Merthyr Rising Festival is a music, arts and ideas festival that celebrates working class culture and resistance at the birthplace of the red flag, Merthyr Tydfil, Wales over the weekend of Friday 25th to Sunday 27th May 2018.

The festival takes place during the anniversary of one of the very first organised uprisings by workers in 1831 known as the Merthyr Rising, which was the violent climax to many years of simmering unrest among the large working class population of Merthyr Tydfil where it is believed that for the first time the red flag of revolution was flown as a symbol of workers' revolt. Today it's celebrated annually with a cultural festival of music, arts, political discussion and ideas during the anniversary of the events of 1831.

And to this end there's a music line-up with headliners of Dreadzone, Roland Gift, and The Alarm, along with others including The Blockheads, Ruts DC, Captain Ska, Beans on Toast, Eva Lazarus, Florence Black, Afro Cluster, Regime, and The Roughneck Riot.

The other confirmed acts are Cynthia McKinney, Patrick Henningsen, Joe Kelly, Foreign Legion, The Moon Birds, Robb Johnson, Local Enemy, Chapel Row, Tracy Island, Upbeat Sneakers, The Sunsets, Vanessa Beeley, The Red Poets, Kids Rave with DJ Barsi, Ffug, Bryony Sier, Zefur Wolves, Jack Mason, AVA, Chris King, Gareth Hopkins (DJ Set), Al Moses, The HomeGrown. For all of the details including day & stage splits please see the line-up page.
