  1. so the snp change their principles to say they'd vote on a law that doesn't effect Scotland, a law which would in fact grant people in England and wales the same rights as people in Scotland currently have.and yet people (in England!) are falling over themselves to say how great the snp are?

great PR they have, they must be pissing themselves with laughter at how gullible some folk are.

  2. If you don't like crushed crowds on the Thursday, why not go do something else? Isn't that the simpler solution?

or perhaps just stay at home, watch the festival on tv / internet?;-)

I don't mind a crowd, what I mind is putting huge dj's on in a tiny venue, when its obvious thousands of people will be wanting to see them (not withstanding the lack of other options on the Thursday evening)....

surely could've used Sonic rather than wow

  3. had a wander up there on the Thursday, rather nice space, area, thought it worked well in amongst the trees...I never really stayed for any of the music that was on, but people seemd to be into it.

kept on walking and ended up in above the tipi fields part, just had a sit down and had good look at the festival...rather nice time spent.

  4. What day was this? That may of been our group on Thursday

The girl getting a nude portrait done was completely out of her mind and was gurning like fuck apparently so a few of our group made a few comments about it and the girl's best friend was sitting in front of them and overheard so turned around and said that she was put up to it by him or something like that. So the girls in our group got a bit disgusted that her 'best friend would take advantage of her in that state and convince her to get nude in front of all these people when she wasn't in the right state to make that decision herself' and got up and left after a little confrontation with the guy.

I was right at the back blissfully aware of anything going on and had to get it explained to me at a later date, fair play if the girl was completely out of her mind but to me (in my mangled state) she didn't look too fucked and was happy to be up there by her own choice.

different naked girl!...We weren't in there til Saturday morning.  (unless she went back again for a second opinion!:-)lol

after I'd left the venue my mates did see a bit of kick off as some guy was trying to take pictures on their phone...it got very heated with one of the organisers ( not withstanding their no photos policy in that venue even more so as a result of the girl being in the nude im guessing,)

  5. we went into the los artistes bohemias venue, music was really good in there, interesting to see the people painting away....a young woman ended up getting a nude portrait of herself, this didn't go down well with a group of other young girls who stormed off saying it was disgusting:-)lol

  6. Sometimes though you have to give people what they need and not what they want.

Or less tongue in cheek what the organisers of that area themselves enjoy - otherwise it isn't organic and real - like any art you're creating. Hence why you can't pick bits of it up and drop it next to the Beat Hotel or whereever as then the creators of that area would just say stuff it and not want to do it anymore.

interesting, but if the average age of the people attending the SE corner is majority early 20's...are there early 20 somethings involved with the production of the SE area to reflect that demographic / the future demographic of that area?

  7. I really liked it. Lots of peeps dancing.

The guilty pleasures thing was fun on Thursday too.

But Williams Green ends relatively early.

glad to hear it went well...perhaps the start of an annual thing?  (or have they done it before?)

if I ever go back to Glastonbury, that will be on my list.to check out if so.

  8. I think it falls into 2 categories as to what people expect of the SE Corner (or what they used to expect for the veterans)

a late night area combining music/bars/clubs/art/exhibits/theatre/bands

    or

a late night dance area with some elements of art / theatre...a kind of manumission / gatecrasher / Ibiza club experience for the old ravers amongst us...(The Downlow is perhaps so many people's favourite as it does the theatre / entertainment side so well along with the music)

I've only been to Glastonbury twice, I still go clubbing quite a lot even though im in my late 30's, dance music is a huge draw for me at festivals, and certainly why I head to SE Corner at night and I would suggest (and the feeling from our crowd that go) that the majority of people going to SE corner just want a late night dance area, and that more dance tents/stages should be put on to suit that as the problem with the area is a question of space, music policy and sound levels not really about the artistic statement / politics being made within the SE Corner.

as for a music policy ...yes, have some drum n bass, but programming needs to be a lot better so have more choice of house/techno etc when drum n bass djs are on.

as for the late night bars/theatre/artier side, could this not be accommodated within Williams green / leftfield / the park?

how was the northern soul night in Williams green?...one of the things I wished I'd went round to check on actually.

