I didn't have a bad meal, helped by previous recommendations on here and some tried and tested favourites from the farm and other festivals.

Highlights were the kebabs from Fusion Fire & Spice next to Brother's Bar at West Holts which are always top drawer; Bunnyman's Bunnychow hot chilli opposite the Taphouse on the way from Leftfield to West Holts; £6 breakfast brioche from Eat The Farm next to the cashpoints on the same run; and Paletas Mexican Ice Lollies on the left hand side as you enter West Holts.

Free curry from Hare Krishna at the top of Pennards was nicer than I expected and a lovely atmosphere in the shade on a hot Thursday. Not all that dissimilar to the curry (plus momo) I had from Taste Tibet near Paletas. That was decent but not as tasty as the curries I've had previously from Tibetan Kitchen or Indonesian Coconut Curries.

Banana Milkshake from Fruit Cup on way from Williams Green to West Holts; and Mango Lassi from Groovy Smoothies on way from BBC Introducing to Other were both lovely with my added Chairman's Reserve spiced rum.

Cherry crumble with roasted nuts and custard from Crumbleshack between Bread & Roses and Leftfield hit the spot. My teenagers enjoyed a great baked cheesecake and chocolate fudge cake from Just Desserts opposite the Pharmacy on the way from Bread & Roses to Circus but I limited myself to a bite of each.

I got home and found that I'd somehow lost a kilo in weight from before the festival.

Open Sesame are the dog's danglies, local too and my go to at EOTR, they are so, so good.

End of the Road too. No alcohol in the arena, no go for me.

Same at EOTR yeah. Beavertown were there for years, good cocktail scene, easy to get a drink at the bars.

Not like the absolute piss served up at Glasto.

This, EOTR's options are great and really works, to the point I'm not taking much booze with me this year.

Going off topic a bit; I was increasingly disappointed with the beer options at Glastonbury over the last few visits.  I understand it is a much larger festival and therefore there are supply logistics to overcome, plus I presume Glastonbury receive bids from major suppliers for the main beer options(?) - I mean, who would choose Carlsberg?! 😉  But surely there is a way of improving beer options?!

It's still good value, but I'm afraid it's out of my price range nowadays. I couldn't possibly justify paying for 2 festivals a year & I've chosen End of the Road as my one.

Same here, EOTR was my 'backup' last year as I didn't get a ticket for Glastonbury, but tbh, I had such a good time, I'm fairly certain EOTR will now be my annual festival.  I can't justify the cost of doing more than one, particularly with the current financial crisis that is set to only get worse over the next year.

Anyone know the biggest Sainsburys/Tesco between Bristol and EOTR?

After a load of Moth cocktails. And a sleeping bag.

Might struggle for a sleeping bag at the Shaftesbury Tesco, it's not an Extra.  But there is Asda and Aldi in Gillingham (also Factory Shop which is likely to have a sleeping bag).  There's also Lidl next door to Tesco in Shaftesbury.

I'd be tempted to take a minor detour to the Tesco in Shepton Mallet.

Wonder why a lot of people seem to be first timers, including me! I am also being kicked in the ass by it and have had to take today off sick.

I wasn't at the festival, but had it a couple of weeks ago, for the 1st time.  I'd avoided it despite being in close proximity and taking no precautions with others in the household having had it on 6 occasions since the start of the pandemic.

I think the BA4/BA5 version is more able to get past immunity and I've heard of more '1st timers' getting it in the last few weeks.  But also as population we're mixing more, so it's a combination I suspect.

EDIT: what others have said above! 🙂

Also, I hope everyone feels much better v soon.

Not so much thinking of not going, but also considering a Thursday arrival and skip all the queues and to be more on form for the Friday. Anyone who arrives on Thursday - where do you camp? Everywere seems rammed by Wednesday evening.

I'm off to End of the Road again later in the year. It's a really nice festival without the crazy crowds and walking like at Glastonbury. And you can take your own booze into the 'arena'

I've done Glastonbury from Thurs onwards for the last 3 now, 2019 I cycled in and that was a game changer.  I felt much fresher throughout until the Sunday night.  If I try for tickets and successful I will bike it and go in on Thurs again.

