  1. lets not pretend that simply red doing money's too tight to mention, wasn't fantastic.

hucknall might be a total dick, but still a great singer. (his solo soul is stuff supposed to be decent)

ezra furman, one I will be looking into, as for the rest, not bad, and as I've said before, grime aint my thing, but skepta was at least captivating to watch.

star of the shows was the moustache on the singer on that first dreadful rudimental track!

  2. as with some of the others, not overly impressed with the lineups.

bicep, and jackmaster b2b with joy o aside.

the 'techno' lineup on the Friday...cant believe couldn't do better than that, for what is a pretty significant stage at glastonbury?

  3. any suggestions / tips for a stopover on the Tuesday en route to Glastonbury down from the North?

, we have a camper van but going to break the journey up as its a bit fo trek from Scotland in the one day and we've only the one driver (and going by our van pick up / set off time on the Tuesday)

camp site / caravan park with the camper van? or hotel?... hotel would be good chance of a comfy bed & last hot shower (and water running for long as you like!) before confined in camper for 5 days I suppose!:-)

will probably do the majority of the drive on the Tuesday, and only leave 1hr-2hr drive on the Wednesday morning / early afternoon to get to camper van fields.(feeling fresh and in daylight hours;-))

any camp site / hotel recommendations / links would be great, especially from those who have done / do something similar with breaking up the travel down from Scotland / the north.

was initially looking at Bristol / Gloucester area, not far off the M4?

    cheers

  4. The bar and stage bit that you walk into is open most of the day, like all the other venues. It's just the bit through the tunnel that opens later.

(At least, I think - I'm sure Ian the Worm will correct me if that's wrong).

sp the rabbit hole entrance, is just another entrance to the bar you can access all the time?.. I thought it took you too a totally separate venue / space??

enjoyed seeing The Egg playing in that bar in 2013.

  5. its on the map, but doesn't open til late at night (not sure of exact time) just look for the big white rabbit.

(apologies, just looked at the 2015 map, and its not actually shown on there as of yet)...its on previous maps...its in the 'Above the park' area

going down the rabbit hole is actually one of my top things to do this time around, never managed to squeeze it in on my only previous Glastonbury in 2013

  6. nice revision on the map, additions to the map key, the main entry gates stand out a lot more , and the camper van fields much more clearer / defined (especially for those that may have not been before)

  7. its going to be very interesting to see if the snp can keep their bandwagon on the road...can they keep the momentum going? or over the next few years will it get a bit stale, ( last night was a great result for them in scotland..but im not sure if its the only way is down after that in election terms as they are a one issue party when it come too it, and their only card now , and to which they will be asked, is at what point do they call the next referendum?

its a tricky thing to judge the timing of and im reminded that its not long after the lost referendum which was decided on from a much higher turnout and with 16&17s voting also...)

lot of questions for the snp....how well will these new mps actually do? (and many of them are actually new to the snp after being brought into the snp machine via the referendum campaign) and they are all under much more media scrutiny than the snp has ever seen.

bar sturgeon and salmond, they don't have many other standouts...and yes at moment they don't need them, as people are being carried away with the nationalist utopian dream, and they don't really ask for details, its all very much 'hope'...blind hope, and a notion that , somehow / Scotland would land on its feet....as time goes on, people will need a bit more than soundbites, and the snp's record in holyrood will also be getting looked at.

remember the yes camp lost the referendum to a major degree because they couldn't answer questions on the economy...the snp still cant answer those questions, and given the way the oil industry is going, that's not looking too rosey for them on that either

you also have to factor in that the labour party can only improve from the point they are in, and that given a new uk wide leader, someone who actually looks and acts like a leader, they will come back

or perhaps im just in denial & looking for the snp fall that won't come, that's its inescapable they will get a yes vote in my lifetime.....if they do, it will be a very sad day indeed for Scotland and rest of United Kingdom imho.

  8. that's the Thursday night taken care of then:-)

should be great to see...got some fantastic disco tunes

pretty decent list of names so far for block 9 (and nice they are opening early)....great news

  9. to be fair to the organisers, there isn't a lot of choice for headliners, considering who is on / off recording / touring schedule, hasn't played the gig before (or has, and time span inbetween), and a 'newer' act that could be labelled a 'headliner' that would please people . make it an event, wow announcement.

being realistic, who do you have?: fleetwood mac, stevie wonder, paul McCartney, prince, Madonna, ac/dc, pearl jam, Elton john, blur, radiohead, libertines (at a push) and then hoping for reformations by someone like stone roses, oasis, pulp, led zep...and for many of them the price would have to be right. (*im discounting david bowie, and neil young )

I'd tip Fleetwood mac to play next year though after they've banked all the cash they can this year with their own gigs and the other festivals they are playing....they really should get Madonna to play it soon as well.

