

I preferred it to the spider, probably in the minority saying that but I definitely had a better time in there.

Other than when it was ridiculously busy on Friday night, I found it to be more "pleasant" than the spider.  I would have spent more time there but the stars didn't align.

The spider was more interesting to look at, but Pangea had better sound (and what seemed to be a larger optimal soundscape). What little time I did spend there, during Sub Focus on Sunday night, was great, and I look forward to enjoying it more next year.

I couldn't get past that and get excited about seeing it , I work in city center Manchester and see big cranes every day.

You mean to say that you don't dance under those cranes every time you see them?

  12. I'm referring to the cover of the programme, which was revealed a few months ago, shown here:

    https://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/the-official-glastonbury-2019-artwork-is-revealed/

I know we can get a black and white print of this, but I would really love the colour version of the artwork, and just the artwork. Same for the previous few years as well. Any ideas where I can get prints of this art, or even a high res version so I can do it myself?

  13. I found out about them through a clothes peg attached to my bag during Lounge Kittens. Went up to JP on my “morning after the night before” wander and was so glad I did - such a perfect, emotional way to start my Sunday. Even the beardy stage guy was full of praise for them afterwards. I’ll be following them very closely from here on out!

  14. Thanks to the three people we stood next to during the end of Hot Chip who wanted to start a conversation during the last (beautiful) song, who were very gracious when we said we wanted to enjoy the last song before chatting, stuck around afterwards and had a great little conversation with us. Doesn’t sound like much in retrospect, but it was a great little moment of understanding and acceptance, and really made our special night even more so.

Not-so-thanks to the woman who squatted down five feet from us and had a massive piss while we were sat by the fire pit just up from there, and even less thanks to the guy who tried to steal my bag and then tried to swipe things from other people in the Rabbit Hole during The Lottery Winners, but you know what? You’ll both get what’s coming to you, just like we continued to have the truly beautiful night we deserved.

  15. After the resounding success of Friendly Fires’ return this year, I personally think they could kill it in a Pyramid sub slot (underneath an appropriate act, obviously). They don’t rely heavily on visuals, their singer is very compelling, and their music is so summery and danceable. You’ll still get people just waiting for the headliner, but they’d probably get them on their feet.

Of course, it depends on how well their new album does next month, but their JP set was BOUNCING. Seemed almost a waste to have it in a tent.

  16. Such a phenomenal show as always. But yes, the crowd ruined it for us. Tried moving a couple of times before giving up and standing at the back centre (where the sound was better anyway). So many people on coke and throwing themselves around, yelling over the music about motorbike engines, and one guy even decided to just pee where he was stood. “Hell is other people.”

Ultimately, not my scene, but I’ll try to catch them on tour sometime. We ended up at Hot Chip and had a much happier, fun, uplifting experience!

  17. Individual coach tickets are sent to the peron's email address used for Glastonbury registration. The lead booker doesn't get anything special, other than a warm glowing feeling of being somewhat important.

“Block pop ups” on iOS Chrome doesn’t block them, because technically they’re not a pop up. Unfortunately.
