  1. Rock Werchter 2018

    https://www.reddit.com/r/arcticmonkeys/comments/7pnjx6/you_guys_might_want_to_check_the_bands_instagram/ Arctic Monkeys on friday
  2. Rock Werchter 2018

The Prodigy and Justice are playing a festival in the Netherlands that takes place from 6-8 July. It's only a 1,5 hour ride to Werchter from there.
  3. Mad Cool 2018

TEN is the name of Peal Jams debut album and also the name of their official fan club so it's either an obvious hint or the biggest troll ever by a festival organization.

Rock in Rio also has an announcement tomorrow: Could be The Killers
  5. Rock Werchter 2018

Well, that escalated quickly. I just wanted to show that there are different ways to look at headline positions as I mentioned popularity, genre, relevance, live reputation, artistic value and many others. I want to apologize for all the downvoters and lighthouse in particular. I never wanted to 'rank' acts, I thought I was very careful by only including potential Werchter headliners and not acts like Miley Cyrus or Dua Lipa as lighthouse mentioned. I just wanted to bring a different view. Again, I'm sorry if this makes it look like just a popularity contest.

I see a lot of discussion here about which acts could be qualified as (sub)headliners at Rock Werchter. Of course this is determined by various factors such as genre, relevance, live reputation, artistic value, but also of course how popular an act is. I decided to take a look at the popularity of the most mentioned acts in this thread by looking at the number of monthly listeners on Spotify. Here is the list: The Killers 10,9m Metallica 9,3m Arctic Monkeys 8,5m Gorillaz 7,1m Florence & The Machine 6,2m Pearl Jam 5,6m The xx 4,8m Snow Patrol 4,8m Thirty Seconds To Mars 4,3m Queens Of The Stone Age 4m The National 2,8m Kasabian 2,5m Volbeat 2,2m Massive Attack 1,8m LCD Soundsystem 1,8m The Prodigy 1,5m Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds 1,3m Björk 1,1m To start, there are some comments/shortcomings about this kind of measurement. The most important one is that these are worldwide statistics which are not represent for the Werchter public. The second one is that some of the numbers are inflated due to the fact that some artists have released an album this year (The Killers, Gorillaz) which attracts more curious listeners. Still, I think it’s interesting to look at these numbers because there are some trends visible. Arctic Monkeys and Pearl Jam both haven’t released a studio album since 2013, still they are among the most popular acts in this list. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds is at the bottom of this list while Rock Werchter presented them as one of the top acts. This correspondents with the opinions in this thread which makes them more appreciated for their artistic value and live reputation.

Were the other coordinates city specific or just state? Bruce and Bon Jovi are both from other cities within the state New Jersey. Biggest band from Jersey City is My Chemical Romance but I doubt they will let a festival announce their comeback.
  8. Mad Cool 2018

Depeche Mode did NOS Alive last year so they (and MC too?) will have another one this year.

100,000sqm, 80,000-capacity? I went to this years edition which was also too crowded. There was practically no space to sit or relax anywhere and there was a constant stream of people to and from the food stands and toilets which were all centralised near the entrance/exit.

Does anyone know what 'Performance INFACT' is? It's on the time schedule everyday for 30 mins before the headliner.

I'm still wondering what happened with the last act that is still TBA, it has been over 2 weeks now. I think the only two reasons could be that it is an act that has not announced their European tour yet and is holding back the announcement. Other reason could be that it is an act that changed their touring plans such as Jimmy Eat World that is now touring in the US in July and they will have to find a replacement for that. On twitter they are answering people that they will announce as soon as they can which could imply that they can't announce yet due to contractual reasons.

For everyone that hasn't bought tickets yet, this is the moment!
  13. Mad Cool 2017

The 4th one is not coming today they said on twitter. It better be a big one. I guess it is either a name that hasn't been announced yet for any festival this summer or a name that is already playing another Spanish festival. I can't think of any other reason to postpone the announcement.
  14. Mad Cool 2017

So 3/4 of the names already known, hopefully one big name that they are keeping secret for tomorrow. So far, Trentemoller is a nice late night act but nothing special. Peter, Björn and John and M.I.A are one hit wonders for me. Don't think anyone expected these acts, as far as I can see it's the first date for the last 2 acts so probs for that.

Quite surprised they announced Foals since they are quite a big name at Benicassim already. Why not also grab The xx and Royal Blood since they started stealing acts from other Spanish festivals . Can't say I'm really disappointed with the new additions, but I guess we all hoped to have a few more big names after we discussed the bands that are touring. The fact that they are holding back 4 names for 20th Feb makes me positive. If it were just some filler acts or Spanish bands they could have announced them today already so I assume/hope it will be a couple of international bangers to generate attention and boost the ticket sales for the last time.
