London's anti-racist music festival is back after three years off, and will feature Run DMC as its headline act. This festival is focusing on world music and a diverse, young audience. It's really an afternoon in the park, lasting from 12 noon till 8.30 pm, but all those festie attractions will be there, including food, crafts and a childrens play area.
There will be 4 main music areas with the Main Stage showing Run DMC, Courtney Pine, Ms Dynamite, Sam State of Bengal and Ben Onono. The World Stage will be presenting a mix of world music and dance including Ustad Shaggan. Choice FM will be running one of the stages, with DJ's and special guests and there is even going to be a comedy tent including Gina Yashere on stage.
'One in three Londoners is from a minority ethnic community. Yet racism is a poison that still blights and destroys lives across our city every day, whether through racist violence or the impact of discrimination. By playing at respect Run DMC and the other performers are showing that racism remains a key issue and that racist attitudes and behaviour must not be tolerated.' said Ken Livingstone at the launch.
