Well, there's more to it than that as far as I can see.
The train tickets are £25 cheaper on the Wednesday for some bizzare reason.
I don't want to get up at 6am on Thursday in order to get there for 9am.
and yes, extra day of booze and relaxation would be nice.
-
They have been doing the earlybird sale for donkey's years so I can't see it changing this year.
You can get next year's ticket at this year's prices right after the festival. (of course that's only really a saving if you have the cash to spend on it - if its getting interest on a credit card then it prob ewon't end up cheaper) Means you don't have the crazy rush the next year and can sit ahppy knowing you have all your tickets!

Oh yes, Radio 1's rock show has a 4 hour download special on monday from Midnight
-
Oh, that's dissapointing. I'll have to make sure and check out IOW too. Not sure I'm going to be in to watch all teh live feeds, was hoping to record stuff to watch at my leisure. I notice the website has an 'on demand' section though so maybe that's my answer.
Thanks guys!

Does anyone know when and what channels are doing coverage of Download this year?
Clearly not goping to it, but watching festi coverage is all part of my big festival warm up!!
-
very excited about Living end! maybe this time I won't forget to go see them and will get to see the whole set!

... theres a bridge at Reading?!?
-
I think I'm the only one who doesn't like Mark Watson. Tim Minchin is great though.
I know Rhys Darby is playing in Edinburgh in August so that's a possible, he's played Leeds before.
-
(I think Mark Watson is a shoe-in for one of the other headliners)
-
Tim Michin is Ace! I shall have to drag my lot along to him (introduced them to Steven Lynch at T last year).
-
There were ramps at eather side of the bridge, you walked up a ramp on the/across bridge then down another ramp at the other side
-
ooo does that mean no ramps this year (not that I'm lazy or owt!)
-
There are sooo many threads about this already. Go back to last years threads and have a read
-
Was under august events. Then listed in order of date leeds is near the bottom.
-
How did you get to that? I can't find the event section anywhere on metcheck anymore!

Having read what the website says about the over 18s wristband it says that they are not compulsory but are available for people who look young to stop them having to carry ID around.
To me this suggests there will be a rigourous ID check, maybe from a different desk or whatever, prior to handing them out. I imagine this would have to be robust enough for the council to be happy that the bar staff themselves are not re-iding those with the wristbands at point of sale which would usually nhave to be the case regardless of wristband - as pointed out by glasto-worker.
Just take your booze and drink it in the campsite/smuggle it into the arena and don't stress about whether you can get an over 18s ID. If they are not compulsory then you don't have to have one to get served anyway, you could always take your chances at the bars - though as pointed out above that does carry a risk for the server also.

a bbq'd bacon sandwich on friday morning is amazing! but that's where i run out of ideas.
is anybody up on what's safe to cook on a disposable bbq - don't want to get food poisoning - imagine that!!!!
-
i know its a bastard paying £1 for a tea but i must spend atleast a tenner on the stuff over the weekend
-
The Living End were awesome a couple of years ago. However, Chris Cheney did a bit too much showing off/soloing for a 40 min set!!
-
I'm really hoping for The Living End - they are in Europe in July, doing european festivals. really hoping they do a few european and UK dates and stick around for Reading! Cant make their Manchester date this month so really hope they do play!

The solif fuel ones are fine, especially if you bring a container with holes drilled in to put it in as a wind break (a metal one of course!) and are smaller than a gas stove too.
-
Hi all,
The past fefw years where there have been the discussion forums with Melvin there have been some results and answers to questions posted here by people who have gone and I'm sure there have been some more official published ones too. Have I just missed them this year? Anyone know what was said?
Cheers

Hex stove are OK
good for a brew in the morning, however only use the amount of water you need otherwise may take a while and your suggestion about the wind break is a good idea...... However if the fuel get to hot it will melt......
-
Some will say it was inevitable, but that doesn't make me any more understanding. Frankly I'd prefer 2005's security to no gas.
How much are solid fuel blocks, but far more importantly how big and heavy? I ask this because I have, without question, the smallest gas stove in the world, and this really will make a difference to what I can carry. I'm traditionally the smug one who manages to fit all of his stuff and everything everyone else should have brought but didn't think about, everything the group needs, all of my food plus sleeping bag and tent in the rucksack, and still left with two hands free to help carry wood and booze. I don't want this to change.
EDIT: If this only applies to Reading I would seriously consider doing Leeds, bar the persuading everyone else to go oop North part.
The top 10 bands you WILL be seeing no-matter what!
in Reading & Leeds Festivals
Posted
In no particular order:
Radiohead
Faith no More
Living end
Eagles of Death Metal
Placebo
Maximo Park
Vampire Weekend
hmmm find it hard to pick 10 I'll be seeing NO MATTER WHAT - I mean if one of my friends was ill or something then I'd probably miss anyof them (ok poss not FNM...) and there are ones I'll def see cos my friends all want to, like Pordigy and Deftones that I wouldn't put on a list just for me.
There are quite alot of the smaller bands that I'm just starting to listen to and like to that I'd really like to catch, but that would make my list more than 10 but here they are too:
Airbourne Toxic Event
AFI
New Found Glory
White Lies
White Denim
Riverboat Gamblers
And probably some more I'll fidn I like whenI listen more....