  9. But its a lost vagueness thing so why would it be in the Park? Had my wedding reception in there.

fair enough tradition/sentimentality, but for most people, its just a venue at a festival and the majority of people going to SE corner at that time of night just want to hear / get into a venue to have a dance to some house/techno/disco/bass

  10. :-)lol...I was saying before I thought was too much drum n bass happening in south east corner, seems im not the only one.

but mentioning the salon carousel...I remember they were playing gabber/uk hardcore at one point which was at el;ast a change

  11. my suggestions would be  (and I will say I did enjoy Shangri-La, but only when the numbers allowed a proper look at the smaller venues in the alley, block 9, was crammed, but I thought manageable, even though the sound coming from genosys was pretty low....downlow was the star of the SE Corner in my opinion).

unfairground, keep bez's acid house and that other large bar/venue, but the rest of the fairground rides should go to make way for 1 or 2 largish dance tents

Rocket Lounge and Deluxe dinner, get rid of that, and that coctail place outside heaven takes up far too much space, again add another largish dance tent to the area....(lets face it, how many people are going to be eating in the South East corner? just a waste of space having so many eating spots)

axe the temple, should make it an arcadia afterburner type structure (like they used to have at Rockness and other festivals) , that everyone entering that area can see / take part in

would also try and have Stonebridge bar in the Park area expanded, music in there was great....ben ufo b2b set with Joy O, then hot chip guys especially.

  12. had an oggie (beef) for the first time this year.

I found it very dry, despite covering it in tomoto sauce & too crumbly for my liking, was like a massive Forfar bridie...but can see the appeal as it certainly fills you up and give you energy for the night ahead.

best meals I had at Glastonbury:

breakfast in a box..(from place at  top of big ground, being a  fussy bastard the guy was very good at swapping items I don't like from the breakfast in a  box deal for doubles of my favs...no eggs / mushrooms / tomatos for me, yes to more bacon & sausages!.)

pulled pork bap & fries  @ smokey tails at the beat hotel, very nice sauce for the chips as well.

  13. the £2 'entrance' fee to the downlow gets you a moustache, with the money going to various charities.

moustache works the entire time of the festival and gets you speedy access / different queue.

my wait time, sunday morning, the queue looked massive,4am but I wasn't too fussed on four tet on genosys (sound was poor anyway) so 4 of us waited, queue actually went very quick and we were in within 25mins, couple of our crowd came in around 5am, they never waited in queue long either...downlow was on til 6.

Monday morning, with the aid of my moustache I basically walked in through the separate queue (this was around 3ish, downlow was on til 5.

definitely worth the wait / I'd suggest checking it out on your next visit.

the dungeon meat promo cd I got inside is also not bad , listened too it a few times since got home.

  14. i would suggest that the space for the unfairground rides / the gobbler etc would be better used for another largish dance tent in order to free up space / give people a venue to get into, would perhaps give people  the chance to see the mini venues within the alleys at  Shangri-La if crowd is thinned out a bit...obviously a lot of work went into them / the art installations , just unfortunate you had to be lucky with the time you were there to explore it outwith the crowds...I was there early Monday morning and had chance to really go around the lanes  (seemed to be a sweet time spot between 2-3am...perhaps whilst silver hayes was still on?) and then from 4am...had been on the sunday morning and the place was rammed, could hardly move in the main approach, nevermind get into the small alleys.

  15. if you can afford it, burning man in America, only festival comparable to some of the more artistic elements of Glastonbury  (though no large musical acts, though they do have a lot of big djs).

friends went last year to burning man, and they say its one of the best experiences of their lives

  16. I am a huge moz fan, but not sure would enjoy him at a festival, not his crowd or surroundings

I'm hoping he plays Scotland later in the year, and this time not the Hydro in Glasgow ....would be great to see him back at the barras or 02 academy

  17. A few things that spring to mind:

Scott of the Antarctic on expedition

    The 2 sniffer dogs

Matt Richardson in cabaret tent (first time I've ever went and saw some comedy at a festival)

Acts in the secret piano bar

Exhibits / art installations in Shangri la. (Wemt during the day and had chance to really have a look , some very interesting pieces

Great graffiti on back of bus at the unfair ground

'If it wasn't for those who have fought and bled before us, there wouldn't be the freedom to celebrate today'

    '

That image / wording definitely stuck in my head .