Likewise, I'm off to EOTR for the 2nd time this year, last year was my first time and I just absolutely loved it.  I think I saw more music each day, plus the whole layout, vibe, ease of moving about was so well done.  The beer options were so much better too and there was always somewhere to sit and eat.

Best: Persian kebab place near BBC Introducing. I had chicken, mates had beef, rated as very tasty by everyone.

Worst: Chapati wrap thing near Williams Green. Tasty but bread was dry and small portion.

Honourable mention: Pasty, chips and beans I got for a £5 at 3:30am near BBC Introducing; not high quality but a bargain and hit the spot.

Was the Persian place called Open Sesame?  If so, they're local, from Frome and I agree, awesome food!

  8. I didn't get a ticket this time around, having been successful each time since 2010, so I'd had a good run.  We went to EOTR for the first time last year and had such a great time, immediately got a ticket for this year.  We've already decided EOTR will be the alternative if we can't get Glastonbury tickets.

I also wanted to see how I felt during and after this Glastonbury and evaluate whether I wanted to try for tickets again.  Having watched the TV coverage and reading the forums over the w'end, I'm not sure I will try for 2023.  I really enjoyed 2019 but by Sunday PM, I was done in.  I cycled in for 2019, which was a revelation; showers and some of the cleanest loos on site, that certainly helped a lot and would be the only way I would travel in again.  However I think my tolerance and having had my head turned by EOTR I think I'm done with Glastonbury for a bit.... he says.

Also, as mentioned above, Green Man is superb. More family orientated than EOTR but also more relaxed and there's something about waking up in a tent looking at the hills and mountains that just can't be beaten.

Plus you can go for a week if you want to and spend a few days exploring the Brecon Beacons.

Yeah great shout that too.  Agreed re EOTR, just ticks all the boxes, I wasn't a broken man come Monday morning either! 😄

EOTR has become my permanent replacement for Glastonbury I think - much more bearable for my mobility issues & the music is always right up my street. I'll be doing my 15th EOTR this year - only missed the first one!

Yeah, I loved the vibe of it, the ease of moving about, the people, the food and booze, just everything was so good.  It ticked all the boxes music wise and general vibe of it.  It suited me perfectly and like Glastonbury it's only 20 or so mins away from home.

I've had a good run at Glastonbury and many other more dance music related festivals and the 90s free parties over the last 25+ years.  We'll def try again for tickets in October, but my gut feel is EOTR is the one I'll be definitely be on the early bird again.

More than happy to meet up this year at EOTR for a beer.  Actually is there a EOTR efests meet-up?... I'll go check!

  14. Half and half here, part of our group got tickets and I'm so pleased for them and it's great to see their social media posts.  I've been reading these forums for the last few weeks and there is that pang of disappointment I can't deny it.

However last year we all went to our other local festival End Of The Road and simply loved that festival and we're going again in September.  It didn't have that visual impact that Glastonbury does (not many do tbh), but every element of EOTR was brilliant.

So it's now become our 'backup' for Glastonbury, but tbh, given how much I enjoyed EOTR (and I'm getting older!), I could easily see it becoming a permanent replacement.  Will thoroughly enjoy watching/listening to Glastonbury this weekend, then do EOTR and take stock after that I think.

I've v tempted to go for another bike ride over towards Pilton later, but I think that might just bring on FOMO!

Hoping to god at this point that the festival goes through. Would feel like an absolute waste of the limited time I have off and a huge waste of money to do a trip without Glastonbury. Basically the only trip I've wanted to do for the past decade.

I reckon it'll be ok, but if not only thing I would say (biased) is that a trip to the SW UK, you'd have the opportunity to see so many wonderful and historic places and there's always some free parties going on to get that 'naughty corner' vibe ;)

Been over 100 pages now since I went out... blimey. And I get the feeling its being taken in a different vibe now given I recall it was pretty relaxed in here at first.

Come June and the Burrow Hill is flowing innum, we'll be alright.
