In terms of bands making the step up, i'd say...
QOTSA
Biffy Clyro
libertines (although they could easily headline now)
the enemy (with a couple more good albums, one of them being equal in popularity of WRLA by kasabian, then i can see them being in a similar position to kasabian)
Prodigy (dont think they've headlined a major festival)
Elbow (unfortunately)
Bloc Party (but i think they would have to disappear for at least one more year)
Vaccines (far too early to tell, but i like what ive heard of them, so maybe in 2020 they might headline )
Pendulum (they need a big album first though)
It's hard to tell really because you dont know if bands will improve or not. Especially with new bands like the vaccines and Mona.
From the bands which are already headliners in their own right, but haven't headlined leeds/reading, id say the following could/will headline at some point...
Kasabian (think they're certain to headline in the next few years)
Coldplay (might not be the right band for the leeds crowd though)
REM (becomes more unlikely every year, but you never know)
The Verve (if they reform again)
U2 (probably wouldnt play anywhere but glastonbury in the uk (festival wise))
Pink Floyd (amaybe? dont really know)
ACDC and Aerosmith (might be the 'legends' one year)

They have two of our headliners subbing... MCR i can understand as they fit the R/L demograph more than oxegen/titp, but i wouldn't have said that is the case for the strokes.
Saying that, I think a strokes headline set would be a lot better than a strokes subbing set.
I'd expect a few exclusive acts as the 2nd/3rd/tent headliners to make sure that it isnt too much like titp/oxegen.
-
Brother (sort of) hinted that they are playing reading/leeds this year. Someone asked on their facebook page and they replied with ''. I'd say that Brother are better than Beady eye.. obviously neither should headline the tent as they are both new bands. But if brother (and other new bands like vaccines and mona) play, then they are probably going to be halfway down the bill in the nme tent. Just seems unfair that beady eye would probably be headliners just because they all used to be in a band which they now refuse to play songs from. (if that makes sense).
-
Aren't the headliners meant to be exclusive to Leeds/Reading? and MCR are at TITP so how does that work?
-
I think there will be a band no one has thought of subbing. Faithless maybe??
No chance of happening, but REM would be good (albeit a bit backwards with them subbing MCR).
-
I'd be happy with these headliners. Muse are a band ive wanted to see for ages. Strokes are a band I have recently started listening to. MCR I only know 4 songs (black parade, teenagers and their last 2) and from what I've heard I like them.
If you add Pulp to it, it makes the main acts seem a lot better. Elbow are the most disappointing band for me, looking at the expected headliners/subs.
Bit gutted that there is not going to be Prodigy/Chemical Brothers/Pendulum/Chase n Status, but im sure i will get over it.

I can see them getting a big crowd. But I cann also see half the crowd only being there for disco 2000 and common people...

The Killers are already confirmed to play the new Lollapalooza festival in Chile in April, with the drummer saying there were more "one-off shows" on the cards. He said that new band material was "a way off", though. -
Has that 'lol' always been underneath the title of the thread???
-
Prodigy are playing the Spanish creamfields in august, so they are playing shows..
-
I hope so. They were everywhere but Reading/Leeds last year. Elbow I only know 2 songs (and ive heard their new one as well) and the songs I have heard don't make me want to go and listen to their lesser known stuff. But it seems as though they are a popular enough live band to sub.
Would love Muse-Stereophonics though. Maybe they would be third under pulp?? But i doubt it.
Also, i think they are making another album for the end of this year, so would probably be in the studio at the time of leeds and reading.
-
I'd have liked to see chase & status, manics, primal scream, ocs, courteeners and kaiser chiefs. But the only one that I would consider a band I really want to watch are the manics (and eminem).
Hope we get Mumford & Sons, editors, beady eye, the enemy, White lies, prodigy, deadmau5, view, streets and Brandon flowers ( off the top of my head from who's not been announced), but I would expect that some of them will be announced for V at a later date...
-
http://www.nme.com/news/the-libertines/55211 They've said they have no shows scheduled for the forseeable future... So presumably this rules them out of V, titp and Glastonbury (they've been rumoured for them all I think).
-
Line up is announced at the same time as tickets go on sale (or maybe 10-15 mins before, not sure) and this will probably be mid-end of March. Last year they went on sale at 7pm, if i remember correctly. The headliners are confirmed/(or more or less confirmed) during the day through NME and people on this site.

Can you remember any setlist info? I'm seeing them in manc next thurs
-
I know they're not the most loved band, but I want stereophonics to be sub, (or maybe third).
I'd like to see Pixies, Manics, Biffy Clyro, Placebo, Smashing Pumpkins, REM, Train, Soundgarden from the top of my head. (Not sure of the popularity of some of the bands. REM may be too big for the leeds crowd, Train are probably nowhere near big enough - and probably too poppy for subbing at reading/leeds).
Realistically though it looks like it will be prodigy, pulp (both of whom would probably be the two bands i look forward to most) and elbow, who I find a bit boring, but are supposed to be good live.
-
I'm hopeful for White lies, Brandon flowers, deadmau5, ocs, vaccines, streets and manics from titp...
-
Muse -Would be very happy
Strokes - Not overly bothered, but would like to watch them
MCR - Would rather someone else, but i know a few songs, and if theres no one that interests me on in the tent, then i imagine i would quite enjoy them.
Pulp and prodigy - would be chuffed with both
Elboy - not fussed on them
I've already bought my ticket, but looking at the t in the park line up, particularly the headliner/subs, i would probably be a bit disappointed with these headliners.
-
Fires are part of the festival for me. I know why they would ban them from the sunday night, and agree that they shhould be banned on the sunday, but I dont think they should be banned completely. After the music had finished, I enjoyed sitting around the fire for a bit before going for a wander.
-
Never seen them live so I'd be excited about seeing them if they were booked. Same with prodigy, people think they've been around too much recently, but I've never seen them live either, so would be very excited about seeing them if they were at leeds.
-
Libertines only met up for rehearsals a couple of months before, didnt they? But then, that's what you expect from the libertines.
I can't see them headlining tbh. I can see the three predicted headliners, headlining.
-
I would guess at one or two of these headlining the nme...
Feeder
The Enemy
Chase & Status
Suede
Portishead (maybe?)
The xx
The offspring
Mumford and sons
The Streets
Manics (if they clash with a big headliner...)
-
Is any band really worth £1 million? Probably not, but if that's what the organisers want to pay for their big bands, then so be it.
They put on a good show, good atmosphere and made the festival part of one of the biggest music stories of the year.

I know he's been mentioned a few times, but deadmau5 is not at V or creamfields, so chances are he will be at R&L. But where would he play? Is he too big to headline the dance tent/is he big enough to headline nme??
