  1. Might as well flag up some others I can recommend, too (not necessarily reggae) ....

    Gogol Bordello, Town Centre

Babyhead, Town Centre - Bristol legends (who do Boomtown every year).

The Beat, Town Centre - 100% effort every time, they never bore me

    Amadou & Miriam, Old Mines

Dreadzone, Old Mines - of course

John  Fairhourst, Old Mines - for a bit of loud blues/rock.

    Songhoy Blues

RDF, Chinatown - dirty old skool new age traveller's band

System 7, Psychedelic Forest - Steve Hillage, say no more

    Pronghorn, Rusty Spurs

Showhawk Duo, Rusty Spurs - they do fantastic stuff with guitars (and will have you singing Bo Rap, too)

    What can you recommend?

Just been listening to Showhawk Duo on your recommendation. Holy fuck.

  2. My must see's are;

    Flogging Molly - town centre
John Butler Trio - old mines

Less Than Jake - town centre

    The Lagan - devils kicks

    The Rumjacks - devils kicks

    Gogol Bordello - town centre

    Sheelanagig - Jolly Dodger

Plus a few others I wouldn't mind seeing. These are the ones I'd be annoyed at missing though.

  3. I'm literally going to see bands I know I like and a couple of DJ's that I know I like. Apart from that I'll wander around aimlessly and get sucked into whatever venue is near me. Otherwise I can imagine I'd be running around all weekend trying to desperately see everything and end up missing it all.

  4. To be fair, I used to enjoy Reading around ten years ago. I went last year as my brother got married and they had their 'honeymoon' at the festival so we all went and the festival itself was dire. I only heard about Boomtown early this year and it looks so different it's unreal. My favourite part of a festival is being away from the world for 5 days and so the immersive experience of Boomtown sounds spot on to me. I shall be sure to post on here afterwards and compare though.

  5. yes it does

Pahh. Just got a message back from the boomtown fb page and they said that they won't be playing twice. They merely pick bands that represent the different districts and put them on the main stage. Ah well, I've seen them once this year already, one more time will be enough I suppose.

  6. On the efestivals rumour page it's got Less Than Jake confirmed twice, once in Chinatown, and the other in the Town Centre. Does this mean they're doing a double slot over the weekend? Like at Reading when a band plays on the mainstage one day and headlines the Lockup another?

  7. Has anyone ever bothered with the magic carpet thing? I've never bought any additional extras in my life but my partner doesn't like hills and it might be worth the 20 quid just so she doesn't whinge about the hill between stages all weekend. Is the hill that bad?

  8. What is the deal with the amount of alcohol you can take in? I know the official tagline is 'enough for personal consumption, aka 16 cans' but then Reading says the same thing 'enough for personal consumption', and I take in a hell of a lot more than 16 cans to that. First time here though so wanted to double check how strict they are on it. Also we're driving up so could we leave crates in the car if need be and bring them in the following days?

  9. I think you're looking at the dates of a tribute band.

You could be right as clicking on the ticket info it's £10 a ticket. *Facepalm* I should really look at the websites I click on properly.

I still stand by it though. Big announcement Monday apparently, that'll be the UK tour. Pre-emptive rumour mill.

  10. I'm thinking the 'arena sized band' for the secret set could be Foo Fighters. They're doing TribFest the weekend before Reading, then UK dates after. Plus Dave Grohl has stated before how much he loves playing the festival.

But then this is Melvin so I shouldn't really get my hopes up.