  18. Interesting reading through the lists, especially when you see bands that you made decision to skip and go for differnt option .... Suede & SFA, both bands I was really close to going too but other things came up.

Anyway my top 5 musical moments were:

Luke Howard , NYC Downlow, Monday morning, closing set, music and atmosphere in the place was so good.

Belle & Sebastian , the evolution of Stuart Murdoch to being the disco dancing sexy frontman from their Tigermilk days is quite something

The Who, tremendous , Townsend being typical Townsend and moaning about things, think that fired them up , although not sure if daltrey was drunk or just forgot they'd already thanked the band!.&..weird ending with daltrey a speech

George Clinton / family stone / parliament funkadelic ....just great tunes, bring back (hip hop memories for me with the recognisable samples

Burt Bacharach....incredible songwriting legacy displayed, and considering didn't play half the songs I wanted to hear, setlist was still incredible

    Honourable mentions too:

Mary j blige , Alabama shakes, Motörhead (poor Lemmy, not sure he will make Xmas to be honest , still a rock legend though! Lionel, and a band I saw in the scented parlour (I'm sure that was the name of the second room in the rabbit hole) were like a gypsy swing techno band with female singer (compere in there was excellent as well)

Most surprised by: not my music, but Rudimental flung everything into their show, seemed made up to be there (in fairness I was stuffing my face eating a pie & chips after coming from Jamie XX (very good, although shit crowd full of ketamine halfhearted dancing to the music) , but Rudimental provided an interesting backdrop to my dinner.

Worst thing. Idris Elba dj set, fucking terrible music, EDM bullshit version of California love being one of the worst crimes I heard him play.

  19. Had hiking boots on the fulltime whilst in the festival (was tempted with wellies on the Sunday morning after sleeping through the rain that morning & guessing how the site was, but decided site was going to dry out, so proved a good decision)

Whilst at the camper van, just had trainers on / flip flops, socks off, would have baby wipes to clean feet at night and on couple occasions used Savlon (did a lot of walking and feet were marking up), had shower in camper so after shower would have talcum powder on feet before fresh socks and back into hiking boots (goretex salomon ones)

Would still always take wellies just in case the mud was constant and overwhelming boots though

  20. The volume was definitely much louder for Groove Armada and 2manydjs who were on before. Both excellent by the way. Groove Armada were dropping pounders all over the place and Underworld's Rez into Blur's Girls n Boys by 2manydjs? Shit son. Would love a bootleg of those sets.

I guess I just went at the wrong time...did pass by when 2manydjs were on and it did sound louder, but have seen them numerous times, and its a bit samey, ended up going up the ribbon tower for a look round the site, then back down to arcadia for altern 8.

  21. thought the venue should have its own thread.  (Edit: apologies, what a dick i am not spelling it correctly in the thread title!!!..oh well...NYC Downlow people...forgive me...I did buy a t-0shirt and some badges)

I take my hat off to all those involved, the djs, performers behind the NYC Downlow, fantastic job , the music, atmosphere in the place is terrific, definitely one of the best venues in Glastonbury in my opinion.

on my previous visit to glastonbury I never made it inside, the queues always seemed too big, and on my first visit I wanted to zoom around an try and see as much as possible, so on this second trip I had much more time to give to this place.

im a big fan of the horse meat disco guys (I love classic disco / house), seen them dj at various places in Scotland / uk, and have been down to the eagle in london to check them out on home turf as well, but the production / showmanship really come across in the downlow...my thought was ...how can anyone not be smiling or having a fucking great time in that place, tremendous disco / house music, and onstage performances...unreal!.

I was in on the sunday morning whilst dungeon meat were on, stayed til it finished, and was in again on the Monday morning  (with the aid of my moustache to get quick access) joe claussell then luke howard from HMD...excellent sets, and on the Monday morning, they mustve had about 20 dancers onstage and were really going for it for the closing.

kudos to the NYC Downlow team for creating the place, and making it the all out (disco) party venue it is.
