I went watching Guns N Roses last year (at leeds) as soon as pheonix had finished. When we got to the field of the main stage it was packed. As packed as i expect it was for blink-182 and libertines. However, as soon as LCD were due to come on, a lot of people left.. And as soon as they had played sweet child o mine, loads of people left.
I didn't think they were that bad, or that good, would have been better if we were closer to the stage. We were just there because we wanted someone to watch rather than go to our tents, and we knew more guns n roses songs than we did LCD or marina+the diamonds (or whoever was on in the lock up)...
A lot of people just went with the mindset that they were going to be crap, meaning that they wouldn't have enjoyed it no matter how good they were.

Foo fighters headlined in 2002 and 2005... So that suggests it's 3...

Good Charlotte.. I read somewhere that they got bottled (i think)
-
Could stereophonics headline? They seemed to paly every festival but leeds last year. I know that if they played they would probably want a sub headline spot, maybe third on the day that strokes and pulp are there... (I know nme dont like them that much as well, does that matter too much when it comes to who headlines the stage?)
-
REM, Aerosmith (although probably more likely to be rumoured next year, when they are supposedly going to have a new album) and thats about all i can think of :/
I know there is more chance of jedward headlining... But how good would it be if the Jam anounced a reunion at L+R (town called malice has just come on my ipod )
-
Beatles
Oasis
Clash
U2
Dire Straits
or from bands who are still going (i think)
U2
Coldplay

I don't see them as the same, Libertines were a band that were gonna be huge but never did and Pulp were huge but past it when they split and a lot of teens knew Libertines as it was only a few years ago but Pulp was 2 decades ago.
-
To me pulp are the same sort of booking as libertines. To have them headline would be risky, as a large proportion of the reading/leeds audience are 17/18 and won't have heard much of pulp, other than common people and maybe one or two mroe. However, their reputation will mean they draw a big crowd and if they get it right, will be one of the bands of the weekend... So they will probably be in the same position as libertines, special guests (as rexclark said )
-
Do you have to be over 18 to do them?
-
Would love to see hard-fi there. Obviiously they wouldnt headline the tent because they've been gone for ages.. but they do have a new album coming out (which has supposedly been coming out for the last two years), so there is a chance that they could play.
I really hope pigeon detectives and wombats do not headline the tent.. they are more V bands, or bands for the early main stage slots. (I wouldn't mind the kooks, but they are in the same category really). Beady eye are obviously nowhere near big enough or good enough to headline the tent.
I think it will be Manics/Crystal Castles/and someone else.. Enemy, feeder, jamie t???
And joerules.. will you please stop going "<3"

Thought I'd have a go... Don't know that many heavier bands so obviously there would be some more less-indie bands in there...
-
I think if prodigy are playing, they will be put in the tent, clashing with Muse... Thats whats happened this year when they have played festivals.. They have clashed with kasabian at V and eminem at T in the park...
I reckon/hope it will be
Strokes|Pulp
My Chemical Romance|Franz Ferdinand
Muse|Manic Street Preachers
-
Pulp and muse
Prodigy have been added as a rumour too
Linkin Park above MCR would be good, but wouldnt really mind if it was those headliners - never seen any of them, sooo...
-
Do IOW and Reading/Leeds never share headliners?? I am very reluctant to let go of the pulp headliners possibility
-
Feeder would be good, they arent as big as they were anymore, so they would probably be quite low down on the main stage.
Everyone was expecting 30STM this year, so maybe next year???
Also, id like to see (both a bit old, but oh well)...
manic street preachers (subbing)
James (unlikely, i know, but would love to see them play live)
-
Personally, I'd like to see something along the lines of...
Friday

Gaslight Anthem
One Cape - (the band at leeds on the thursday this year)
NME

----????----
Editors
Band of Horses
Hard Fi (new album must be nearly ready)
Beady Eye
Sunday
GREEN DAY
Biffy Clyro
----????----
Vampire Weekend
30 seconds to mars
Mumford and Sons
I know that some bands will almost certainly not be there.. But I wouldnt complain with that line up, filling the gaps in with bands that fill all genres...
-
1. Libertines
2. G N R
3. Pendulum/Biffy/lost prophets/mumford and sons (is that cheating )
-
Nope just turn up
Another reason why Reading is better than V.
-
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but Do you need to choose your campsite when you buy tickets tomorrow?
-
REM
(I wish)
-
I think that Blink/Libs/GnR would provide a good mixture of genres. Ive not heard much of Blink 182, but they are obviously a very big band, especially for people into pop-punk.
Libertines are one of the best indie bands, and are a band that a lot of younger people will like.
GnR are a big, ticket selling band. They are a band for the older people, and will be very popular. A lot of people will watch them just for a few songs, such as sweet child o mine, paradise city, the jungle one...