  10. the younger generation need to start making some good music of their own, then we can see some different headliners.

they already are, its their version of 'good music / whatever this is. the thing is Glastonbury is not ready to have people like calvin harris headline.

its not my music, but its what some of kids are into. (much like kanye west and of course taylor swift.)

I wonder what the reaction on here would've been if it had been:

    calvin harris

    kanye west

    taylor swift

    a very Coachella line up.

looking at the comments on facebook regarding The Who....the amount of youngsters who literally have no idea about such a legendary band says quite a bit.

  11. the thing about Paul weller (much like Morrissey), is that if he picked the correct setlist he would be a fantastic main stage booking...he has tremendous tunes from the jam, style council and his solo stuff to pick from...(I've seen him several times over the years, and he always played great gigs, haven't bothered the last 6/7 years to go see him, incidentally when he's now started playing the Jam stuff again, due to the ticket price and secondly his later albums weren't doing anything for me anymore.

if he were to play a career retrospective with maybe only a couple tracks from his last couple albums, I think he will be very good / well received act on the pyramid on the sunday (he will definitely be up for it im sure...another career comeback in the making this could prove to be)

  12. Alt-J are on after Lionel

really?..that is disappointing...saw them in 2013...boring as fuck.

be much better getting chic on after lionel and keeping the mood upbeat.

  13. what about spandau ballet or culture club on after lionel as possibilities?

I thought perhaps maybe duran duran, but they are playing elsewhere on the sunday...my friends will see them at Sonar (which at first seems bizarre, but when you consider they have some huge (electronic) tunes it has to be said.

could all be seen as bonkers bookings...but then they do have Motorhead on there

  14. So your in a band,(you've been everywhere , seen & played all round the works multiple times) but circumstances arise where you have the chance to play in front of 80-100000 people at one of the biggest music festivals in the world / screened live on TV to millions one last time. (Probably due to another headliner pulling out / negotiations breaking down so Glastonbury are on the look out)

One issue is you have a gig for 6.000 people in Paris, but you could move it back a few days and still play anyway,

Of course your going to do Glastonbury.

Irrespective of the money the Who would make, the ego massage is huge for guys that long into their career, that's probably as much of a draw

  15. A few people on this thread are getting rather precious about a concert date being moved. in the grand scale of things a minor inconvenience for Paris ticket holders, the majority of which will be locals, so giving them a months notice that a gig is pushed back, is not that big a deal. Yes, it's a pity for those travelling within France & those from further afield (probably a good few Brits have flights / Eurostar), but your maybe talking a few hundred people (prob a lot less, and of those, a high proportion can hopefully extend their stay to make the new date, or can amend booking / don't lose on hotel / train / flight ....so the Who see a chance to go out on a high by doing Glastonbury, it's a very easy choice for the band and let's be realistic gigs get moved for all sort if reasons all the time, doesn't make it right, but opportunities / eventualities arise.

It's happened to me a few times with gigs (and with football matches bring rearranged for TV etc... had flights booked to go see Morrissey a free years back and the gigs got cancelled, I thus lost my money, I wasn't happy about it, but knowing Morrissey always a risk he cancels gigs.

Would be nice if the who did try an organise something for those travelling to Paris that may lose out though (let's perhaps give the band themselves a chance to say something about that (if any of this actually turns out to be true of course:-)..

  16. The Who are easily one of the greatest bands of all time, have the back catalogue & albums to prove it, obviously they've lost moon & entwistle, but daltrey can still sing the fuck out those tunes!

For those that don't know the who (it kinda shocks me that anyone into music wouldn't know most of their hits as pretty inbuilt into pop culture the last 50years) but grab the greatest hits / have a look at their live stuff on YouTube.

Given the names for acts being thrown about as the last headliner, they are a very strong choice (ideally id have had Fleetwood mac (I've never seen them) or Madonna (who I think would be fantastic, but up against Coldplay / Chris Martin & friends / Taylor swift / blur (I love blur, but that new album won't make for a headline gig & you know they will play only the tunes coxon wants to), a who greatest hits set tops those options IMHO (blur will be around for a awhile, whereas the who really are nearing the end of their touring life, so prob last chance for them to do Glastonbury, also by the sounds if it 2007, was a bad year with the weather & mood onsite, so this gives them the chance to set it right / give people proper memory / experience of the band (especially if you've never seen them, and on a monetary level, a ticket for Their own gigs is an expensive ticket in itself, so good value seeing them at Glastonbury )...ok, it's an inconvenience for the French fans, but these things happen,

Hopefully not a noël g set before them, but The Who are certainly a premium band to headline any festival, certainly will give a communal singalong feel to the end of the pyramid on the Sunday) much more than a Prince set would that's for sure
