Steve Mason for me..A perfect antidote to the Rain outside...Also an honourable mention o Margo Price, who was new to me but thoroughly enjoyable.
-
Got back on sunday evening after another excellent weekend. So lucky, this marvellous festival is 40 minutes from my back door.
GOOD...
Fever Tree bar
Games area (despite my lad going for a death or glory shot on the table tennis and hitting a small child on the chops with the ball…If it was your child then i apologise again…)
Margo Price
Broken Social Scene
Bat For Lashes (plumped for them having seen Ezra many times and quite glad i did. Excellent show.)
Steve Mason. Set of the weekend for me. Euphoric.
Devendra Banhart… I mean, how chilled out can one man be.
Cafe Dish. I am not vegan, or needing Gluten Free, but good coffee, cake and tea, sensibly priced, and served with a smile makes this a regular pit stop.
BAD...
Weather (obviously) although not bad enough to ruin the weekend, it was a surprise as this was the first serious rain in 5 years of attending.
Animal Collective. Maybe an age thing, but that was possibly the worst headliner i have ever seen at a festival. I lasted about 30 minutes, and that was on the basis that it must improve. Hey ho, music is about opinions but not my bag at all...
Tipi tent entry system. As has already been stated, there doesn't seem to be any correlation between people leaving and people going in. How can you attend a gig in a venue where you can't take a leak?
Missing Wild Beasts secret set.
On the whole a good weekend, but possibly looking for a bit more from the top end of the bands next time? The thing i love about this festival is that it caters for all tastes, but it has drifted away a bit from the Folky/ Americana styles so, on a selfish note, some more of that would be welcome.
Will add more thoughts as my mind becomes less fuzzy.

@Blannyboy Perhaps a bit too "novelty" for EOTR? We came dangerously close with King BBQ and the Biscuit Boys (or whatever their name was)!
King Khan??

Trolley. OBVIOUSLY dont overload it, but we found it quite a useful little bit of kit...

Recommend a couple of things;
Certainly some hard ground tent pegs, as the ground is very stoney indeed. Also, we bought a couple of "Festival trolleys" from Tesco a couple of years ago. They fold flat and are of the Sack Truck style, but make shifting gear so much easier. Think they still do them, and normally in a sale at this time of year.

Always try and get down to the comedy stage for Robin Ince and his book club on a saturday night...Also saw Tony Law the other year, who was quite amusing.
Who remembers this from the comedy stage late night last year....

Sad news today. Okay, possibly not music you would associate with eotr, but at 12 years old I heard Bomber on my mates stereo and first felt the hairs on my arms stand up. I appreciate many types of music now, but I still maintain there was no sight in music greater than Motörhead ripping the Arse out of Overkill. Gone but not forgotten.

A genius in a turtleneck...
-
Of course, the mighty John Shuttleworth.
-
Buffalo Tom please, also the National and a return for Midlake.
Springsteen acoustic would be dreamland!

While we are on the subject of Tame Impala, what is it with the Backlighting during there set? I was watching them through a perpetual squint. Not subtle or effective, just blinding..
-
Thats a relief...we did exactly the same. I had high hopes for Tame Impala but it was all getting a bit.."samey".
-
There were a couple from Circuital, certainly Victory dance was excellent.

Where was the Brown Leather Sofa?

Here we go then...arrived Thursday, had a wander, a warm cider and retired to bed (tired, and Broken big toe aching..).
Was worried this year about the curse of NME (10/10) but need'nt have been. Probably a bit of a younger crowd this year, but no less appreciative of the music and atmosphere. Enjoyed Ryley walker and King Khan, but the only dissappointment of the weekend for me was Tame Impala. I'm afraid i just dont get the "new" psychadelia thing, with Temples etc. After 4 songs we retired to Low on the garden stage, who were superb.
Saturday ended bit messy for some reason, possibly drink. This was a more boozy EOTR for me than usual, and saturday was the nadir. Cider, Ale, lager and a wine box. I will leave it at that...
Having said that, the final 3 acts on the Woods were as good a trio of performers as i can remember at EOTR. Unthanks were sublime, My Morning Jacket were perfect, and Sufjan was something i have waited a long time to see and he didnt disappoint. Ended the evening with Robin Ince and Charlotte Church (yes...Charlotte Church) at the comedy stage.
Sunday was a beautiful day, and we had a game of croquet, took the tent down, and generally took in several bands as we strolled. Future Islands i enjoyed, and Laura Marling was excellent.
Home and hosed by 12-30am.
Thanks to Cafe Dish again for great coffee and superb Lemon palenta, and the Curry house for there 3 curry platter.
Looking forward to next year already.

On the basis that i broke my big toe last week and am hopping around on crutches, i am hoping for ridiculous amounts of sunshine and no sign of any precipitation at all. No-one likes a muddy crutch...
-
Managed to catch Frightened Rabbit at the Boat as well. Also, last year we caught Lily and Madeleine at the Piano stage which was lovely (with the incredible sleeping man in the armchair...).
-
Ezra was superb last year on the thursday night.
-
How early is "early"? We generally pack up on sunday morning, load the car, then stay on site till around midnight. That is, i suppose, one of the bonuses of living 40 minutes away. I remember last year that the site thinned out quite a lot on sunday afternoon though, with a small crowd for Wild Beasts and White Denim in the evening.
-
Heartbreak Pass by Giant Sand. A mighty fine offering.
-
Hi. Cant help on the pitches/ pegging issues, but the campervan area is well signposted. Generally arrive around 3-30pm on thursday, and join a reasonable queue but nothing too scary. Best festy around. Hope this helps.

Ezra Furman- Joiners, Soton.
As with Ricks review of Ezra, an excellent set, if a little short. The band looked tired/ wired and really rocked. The new stuff sounds excellent and it is a shame he isnt returning this year for another festival slot.

Motörhead, obviously.. A quiet sundown set on the garden stage....
Kidding..

A very good point, hadnt thought of that..

Okay...controversially... i know that closing down the site was a bit "diva" and she is most certainly the dictionary definition of musical marmite but... (wait for it..)...i actually enjoyed Joanna Newsom.
I have none of her albums, and prepared myself all weekend for hating her, but on the night and notwithstanding the demands, i enjoyed what she did. She is obviously talented, and strongly believes in what she does, and whilst i wont be rushing out to buy her back catalogue it worked for me.
There, I've said it...
